We moved into a new house in September. The neighbors have about 20 outdoor cats running around, but only one came and made friends with us. She was the smallest cat ever but she was 9 years old and her name was Layla (their 11 year old son told me all this, and seemed the only one who preferred her to the kittens) and would come greet me at my car every time I got home and sit on our laps on the porch.

My housemate found her dead on the road the other night. He knocked on the neighbors door but they didn’t even seem to care. They didn’t even go get her body until the 11 year old came out to do it hours later.

It’s hard grieving for a cat that’s not even yours, but I left this on their porch. I hope the little boy will like it at least.

You were a special one, Layla. Thanks for all the head rubs.
