i managed to skip this one during the high school summer reading lists. it was such a pleasant read and i'm glad i just decided to read it on my own, as an adult. it had me laughing at multiple times, there was mess, and by the end i was ye*rning.

there are many couples and a lot of "love" in this story, but i see why elizabeth & darcy's relationship stands out in the romance industrial complex. thev're reallv adorable, and the way their relationship grew and changed over the course of the novel was so good!

aight bro, i'm finna cri. this was good and stressful. was reminded A LOT of what it's like living through this pandemic with people who "don't want to bow down to fear" and insist on telling people "take off your mask! you're being dramatic!"

malory's journey on the river with the babies was scary, but not as terrifying as being in the house with gary. they should've never let his ass in! a bad seed who infected the weakest one in the house and destroyed everything. i feel for malory; the four years alone with the babies and everything she experienced from the day she gave birth was monstrous. get my girl some calories, and please let her relax. 😭

it's dark-sided!!! so very dark-sided!!! there were moments i had to just stop and stare. a book hasn't had me shook like that since i read pet sematary years ago! i felt so bad for the baby, but it's always white people who playing with ouija boards and inviting demons in. not in my african home!!!! can't wait to watch the movie now - I'm not sure if i've ever sat through the whole thing. definitely a midnight watch.

i love going on journeys with geralt! i already liked the witcher games, and when i realized it was adapted from a book, i put it on my list. it's short stories that tie together, the last of which ends with him and yennefer's first meeting. my sorceress queen!!! i love her. who cares that she was once a hunchback! she's a baddie NOW! she's my favorite, and nenneke my second fave, but really i enjoyed all the characters - even dandelion's ass lol. i'll definitely be back for more witcher! let me get myself together for my next adventure alongside geralt of rivia.

i really enjoyed this read - it was a nice change of pace. a drama set over hundreds of thousands of miles, and an absolutely silent earth. the isolation felt familiar during this pandemic, and the bittersweet irony in how the aloneness is what brought the characters together.

the thought of being stranded in the arctic is horrid, but at least it's earth. being in space sounds like absolute hell!

the cliffhanger that ended "the vampire lestat" meant i HAD to come back for more. now we have queen akasha in the mix, and she might be a lil psychopathic, but she's also thee baddest.

unfortunately, i didn't enjoy this one as much as the first two books. there were too many perspectives, with NONE of them being akasha's, the villain of the story! what?! major oversight TO ME!

i think if the story was more linear instead of back and forth with flashbacks from various people and their stories, AND we had an akasha POV, it would've been amazing. between maharet and mekare, akasha, and lestat - they held the sweet spot.

i really enjoyed this! there are paranormal elements, but the mystery of the story is where the meat is - and as it unfolded, chile…. small towns + religion is just NOT it. it felt like broadchurch meets sharp objects meets the exorcist. definitely gonna check out other works by the author.

this was a quick read, and i'm glad it was because it was anticlimactic. this family has been stalked by a monster for generations, with the son, the sixth victim of the family bringing an end to it. it was creepy at times, and the characters felt like real people, but that denouement was weak as hell!!! we move.

oooweeeee. this gave me what i needed! after the interview with the vampire, i didn't know if i could ever care for lestat, but this book changed that. the relationship between him and his mother made me feel! 😭 i love gabrielle!

now, let me tell you bout armand - that one? when there is nasty business going on, of COURSE he's involved in it. can't stand his ass! What he has done to my vampire family will not go unavenged!

i thought it was funny how the main character owns a mystery bookstore, but her sister was the better detective. also, my favorite part of mystery novels is how they always show that cops are absolutely useless. tricia has to do all the work to solve the murder, cause ms. sheriff didn't feel like doing her job. typical!

a light read; the beginning of a series, but i'm good with just the first one.

but seriously, to say there's at least three different perspectives in this book, and we don't even see frodo and sam until well past the halfway mark, the story never feels like there's something missing. pip and merry's time with the ents was my favorite - loved treebeard!

tempted to start part three immediately…

my god, that's what i call writing. such a good book. visceral and devastating and absorbing.

even though the main character was a twat, she is surrounded by women who have stories and presence that can't be overshadowed, and they constantly pull her card - love it, love them.

also, i am once again calling for all white people to return to europe on the first thing smoking.

hmm… 🧐 i'll give it three out of five stars. all the trappings were there - a human doctor to supernatural beings, vampires, demons, and a religious cult? it's litchrally my alley.

i enjoyed it, but i sweatergod it took me forever to actually get a grip on the fact that this story is set in the present day and not in the 19th century - i was so confused when the main character pulled out a cell phone. it's written in a way that is dated right for that time, so when she mentioned sending a text message i was like "???". if the climax hadn't been so abrupt, i probably would have forgotten about any gripes i had, but the drama ended too quickly! there's two more books in the series, i'm sure someone will love them - it just won't be me.

it wasn't good, but it wasn't terrible, either - especially compared to my last read. the fantasy element was pretty pointless, and there were really no consequences to the main character's actions in the story; the drama was just not there!

also, i read one (1) ☝🏾 romance novel and i feel like i've had enough for at least a year. unless i decide to read pride and prejudice, i'm keeping away from the genre!
