Hux nodded mechanically. He held back his sneer toward the boy who was clearly judging him. One couldn’t be too careful. “I see. So this is just a large floating orphanage, of sorts?” Perhaps he was too frank. But that is what it seemed to be. Maybe these younglings were less of a threat than he thought. “I am willing to negotiate upon your return.”
Hux had rarely ever had the time for frivolous meals. He had grown up on ration bars for most of his childhood and had hardly kicked the habit. His stomach grumbled. The promise of something real and warm sounded appealing to his aching body. But he was in no condition to accompany these suspicious characters, not yet. “No. I think the ration bar will do.”
Hux was given the ration bar he wanted so badly, and then he was left in the medbay with the two other officers to rest. The other men woke up a bit later, and they were just as confused but accepted their story a lot easier. They also accepted real meals, and they ate them happily.
A day later Jayran went to meet them again. “Morning, General Hux. I see you’re feeling a bit better. Are you ready to move to your own room while you’re here? The medic said it should be fine already.” He was alone this time, if the guards weren’t counted.
