pirate is 100% worth playing through entirely. the combat system is what gets most people since they’re so used to wiz battles, but i can assure that it gets way easier to understand the more u play. the game itself has a phenomenal storyline and i’d say its worth playing simply for that, but of course there’s also a lot more to be offered by playing it.
as for soloing, i’d say u can pretty much solo most of the game, but once u hit mooshu the difficulty does spike quite a bit (from personal experience it can indeed be soloed - its just a lot harder to do). however, around the final world it gets nightmarish so i’d highly recommend looking for people to quest with, whether u find ppl in game or through discords or other places is entirely up to u.
when it comes to beginner tips:
pet training is a great thing to focus on since pets join u in battles and they can be extremely useful, so when u get pets (u get one from a side quest early on in the game) make sure to level them.
as your crew starts getting bigger and u no longer have to worry about having available companions in case one dies in combat, start giving them orders (sailing is a godsend - u will rarely have to worry about getting nautical xp that way)
pirate’s leveling system is 10x better than wiz’s so ur always the right level for everything. that being said, i wouldn’t bother with side quests unless u want the rewards or if ur going for a completionist route. however, many side quests in the game have really fun and interesting stories, so if u find one u think u might enjoy doing then give it a go!
all the classes have their own unique play styles and abilities and are all useful and fun in their own ways, so play whatever class u want.
training points are extremely useful and allow u to get buffs/heals/abilities from other classes. u get 1 training point every 5 levels, but if u rly want them i’d recommend doing zeke’s quests.
keep your main companions high level, but keep a gap (3-5 levels) between their level and yours. as u level up, training your companions to keep them close to your level will cost less companion training points.
u can buy companion training points in taverns, but they get hella expensive the higher level u are, so stock up while ur still low level.
as u level, u get quests from other class trainers which reward 3 companion training points, so do those if ur in need of them.
keep 1 or 2 companions available for combat alongside ur main 3 in case some get defeated.
make sure to take the time to complete companion promotions when they become available, since companions gain new epics, talents, and better abilities from them.
