In every moment, for the rest of my life, I will be choosing you. Over everything else. Matthew and Diana in A Discovery of Witches (Season 2)
DO NOT SUPPORT SALVATION ARMY
I can back this up. It isn’t only their shelters.
I have a family friend who worked at our local Salvation Army headquarters as a a secretary. This particular office took all the Christmas donations for children in need, put them in a warehouse, and on a designated day the staff and their friends picked through them all, taking whatever they wanted. She saw people hauling away bikes donated for specific families. Some local children had hundreds of dollars of gifts donated in their name, and on Christmas they received three cheap things, items likely not even from the person who sponsored them.
My friend quit, and I’ve not given them a dime of my money since then.
Do not give to the Salvation Army.
Do Not. Give. To. Salvation. Army
My turn.
I’m a wildfire and disaster logistics specialist.
I deal with a lot of agencies who provide disaster relief.
I used to say the Salvation Army’s disaster services were the one (literally the ONE) good thing they did.
They would come in, set up a canteen trailer, make and pass out hot coffee and donated food in a disaster, usually being one of the first agencies to get there and the last to leave.
Then I found out.
Every time they did this, regardless of if they were actually invited or deployed by the agency in charge (usually FEMA, sometimes others) they would SELF-DEPLOY. Meanjng they would just show up. Ok. That’s not TOO bad, sometimes agencies have to take initiative and get there before the red tape is sorted out. BUT. They, after they left at the end of the incident, they would send FEMA or the host agency a BILL. They used one or two paid employees (usually the driver of the truck and a supervisor); and many VOLUNTEERS, but they would bill for EVERYONE’s Labor at standard federal rates. They would bill for the food they distributed even though it was all donated by another agency or private parties. They would bill for the coffee they made and the supplies. Except they would use electricity from the shelter location, water from donations or from the shelter, and in many cases, they would get the coffee and industrial filters DONATED, but bill for them at retail prices.
Don’t FUCKING give to the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army is also ass to the workers. A good number of people join it, naively thinking that it’s doing good, and end up leaving cynical and beaten down. The management is hostile, if not outright abusive, and demand some ridiculous hours of it lower to mid-level staff. Don’t support these people.
I made this for a few of my supernatural friend (and send a print to them), but I thought perhaps you would enjoy it too!
I don’t reblog much, but this is too well said not to.
This always gets a reblog.
It really is that simple.
Just a reminder that Jensen Ackles isn't homophobic. He's Destielphobic, which is respectable
Alright so I haven’t given two shits about Supernatural for years but y’all really think Jensen Ackles is homophobic as fuck? The man is a huge supporter of the LGBT community, hell he has LGBT relatives. This is just insane mega fans taking minor shit he said out of proportion. Just because he thinks his character isn’t bisexual does not mean he is anti-lgbt, you fucking idiots.
I never found an answer because the one thing I want, it’s something I know I can’t have. But I think I know now, happiness isn’t in the having, it’s in the being. It’s in just saying it. I know how you see yourself, Dean. You see yourself the same way our enemies sees you. You’re destructive, you’re angry and you’re broken and you’re Daddy’s blunt instrument. You think that hate and anger, that’s what drives you, that’s what you are. It’s not. And everyone who knows you sees it. Everything you have ever done, the good and the bad, you have done for love. You raised your little brother for love, you fought for this whole world for love, that is who you are. You’re the most caring man on Earth. You are the most selfless loving human being I will ever know.

On June 11th, Michael Hickson, a quadriplegic black man with COVID-19 was killed by a hospital in Austin Texas.
Doctors decided he had "no quality of life" an was not worth spending the resources to save.
The conversation between his doctor and his wife was caught on audio 1/?
[description of image: a photo of Hickson, lying in a hospital bed and smiling for the camera /description]
Doctor: So as of right now, his quality of life -- he doesn't have much of one.
Melissa: What do you mean? Because he's paralyzed with a brain injury he doesn’t have quality of life?
Doctor: Correct.
--
Hickson was refused food or treatment for 6 days
In the YouTube video, the doctor can be heard saying "he will have lines and tubes coming out of his body... That's not quality-of-life"
I have tubes coming out of my body. I happen to like my life. Without those tubes I'd be dead
Our definition of quality is vastly different
So, when you see me repeatedly yelling about masks, paying attention to disabled people, and you don't understand why I tweet with passion, remember this.
I'm fighting to change culture that doesn't see disabled life as quality. many of us are afraid and rightly so.
LaBlaq @LoveAndShalom
Please, please, please don't sweep this under the rug. Your disabled friends are in danger.
We must unite and fight this!
His wife was not notified of his death until the next morning after his remains had already been transported to a funeral home without [Mrs. Hickson’s] permission.
“No one has offered condolences. There has never been an apology or acknowledgment of his death. It’s like they just don’t care,”
#disabled not disposable
This is my first try at making fanart. It's not my strong suit, but I was rereading TMI and really wanted to make something.

Imagine that. Hiring people who specialize in solving social problems works better than giving your high school bully, who can’t solve a cereal box maze, a gun and qualified immunity. #shocker
Full article is here. The social workers are on the police force, responding as 911 calls come in. Police chief says:
It was close to a $45,000 to $50,000 annual savings from hiring a police officer the first time to hiring a social worker ... They (police social workers) started solving problems for people in our community and for our agency that we’ve never been able to solve before.
Tell your local government about police social workers and link them to this article. Saves money AND saves lives!
Any decent cop should be saying “yes, please, let’s do this, I’m not qualified to help some people, this isn’t what I signed up for” but instead we get bullshit.
If you would report an undocumented immigrant to ICE you would have reported me to the Nazis and I don’t fucking trust you
A note:
I live in a state where you “have to” report anyone you suspect of being undocumented (that wonderful hellhole of Arizona). Now in practice this law has fallen far short, thank goodness. But if you live in such a place and they start enforcing it, here is how you get around it:
Assume everyone who doesn’t speak English is visiting.
Never ask about their job, because if they tell you they work here then you know they’re not visiting. You see them a lot for several weeks or months? Hm. Someone in the family must be ill. That’s terribly tough. They always dress in old, ratty laborers’ clothes? I feel you, my dude, I can’t afford new clothes either, and my dad has the fashion sense of an aardvark, so sometimes it’s not even about “affording” them. They say they’ve been here for years? You must have misunderstood. Spanish isn’t your first language, after all. First and last name? It never came up, or you don’t recall–you meet a lot of people.
And then, if you’re asked: no, you haven’t seen anyone residing illegally in the United States. Just people visiting.
Very good very important addition
Essentially, this is the civil society version of a work-to-rule strike.
Don’t do more than is expressly asked of you, and do what you are asked with such an intense attention to protocol that not asking you at all becomes more effective than even bothering.
In this case:
“Have you seen an illegal immigrant?”
“Could you describe an illegal immigrant, officer?”
*officer describes a person who is in the country without appropriate paperwork, or who has crossed the border illegally*
“No, sir, I haven’t seen any illegal immigrant.”
And this is correct. You have NOT seen an illegal immigrant, because you have no way of knowing if Jose Fulano is here legally or not. And since you can’t see his paperwork (or lack thereof), and did not personally see him cross the border illegally, you are only answering precisely the question asked.
I’m not American, and I have like, three followers, but this is important.
a surprising amount of really important activism rests on your ability to lie convincingly to people in authority
With a home made pallet-bed/ couch/ table and 34 plants and counting! Love my little place.
My vintage inspired room, with a hand made pallet-bed which doubles as starage, couch and at the end there’s a table with bench. Add another chair and there’s place for four people!! For me nature is really important, so I really enjoy using re-purposed materials and recycling.(AND loads and loads of plants (36 and counting)) The lamp above my table is made from old flashlights and the one next to my bed is made from an old camera.
I love this place <3
The first pride was a riot, more specifically a riot against police violence. Trans women like Miss Major and other people of colour paved the way for the celebration of pride today. You cannot celebrate your pride this month, or any month if you aren’t also supporting Black Lives Matter and the riots going on against police violence right now. Us white LGBTQ+ need to stand up for our black siblings and their rights, their struggles. We need to amplify their voices and show any support we can.
