it was a pretty busy night at fox and hare, and while libby’s duties as a hostess mainly revolve around answering the phone, greeting customers, and showing them to their seats, she had to pick up an extra task or two to help out the staff, one being taking drink orders and delivering them. for anyone else, this wouldn’t be a problem. but for libby, bless her heart, she was only a few months into living in frostford and didn’t realize that people around here say ‘coke’ when they want a soft drink - not an actual coke. “alright, and here is your coke,” she stated in an upbeat tone as she placed the cold glass on the holder. “is there anything else i can get for you while you wait?” @frostfordstart

Karina sucked her teeth, making a tsking sound as she dropped her down on onto the table in front of her. “Okay, I retook the quiz and it still says that if I were a donut, I’d be a glazed donut. Like, what is that even supposed to mean? Should I be offended?” 

libby laughed at karina’s concern over a buzzfeed quiz, but at least she was one of the few people in town who actually knew what that was. “i mean, aren’t glazed donuts kinda plain? i’d be offended, you’re obviously not plain, and neither am i. what were the details? did they say why you’re a glazed donut?”

libby sat in a corner booth at the watering can, one of the few places she could pick up good cell reception in frostford, surprisingly. her phone was really all she had to keep her connected to what she was missing back in chicago, one could even say she had fomo. tired of refreshing her apps over and over, she placed her phone down on the table and scanned the room, coming across @holdcnhq. “hey,” libby called out in his direction before picking herself up from her chair and making her way over to him. “you’re one of those mcquarrie boys that everyone gossips about around here, aren’t you?”

@coltonrollins was one of the few faces that were familiar to libby during her short time in frostford. she frequented the bar more often than she’d like to admit, but there really wasn’t much else to do in this small town. sure, she could go down to the galaxy and see a tom hanks movie for the billionth time, but even that gets old. “alright listen darlin’, i’m gonna need something stronger than my regular pina colada. y’all and this homecoming business are killing me.”

“okay, answer me this  – why is there gonna be a petting zoo for all the animals y’all deal with and see every day? i’m pretty sure that every child in frostford has rode a goat or whatever animal they wanna ride. are they gonna have some exotic animals? camels? reptiles? like if they want my money they gotta make it worthwhile,” libby stated flatly, unaware that the person she was talking to was none other than @donniercllins.

when libby got word that there was going to be an after-party after the big game, her eyes lit up like a child. if there was one thing this town was missing, it was definitely the excitement of parties and late nights. she almost thought this might be too good to be true – and she was right. "you gotta be kidding me,” she muttered with a sigh, her tall wedged heels sinking down into a mixture of mud and hay that surrounded mayfield barn as she walked up with @gcldcrownd. “when y’all said an after-party, i thought you meant an after-party,” she complained. “what are we gonna do? milk the cows? in these heels? i think not.”

it had been four months since libby moved into town, and within those few months she had never seen frostford as excited for any holiday or event quite like homecoming weekend. there was a sign in almost every shop stating ‘go falcons!’ and just about everyone she ran into was wearing the school’s colors. “i just... i don’t get it,” libby furrowed her brow in @ofjuliette‘s direction. “is this like y’all’s christmas or something? what am i missing here. homecoming’s were never this big of a deal back in chicago.”

“can you believe they got us standing out on main street for this little rinky dinky parade?” libby asked, clearly annoyed. but not annoyed enough to not enjoy what some of the food vendors had to offer. “i don’t know what i was expecting honestly, but it sure as hell was more than a band of ten people and a procession of fire trucks.” she pinched off a piece of her cotton candy before offering it to @charlottemaeparker. “want some?”

bear had been going door to door with his clipboard all day in the alabama heat. by this point, he was a little fatigued, but his dog had been loving the exercise, and, of course, all of the petting from the various townspeople. next on his list were the mathis’s, and, if past experiences were reliable, a sure thing. he was surprised when it wasn’t them that opened the door, but their granddaughter. still, though, he smiled and started his spiel. “hey… it’s libby, right? i’m trying to gather signatures on behalf of our county residents. our board of supervisors is currently trying to block section 41-9-291, code of alabama 1975, relating to the alabama underwater cultural resources act, to amend the definition of cultural resources to delete the  language that includes items that are eligible for, or listed  in the alabama register of landmarks and heritage.”

when libby heard the firm knocking at the door she was half expecting it to be a few neighborhood kids trying to sell some cookie dough or maybe even raffle tickets for a school fundraiser. imagine her surprise upon opening the door to find a man and his dog, no cookie dough or baked goods in sight. “yes, this is libby- ”. before she had time to finish her sentence he was already going on about some sort of petition that ended up going right over her head. waiting patiently for him to finish, libby furrowed her brow. “i’m sorry, what did you say your name was again? and what’s uh, section 42-91?”

One walk down Main Street and I saw a beagle dressed like a hot dog, a pitbull with a rainbow on its back, and a little yappy chihuahua wearing a teeny tiny witches hat. Am I missing something? Narrowing her eyes in Xavier’s direction, Libby tilted her head to the side. “Oh, I’m sorry... you must have mistaken me for someone who gives a rat’s ass about your little nature walks. Clearly, I don’t.”
