If you don’t understand why God would love someone like you it is because you don’t see who you really are. You are judging yourself by your past decisions, but God sees you through the blood of His Son because you are worth it and He keeps no record of wrongs but values who He created you to be.

@grace-upongrace-xx  People who ask the question “Why would God love someone like me” base their value on the life they know. God bases your value on what He created you to be. God knows your destiny. He knows your potential. He knows what you look like when He’s in you and you’re surrendered––He thinks it’s worth paying for.

He didn’t pay a price for you because you’re a sinner. He paid a price to get it off of you ‘cause you’re not created for it. He became a lie on the cross; He became sin; that’s not who He is; He was made to be sin so you could stand right in the sight of God. 

God didn’t curse His Son on the cross, He made His Son to be sin, and He cursed what was killing us. He cursed sin in the flesh and sin shall have no dominion over us, for the law of the Spirit of life through Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and death.

So the blood of Jesus was shed to bring mercy and forgiveness toward the act of sin committed. But the body of Jesus beaten brutally, to pay the price to remove the penalty in our flesh of those sins. That’s why we eat the flesh and drink the blood of King Jesus and receive life.

Let’s not forget this simple truth: everything God does, He does for His glory.

God set His heart on you not because of your attractiveness or beauty or intelligence or worth (not to say humans are worthless because we are bearers of Imago Dei or the image of God). God set His heart on you–even when you were a sinner, a rebel, a God-hater–to display His grace and mercy, and thus glorify His name.

Oh the seriousness of sin! The sting of it! Everything eroded when it entered humanity. God was never obliged to save us. He didn’t have to offer His Son as a sacrifice to take our place. Christ didn’t have to humble Himself and come to the world as a propitiation for our sins. And yet… He Himself became cursed for us (Galatians 3:13). The full wrath of the Father was poured out on the Son. I can’t even imagine that. What a terrifying thing it is to fall into the hands of a holy God. I beg you–run to. Christ.

Dear Christian, Jesus paid the price for your sin. The only reason you are saved today is because God had mercy upon your soul. Remember this–He doesn’t owe anyone salvation, because we all rightfully deserve His judgment and wrath, but God showed mercy. Why do we deserve wrath? Because we are sinners, and we didn’t sin against a man; we sinned against an infinitely holy, righteous, and perfect God.

Let’s not ever forget the seriousness of sin and the holiness of God.

It's hard to swallow; sometimes it really is. Sometimes the sin - yes, and the seriousness of it - consumes us, but that one thing still remains no matter what we think: God loves us. We can choose to ignore it as we draw the curtains of sin and hide in our house, but it doesn't change the fact that the love of God is sitting at the front door, waiting for you to open up the house of your heart to it.
