Sat across from him, her legs cross. The length of skin shows from the miniskirt that crawled up her thigh, but the brunette seemed to not pay the scandalous display of skin any heed. She leans back, resting her arms underneath her chest as golden irises narrow at his threat.

“ I gain nothing from playing you as a fool. We are not barbarians anymore. ” As in, there will be consequences should harm come. But for a woman of her status, a smile tends to be sharper than any blade she could pull. “ Yet, I speak the truth - and so often, nothing but the truth. ” A hand is thrown up to the air, open handed to the ceiling. Careless, almost lazy, even.

“ I am his sister - I do offer some influence to his behavior, I agree to that much. But he is bullheaded on matters that he feels particularly... ” She pauses. Her lips curl upward, revealing a line of teeth. Mocking. “ passionate about. ” As if the wounds for a near millennia ago didn’t still cause an itch under her skin that she was desperate to ignore. The hands on her flesh that left imprints that she tried to scrub away in the bath, long after the flesh there had healed. Leaving no scar, no mortal reminder. No sign of the cruelty forced upon her.

〚 ❀ 〛Xiang continues to pull them through the aged and ornate hallway, their path illuminated by the golden gleam of the dimmed chandelier lights that lined the ceiling in a neat row. His eyes scanned the different rooms, attempting to find one of the washrooms. He wordlessly pulls his sister into the first one he finds, and finally lets her go as soon as they were in front of a mirror. 

Xiang scoffs at even how adorned the washroom was; he was always one for wealth, but this place completely reeked of obnoxious self-indulgence. He grabs one of the crisp white hand towels that were neatly folded on the corner of the marbled counter and begins furiously wiping at his face. 

“Let them be angry. They won’t remember by tomorrow morning anyway.” He finally replies to her. Apart of him only hoped his words were true. “You’re going to help me get this off, and then we’re both leaving this things altogether.” His eyes trailed around the room, the tack design leaving a bad taste in his mouth. “I feel like I’ll go crazy being here any longer.” 

Watching him scrub furiously at the mark, witnessing it smudge further makes her stifle a chuckle. “ Yeah, yeah, ” she answers with a tender acknowledgement that makes her step closer, taking the towel from his hands, “ It’s easier to get it off with hot water. ”

Describing so and demonstrating, she grips his chin with one hand. “ Don’t squirm, it’ll spread more. ” A gentle warning as she gets to work, wiping off the smudging on his skin and cleaning away the ruby tint that was added to his face. In fact, it reminded her a bit of a blush. It was adorable and it occurred to her to tease him with smudging her lipstick on his features once again.

After thoroughly cleaning off his face, she resigns herself to patting his head to praise him. It was the least she can do, considering he was mostly behaved today. “ You’ve earned a late night snack when we leave. How does wantan sound ? My treat. ” Something that was homie enough, but easy to make in a pinch.

〚 ❀ 〛 “Hey!” 

Xiang squirms as his sister’s lips smothered his cheeks, leaving a bright red stain upon his skin. His embarrassed face flushes into a color to match Lee Mei’s lipstick as he attempted to even process what had just happened. 

He shoots her a glare, pouting like a child. “I didn’t need you to do that.” He mutters, running his finger against his cheek and examining the residue. “This will take forever to get off…” Xiang looks into Lee Mei’s eyes and sees the warm yet mischievous gleam, knowing exactly what she planned. 

He frowns, looking at his finger, than to Lee Mei. He then grabs her hand, squeezing it. “Well, I’m not leaving you here with them.” He says, tilting his head towards the ballroom, the echoes of laughter and political discussions that fell far out of Xiang’s jurisdictions to begin. “You’re coming with me. I wouldn’t be able to sleep knowing I left you here.” He says, a small devilish grin growing on his face as he pulled Lee Mei towards the door.

For a moment she was smug, yet that smugness quickly gave way when he made the decision already that she was going to be taken away from their civic duty. The elder sibling raises a complaint -- her voice an octave higher but in the same tone. She was fully intent on staying and entertaining the two-hundred some guests on her own.

“Hey!”

But she doesn’t stop him nor fight. Instead, it’s surprisingly comforting to be reminded that Xiang worries about her (and with good reason.) He’s as protective as ever, despite knowing well she was not so easily flattered by a few sleazy drunks. She catches a glint of a devilish smile from over his shoulder. They’ll get into so much trouble - yes, but honestly it wasn’t any worse or better if they were still the most sober people in a room.

Out in the hallway, the doors shut with a pleasant click - sealing off the chatter and limiting it to a mere muffle of sound with the occasional loud laugh breaking through the noise. Speaking to Xiang’s back, she pouts. “That was for you to slip out. Not for us. They’ll have our heads later.”

〚 ❀ 〛 “Will it? The way these old men talk, I doubt it.” Xiang’s voice carries a tone of heavy irritation as he frowns. “They’ll keep going ‘till they succumb to alcohol poisoning.” 

He looked to Lee Mei, almost with envy. No matter the situation, she always managed to make herself appear charming and present. Xiang certainly preferred to look decent out in public, however he felt his motivation slip when it came to anything regarding political matters– He would find himself dressing akin to an early college student late to his first day of class. 

Xiang notices a strand of hair sticking out from his sister’s neatly kept hair, and automatically reaches to fix it. 

“Honestly, I’d do anything to just stay back here for the rest of the night. The farther I am from any of them, the better.” His frown seemed to become more of a pout as he spoke, brushing Lee Mei’s hair with his hand. 

“ That’d be a problem if they did, ” comes her reply, poorly lacing the amusement that tinted her voice. Of course she would like to see that, she thought, dropping her hands to straighten the suit’s jacket. Would it be feasible ? No. Power vacuums were dangerous.

The hand that gently fixed her hair was welcomed, though she failed to allow herself to show the slightest jubilation at it. Instead Lee Mei giggles lightly at his next complaint. It wasn’t as if neither city were introverted and reserved, but she was more comfortable in a performative existence for political balls.

“ You know that’s a bad idea, too, ” she says thoughtfully before grasping either of his shoulders and leaning forward to press a closed mouth, but firm kiss to each cheek. A ruby mark was left in it’s wake, an imprint of her lips. A mischievous grin stretches across her face, pleased with the lacquer tattoo. “ Oh, you best clean that off then ? Wouldn’t want it to stain and cause a bigger mess. ” Take this opportunity to slip away, said honey-warmed eyes. I can vouch for you.

〚 ❀ 〛 “Stop doting on me.” 

Xiang lightly hit his sister’s hands away from him as he fixed his own tie. The two regions had been obligated invited to attend a fanciful banquet  amongst their highest politicians, and Xiang found himself despising every moment of it. Being around what he believed the world’s most greedy humans was not exactly the way he wished to spend his Friday night. 

He looked to Lee Mei, his beautiful sister who insisted on helping him tidy up at a mirror in the back room of the Hall. He admittedly didn’t put as much… effort into his own look tonight, much to the chagrin of his superiors, but he certainly couldn’t care less in a situation such as this. 

“Focus on yourself. Fix your lipstick or something.” Not that there was anything wrong with it. He just wanted her off of him. 

The older woman spares a laugh as she presses a tender hand on his head, not even sparing his edged words any heed. She smooths his hair before her hands move to brush a speck of dirt on his suit.

“I get it, you don’t want to be here.” Her voice is even, acknowledging the absolute disinterest in her behavior and at the banquet at large. Lee Mei would have scolded him for his mildly disheveled suit, yet instead just wordlessly began finicking with the things that bothered her. “Just deal with it for a little longer, it’ll be over before you know it.”

Unfortunately, they were obligated to stay until they were dismissed by their respective leaders. That means to continue being the outwardly perfect that they were never. “My lipstick’s fine. If you want, I can smudge some on you just so you can go wash it off.” She jokes, gingerly using her pinkie finger to scratch some of the red coloring on her lips to clean up the line.

Comes her answer as she continues to squirm and writhe with his hands buried deep into her hair. Some brat decided it would be funny to fling a wad of chewing gum at her from a window. Since cutting her hair wasn’t an option, they’d just have to gradually work it out.

Antonio relished the feeling of her soft hands tracing and lingering over his unshaven jaw, her caresses lingering on his skin. “Positively incorrigible?” he murmured, lazy forest green eyes fluttering shut behind dark lashes fanning against tanned cheeks. Even locked away from the sunshine in an opium den for the past several months, his olive complexion still persisted. “Then you’re positively an idiot for getting involved with me,” he chuckled, his hands cupping her bottom, rolling the flesh in his hands as he pulled her closer. “But that’s okay, I love them dumb and pretty.” Of course in his eyes that was a compliment–what did a woman need intelligence for when she had beauty? 

Another purr rumbles in her throat as his comment rolls off her back, perhaps in agreement. European men simply didn’t know when to shut up even when it was good for them. The layers of fabric, crinoline, and petticoat aggravated her with it’s constriction and the rising heat of two intimate bodies. Glazed-over cognac scan his features before focusing once more on half-lidded emerald. Her lips moved from his, ghosting down his neck in a light dusting of kisses, breath grazing over olive skin.

Fingers leave the edges of his face, trailing down his torso and pausing at the band of his trousers. It occurred to her that this was much more than what she had hoped to bring from this excursion, the potentiality of him seeking even more favors -- or merely never letting her live it down.

DUNGEONS AND DUMBASSES

Name: Huang “Mei” Lee Mei. Age: 25. Race: Half-Elf. Gender: Female. Alignment: Chaotic Good. Appearance: A lithe woman with complimentary long, almost willowy legs. Long dark hair is pulled back in a lengthy braid that typically spills over one shoulder and frames cognac almost honey irises. Complimenting her almond-shaped eyes, long eyelashes line them. Underneath her hair peeks two small pointed ears, homage to her race. A playful grin usually plays on semi-full lips, unphased by the events that surround her. Most often she is covered by a black cloak, obscuring most of her features save her lips. She stands at 5′7. Lee Mei is beautiful, in the same way a viper is. If one squints, you may spy a sword on her hip and a crossbow on her back underneath her cloak.

Best traits: Dexterity and Charisma. Worst traits: Intelligence and Strength.

Class: Bard / Rogue. Deity: Non-Worshiping, Godless Heathen.

History: Born to a Sun Elf mother and a Shin Father, the young Lee Mei was left in the care of her mother shortly after her father’s death during wartime. Her mother retreated back to her home village. There, she grew surrounded by the melodies of lyres and flutes, peace, beauty, and other elven children. Perhaps her upbringing was a curse, she thought often. She grew much like the other children, played like them -- but she was ‘too’ human for their standards. The outlier: a half-elf, despite being born with her father’s complexion and structure, her elvish heritage offered little recompense aside from pointed ears and golden irises. Her mother gave her a bitterly human name, a homage to her father but what for ? It was an irony she could not possibly bare. She spent much of her time practicing her music. From music, it was magic, then swordplay, then archery. Her interests remained fickle, but surprisingly malleable as she grew older and her realization of a world beyond the village. A merchant eventually arrived from many towns away. He was a human and spoke of tales beyond the elven society that they created. Travelers came and went among the Elves, but they never uttered a word of their experiences. This eventually inspired Lee Mei to do the same. On her 18th year, she bid farewell to her mother. Making Lee Mei made her way to the closest civilization with not much more than a few gold coin, her lute, and a long sword. Her talent with music aided her efforts, her sharp ears picking up what hushed words were spoken in each of the taverns she performed in. The information was sold, and exchanged, and it did not take long for her to realize that indeed - it was a business she was willing to partake in. Several years later, she displays many talents; she performs Elvish ballads, plays fools for all their equipment and win with a roll of die, and maintains an informant business of the rumor mill.

Joining the Quest: Lee Mei arrived at the tavern at the calling of another rumor intrigue. She knows well of the King’s assassination and wouldn’t mind entertaining an adventure to pull a hefty profit from finding the King’s heir -- wherever he is, of course.

And Caio had always been grateful for having a good sister to clean his ass – true be told, he never had bad intentions but also never measure the consequences of his actions. There’s times that a little prank got way off proportion and at those times, he could always count on Catalina to help him. There were even times that he put Catalina herself in troubles but about that Caio would dare to say that she actually likes trouble – maybe even more than he does and that people shouldn’t be deceived by her angel face.

“But movies are pretty cool! It’s just bad that reality is so different. Anyway, I can dress up as long as you don’t put a tie on me. And I guess I can deal with smokers.” Even though he has a well-deserved fame of being a party boy, he’s not a smoker himself, and hates the cigar smell in closed and crowded places.

“But what are we waiting for? Guide me the way, sis! The night is short and we’re getting old here!”

Relinquishing a laugh, a grin grows on her face. She would entertain his outing, slipping out from underneath his arm to grab him by it and leading the way deeper into the city. The city that she knew intimately as she knew her own body - her heart and soul. Swerving through the crowd, she approaches a storefront with a somewhat rundown exterior.

Lee Mei knew well to entertain his aspirations to look like a high-roller and what more than a local shoppe with a talented seamstress ? Opening the door, the bell rings and a middle-aged woman greets them in Cantonese. The woman was not well-dressed, but the storefront had various displays of clothes for both sexes. The two exchange words, chattering. Eventually they finish and the woman leads them to a particular rack with dress shirts, leaving them to browse.

“ How big are you on wearing button-downs ? ”
