xxpiperwright:
“Make no mistake, Mr. Ward. I’m not your anything.” Piper paused for a moment, then felt it fit to add. “And that’s Dr. Wright to you.” She took a moment to watch after the young wolf, eyes following him until he had disappeared completely into the crowd. Then her attention was drawn back to the blood hungry guard, eyebrow lifting slightly, incredulity painted over her features.
“We’re not on a first name basis, Mr. Ward.” She pointed out, eyes narrowing just a touch before she pressed on, arms folding across her chest carefully. “Conversations don’t usually involve one half of them looking for all the world like they’re about to piss themselves.” She added after a moment. Eyes rolled just a touch, and her head shook sightly. “I think I might rather die. If you’re so desperate for release, perhaps you should look into buying a blow up doll. I don’t imagine any actual woman would want you touching them.”
So bold this man was, and Piper could only allow her jaw to set into a firm line. “I believe, Mr. Ward, that if I were to follow you back to your quarters, the results would be quite different from what you’re imagining.” A pause, and Piper took a rather bold step forward. “I would take that pretty knife of yours and show you what I learned in anatomy 302.” Her hand lifted, and she pressed a finger very deliberately against his chest before dragging it down slowly, stopping just below his belly button. “Cut you from sternum to groin and find out what you have in place of a heart. Which would truly be a public service to the citizens of Blackbriar, I think.” Her hand pulled away again, and she replaced the distance between them again.
Liam couldn’t help how his smile grew. It was inappropriate, but he liked to press the good doctor’s buttons. He lifted his arms in a half-ass surrender attempt. “My mistake.” He turned too to see the direction where Charlie had vanished into. A punchbag for later no doubt. Unless the kid figured out how to dodged being caught. Ward wasn’t the only bloodhungry guard that wandered the premises.
“Oh, we aren’t? We’ve only been coworkers for around..” He whistled as he feigned trying to count the number in his head - he knew it already though. It’s hard to forget how long you’ve been stuck in a playground that lead only to benefit him in his mind. After all, if the ran out of wolves, what did that leave? It would be like the war all over again.
“Really?” Liam’s tone had an aggressive hitch to it. “Tell me doctor. When you’re conducting your experiments are they mostly pretty upbeat and positive? Hm? Poking a wolf and it what? Doesn’t shit himself at the size of the needle you use on them? What about a knife when there’s an incission in the lab?” Liam retorted with a slow shrug of his shoulders. “They’re always scared shitless of us. Doesn’t mean I was terrorizing them.”
“Oh no. A blowup doll doesn’t make any noise, besides if I want to do my due diligence I wouldn’t be able to there. I’m sure as hell not going to fuck any of them, am I?” She knew of course what he meant. He would never stoop so low to hook up with a wolf - at least that’s the image he had portrayed with surpising accuracy.
“You think me simple minded.” Liam offered and watched closely as she took a step forward. There was no wince or cringe as he listened to her go on. He tilts his head slightly and purses his lips at the thought. “Now that sounds like good fun. Now...I’ll take that as a promise. Once you make the initial cut here near the aorta.” He moved his hand where hers had been on his chest near his sternum. “I’ll put a bullet in your taint and watch you operate on yourself to take it out even if I’m bleeding out or already dead from cardiac arrest. Only fair.” Liam took a step forward to her, and removed the knife from inside his cameo jacket. Holding the weapon handle first towards her. “We going to start this now or not? I have a job to do.”
“Now children, before I let you go for the day, what must we remember?”
A chorus of small voices rang throughout the small room. “We will not be silenced. We will reclaim our heritage. We cannot lose who we are.”
Noel grinned, their heart blossoming with pride. Some of these pups’ parents may disagree with them, but Noel would make sure the younger generation had what it takes to overthrow their captors. They would make sure the children knew their rightful place, that when push came to shove, they wouldn’t find themselves unprepared for the fight at hand. So many of the wolves here were soft, some even creating friendships with their captors, their torturers. It was disgusting.
“You may go, I’ll see you all next week. Enjoy the bonfire!”
The bonfire. A silly thing organized by the softest among them, the Hearts, but even Noel could recognize the need to let loose every once in a while. Not to mention the fact that most community events that shoved all the packs together usually demanded at least one all out brawl. Noel wouldn’t miss it for the world. Maybe if they were lucky, they could convince a few more wolves to reach out and grab what was rightfully theirs and they could all get the hell out of here.
Noel hadn’t been in Blackbriar long, as they were often reminded, but that didn’t mean all hope was lost. It didn’t mean that they had to lie down an accept their fate to die in here, an experiment, a monster.
No, Noel would not go down like that. Even if it was just their own pack that had their back, Noel would find a way out of here and rip out anyone’s throat who stepped in their path.
Daydreams of ripping bloody sinew from faceless guards’ faces flooded Noel’s mind, distracting them from the bodies crossing their path.
“Excuse me, I guess I should watch where I’m going.” Sarcasm dripped on their words, but Noel had resolved to try to be less confrontational. For one night, at the very least.
The newer ones always had a false sense of hope and pride. It was one his favourite pasttimes to help remind them that they were all freaks of nature. They of course didn’t know that automatically defaulted them to be his playtoys and muses to his torture methods. Liam had been demoted to take care of the populace of puppies in Blackbriar. He wouldn’t forget what war looked like when he saw it in front of him. This place? Was far from the war he saw. Though he often toyed with the thought of fuses to build a bomb. That would take one of the mutt’s lives too quickly though and that wouldn’t be fun to him.
A body was a puzzle to Liam, especially an animal body. It just needed him to take the pieces apart one by one. He hadn’t looked lower or else he might have noticed how close he was to them. The guard didn’t make the first comment to the mutt, no. Instead he sneered down to Noel with a brief nod. “You should. Watch where you’re going.” Liam shot back in an aggigated low tone, and his eyes narrowed down to them intently. “Trying to..escape.. are you?” They weren’t, but really who around them was going to tell a single soul?
To be certain he did a scan of the room, before his apathetic eyes swooped to challenge theirs.

Time was like this goddamn sunset taking forever to set so he could really get into something to satisfy his violence urges. One of his hands ruffles his hair as he stared out from his post at the mutts acting like fools. Seriously, he could probably convince one to go wander themselves into the lake and drown. That would be one of the more favorable moments of the night. He had already cast a few threatening ‘give me a reason, motherfucker’ looks at the other wolves. Most of them had scattered except one, so he leaned against a tree and placed the cold beer on his knuckles savouring the numb coolness it brought.
Liam paused when there was movement out of the corner of his eye. Using his militant reflexes he didn’t wince as his hand quickly unhoisted the gun and aimed it in the direction. Then he saw who the other figure was and placed it back, moving the cold beer back over his reddened knuckles.
“What if we start a new count at this party?” He drawed out as if they had already been having some sort of conversation, but they hadn’t. “Who’s going to miss the lot of these bitches anyway? Organs can be experimented on too.” A smug smirk crosses his lips as he shrugs his shoulders with indifference and slumps against the trunk of the tree.

Piper have been trying to avoid the man from the moment she had spotted him. Though she tried so desperately to see the good in people, Piper couldn’t find a single good thing about Liam Ward, except perhaps his jawline. Even then, she fantasized about punching it so hard that it went crooked. The man was tedious, and frustrating, and besides all of that… he was cruel. Piper wasn’t foolish enough not to spot that from a mile away.
She had tried, oh so hard, to slip away from him, and yet when she saw the look on the face of the young wolf he was speaking to, Piper couldn’t, in good conscious, leave it be. She approached slowly, noticed the young wolf (Charlie, she was pretty sure) dart his eyes toward her, and she offered a soft smile and a nod before her face fell, into a hard line, and she cleared her throat.
“Mr. Ward.” Her eyes darted to the young wolf again, and her face softened. A flick of her head, back toward the rest of the party, where she could hear a very rough version of ‘Genie In A Bottle’ coming from karaoke. “Go on.” And her attention was on the guard once more, eyes narrowing slightly as she stepped closer, arms folded over her chest. She hated that she had to tilt her chin up to look at his face, but she kept her back straight, kept her head high. Made it a point to show that she was not as afraid of him as some of the wolves (and even some of the other humans) at Blackbriar. “How many times am I going to have to scold you for terrorizing people, Mr. Ward?”
Piper would come around someday. If not, who knew, maybe he would get the taste in his bones to cut up humans into little pieces. Sure he had been talking a bit rough to Charlie but it was rather mild than he normally did. Liam wanted to see how far he could get with his veiled threats until the kid shit their pants. However that was all short lived as the blonde scientist approached them. At the mention of his name he gave Charlie one last glare before his gaze turned blank towards Piper.
“Yes, My miss Wright?” He didn’t grin because everyone was still alive here, but the amusement did lift his gaze. He watched as the mutt scattered away. Oh the mutt would pay for this later. He didn’t even have blood on his knuckles yet. All his bullets were still in place. His knife still partly stained with blood from a stab earlier in the week.
He looked down to her and didn’t make a move to lower himself even remotely to her level. He could tell she was feeling righteousness in this minute, but he wasn’t going to admit to his plots for the night. Liam at times saw Piper as a hypocrite, but there was something about it that almost maddened him with desire. Maybe it was because she was the only female not-bitch in this place and a challenge to him.
Liam’s nostrils flared before he answered pointedly, “We were having a conversation, Piper. But hm, maybe I should do that more often considering that’s the way to get you to come to me.” He turned his head briefly with a large grin. Then locked eyes with her, “I mean to think you could save this whole entire bonfire from the terrorizing Ward if you would just follow me back to my quarters. Feel like being a vigilante tonight, Ms. Wright?”
Milo was quite familiar with the lake, its defenses, and its weaknesses so he didn’t necessarily need to take a lap and case everything out but, well, it kept him moving and made him a less likely target for the more sociable and foolish wolves who didn’t yet know to leave him be. Shoving his hands in his pockets, he rummaged for the small box, glanced around to make sure Cas hadn’t moved or been found by Trouble yet before lighting up with a soft sigh. It was a party night after all, so he was affording himself this one indulgence, although - could it be considered that if it was necessary to prevent his short-fuse from igniting after exposure to one too many drunken idiots?
Maybe he’d let himself have two.
Smirking slightly at the thought, he looked away from Cas and the small throng of people around him to focus on the area around him. He carefully maneuvered around and away from the largest crowds and attempted to avoid eye contact with the couples and losers on the fringes. The vindictive side of him was pretty sure Cas forced him to attend events like this precisely because he knew how much Milo hated them but there’d be time enough to get revenge later. For now, things were quiet and he had several egress routes mapped out by the time he was approaching his pack again.
Only, there was a human shaped barrier between them and him and Milo wasn’t in the mood for this (never would be) but he still raised one thin eyebrow. “You have my attention, what?” Gods willing, they’d move on without saying anyone else because Milo was not here to play drunk fairy godmother or act as a breathing stuffed animal to snot and cry on or worse - make small talk. In fact, the hosts of this whole stupid thing would be far better at it and he went to look for one before his attention was reeled back in.
The mutts thought they were doing what exactly? Free for the night? Free from their pointless lives? Liam had continued to do his rounds, more so because it was easier to lure mutts away without much thought. They could drunkenly walk into the line of his gun multiple times. Hell, he was getting on the road of boredom and that would amuse him for a little bit. Bring some presents to Piper of dismembered parts and blame the newest shipment from the higher ranks. Only a few pups had bothered to run away or slip away into whatever this fucking Pound Puppy Party was. Out of his grasp because of whom had been around them.
The darker it got the more he felt the uncommon giddiness for violence rustle in the pit of his stomach. Besides he was behind on his numeral count on victims, at least compared to the other guards. That could be because he liked to play with his victims, watch the fear in their eyes as he exterminated them one by one. He just had to keep on the top person’s good grace, and he wasn’t going anywhere. That person he had silently decided had to be above Piper.
The predator had a new pup target in his sight for the night. Milo and his trying to be inconspicuous light up. Maybe pistol whip the pug-faced stout on his face would make his night better. Liam felt the internal itch drum across his knuckles as he let out a sigh of his own. Hand lowered to his holster as he eyed the other without shrinking or cringing in any aspect.
“Do you think you’re above the common laws around here?” The guard’s gruff voice asked, because in his mind he could play with this conversation part all he wanted to later. For now, he was content in envisioning the blood across the face of the pup in front of him.
Which dog do you want to put down the most?
“All dogs look the same to me. So many to put down, so little time.”

William “Liam” Ward || 37 || He/Him Guard
THE STORY SO FAR
Liam was a bright child, and that alone caused his parents to turn a blind eye to him. He would often hold a magnifying glass to burn the ants on the ground. A sick mesmerized smile across his lips. This smile never changed. His toys just got bigger in comparison. He was never allowed to own pets, because something would end up going horribly wrong. His mother caught on to his sociopath tendencies and how he would mimic other children’s emotions when he was younger. At the age of thirteen his mother had left him in the care of his father whom was a military man. His father had assumed what he needed to straighten his ‘questionable’ hobbies was the military itself. He was sent to two military camps before he was eighteen and could enroll in the military himself after high school.
His father hadn’t realized that this would help his brain mimic the soldiers around him. Part of him respected the sergeants, but he had a new goal to become one himself. It would be easy enough he had thought when he was shipped off to the Middle East to fight a war, and when he came back the aggression, he could make excuses for. He wasn’t this way before, he’d say. Liam’s father never corrected him as he was sent back for two other tours in the middle east receiving funds to wire the bombs. Besides he could torture and kill any enemy animal he wanted to. This all changed when he got promoted to master sergeant only to be told about a place called Blackbriar.
Liam was then sent to Blackbriar as a guard with his orders in his ear. More importantly he saw a challenge and a play field. The werewolves couldn’t leave, and he had the right to be there. Hell the government had sent him there to play. At first he was miffed that he would be sent to somewhere local instead of fighting overseas. But with the aspects of werewolves and a new toy that just sat there for him to dissect or play a game of murder. There’s plenty of excuses he had for his actions. They got out of hand, they tried to leave, any excuse he had at his side he would use to benefit himself. If he was stuck in Blackbriar he would make sure to make it worth his while.
There have been few instances while he has been in Blackbriar of his sadistic behavior. It had started with small unnoticeable things that wouldn’t be known. Shocking rats for example, but now he has his sights set on the test subjects at hand. Surely the scientists aren’t the only ones that could have fun with them right? Liam has lived in Blackbriar for the past eight years, and now he’s getting restless for his next kill.
