I recreated an image of myself digitally from my theory sketchbook, taking inspiration from the production workshop I had done using different densities of dots to make lighter and darker tones.
For my final after effects workshop I created a presentation using all the tools I had learnt and showing them in a fluid and unique manner, using transitions and editing to make each clip move into the next seemlessly including adding and keeping to the music.
For my second brief I took some inspiration from one of my production lessons, using card templates and paint to create very fluid imagery which is exactly what I needed for this project about an inner self.
This was the video for my first try at 3D animation in after effects, A cool tool for adding more depth to vectors and something I’m very glad I learned about.
I recalled a similar project from college to the bottle animation workshop, I used a very similar program to cinema 4D and got some pretty identical results. I also disliked this project for lack of creative freedom but it’s at least an example of the uses of this program and others like it.
In this animation lecture I was tasked with creating a 3D animation in after effects, something I had never done before. By creating building vectors and putting them on circular shapes I could use multiple to make a simple cityscape pan animation. I could then use the camera to navigate the z space of the composition instead of just the x and y.
The final animation at the end of the hand drawn animation workshop, I thought it achieved what I wanted to do nicely but I would also like to come back and add more features.
For this animation lesson I was tasked with creating something by hand and transferring that onto a digital platform to animate, I chose to draw an amalgam of facial features and then throw them all into one animation to create something surrealist. I took the sketches I drew and transferred them to photoshop to create transparent versions to use in animation.
In the last workshop for cinema 4D I actually didn’t use the program, instead learning about different forms of presentation and how to correctly retouch work and create industry standard pdf’s. I learnt a lot more about retouching on Photoshop, especially photos which will help me greatly in presenting the rest of my work better. I also learnt some new tools for indesign like creating thumbnails for videos and having a master copy page which are both very useful to me.
After getting home I split the mask into different sections instead of just one block, creating something a lot more visually interesting.
For this after effects workshop I had to learn how to use rotoscoping, first of all using the roto-brush tool to draw around myself and then go through every frame and edit the image to keep in line with the video. This was extremely time consuming and I was not able to finish in lesson but I would love to keep working on this project.
I used the fill effect on the rotoscoped image to get a flat colour onto the shape of me.
In this after effect workshop each member of the class was given an info snippet and together we would all combine to make a collage of facts about the university, I tried my hardest to make a smooth and stylish design while keeping it simple and easy to take in in the small amount of time I had.
I created a compilation video combigning all the different transition techniques I had learnt during this workshop, I look forward to using transitions like these in future work.
I was very interested in this after effects workshop creating transition slides, this screenshot collection shows how I was taught to use coding to make some aspects of working in after effect quicker, it was useful information but a bit too complex to keep having to remember for me.
I would really like to continue working on this sort of work as I think it would be very useful to me as well as being very fun.
The second part of the cinema 4d workshop editing videos together, once again I prefer after effect or premiere pro for this work and probably will not be using this technique.
In this workshop I was made to transfer imagery from various places into a slideshow using some creative editing available on cinema 4d, I once again tried to make it more interesting to me personally but I would rather use after effects for this work.
I thought this was the worst workshop I’d been to, it was very mundane and not something I wanted to persue at all. I was taught to create some cans with a created design on them which reminded me of my high school experience with graphic design. Product design is something I have absolutely no interest in. I did an entire sports drink project in college using a similar program and I can safely say no thank you.
