So, the character sitting atop my most played champions and most successful ranked champion is... Nautilus. I think I decided I wanted to play him because he's tanky, CC heavy and not altogether complicated to grasp. I don't know too much about his lore, which is kind of odd for me seeing as I'm the type of player to get into the lore of the characters I play (like Malzahar or Lulu). I play him in the Jungle a lot with my team, and is definitely a comfort pick for that position for me. I like taking him as a support in solo queue ranked as well. It can be hard to play sometimes as he doesn't have that ability to yank team mates from danger like Tahm Kench or Thresh, but when the team fights happen it's good playing a champ that can so strongly initiate. In my placements, I lost 6 games, won 4 with Naut and got placed in Silver 5. Definitely my go to.

LoL Time #1

I don't blog nearly as much as I would like. Last time I posted to my tumblr was when I was still playing Monster Hunter. Since the competitive season for Pokemon is done til December in Australia, I've been playing a lot of League of Legends. I'm hoping to spend more time playing and getting better at the game. I was always holding myself from playing because I felt I wasn't good enough, even unranked play caused me anxiety because of the supposed toxic nature that's about the game. In my experience in the last few months, I've found that it isn't actually all that bad, and playing with friends as much as possible has made it all the more pleasant. I actually do venture into the queues to play by myself and even though it's the end of the season, I've even been playing ranked matches to see how I fair. While I want to talk about Pokemon too, I think I'm also going to occasionally blog about LoL too. I enjoy talking about it, and reflecting on successes and failures. It helps to record and remember the lessons I seem to learn with each game I play.

Sour Grapes

Sour Grapes is a saying that comes from my favourite Aesop Fable ‘The Fox and the Grapes’ and a particular poetic version of the story goes like this:

The fox who longed for grapes, beholds with pain The tempting clusters were too high to gain; Grieved in his heart he forced a careless smile, And cried ,‘They’re sharp and hardly worth my while.’

The moral of the story is ‘it is easy to despise what you cannot get’. It’s something that applies in a lot of different ways both towards yourself and others.

I guess this is how 17th century dudes said ‘haters gonna hate’.

Spare Time

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything and life tends to dictate the time we can dedicate to pursuits like written self reflection. You don’t need to be a full time student living out of home supporting themselves with a job to claim you don’t have a lot of free time.

I myself am a 9-to-5-er with free weekends. More than enough time to squeeze a blog post or two now and again, but, us full-time twenty-somethings need down time. My downtime doesn’t tend to feature blog writing and so the sorry state of this tumblr has come to be covered in cobwebs - I have enough of those in my house to worry about.

I spend my weekends relaxing. I spend my weekdays doing a variety of household chores - cooking, cleaning, washing, that type of thing. By the time I get to sit down in front of my PC in the evening I am done for the day. I don’t want to hammer out the paragraphs about…things, I want to watch silly YouTube videos and play games. The Pokemon Trading Card Game Online is one of my biggest vices by virtue of being a competitive player for many years (and is a hobby that is a prominent feature of my weekly schedule).

So at the end of the day, I don’t have much free time for blogging, but, the creative urge I get from time to time to put the metaphorical pen to paper compels me to make the time. To remember good ideas and to share small, personal successes which I don’t feel like posting on Facebook about. So that I have a collection of thoughts and feelings about navigating my life as a young IT professional to look back on.

Something I often tell my girlfriend is that you can always make time to do the things you want to do. You just need good time management. I should try to take my own advice more often.
