Oksi Mindoreños got one big thing to be proud of.
For two consecutive years, 2015 and 2016, the Provincial Government of Occidental Mindoro was awarded with the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The SGLG had its beginning with the introduction of Seal Of Good Housekeeping (SGH) by then DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo in 2011. It was designed to promote accountability and transparency through established mechanisms to track and monitor local government units’ Financial Management, covering the areas of local legislation, development planning, resource generation, and resource allocation.
Such mechanisms on the other hand were based on anecdotal and official reports of Commission on Audit (COA) which determine how compliant the local government units are in the latter’s policy.
And in the same year, Occidental Mindoro was one of the firsts to receive such recognition having been given the Seal of Good Housekeeping.
With positive response from the local government units, SGH was then upgraded to Seal of Good Local Governance in 2014 by then DILG Secretary Mar Roxas. Broader scope of monitoring were presented with which the local governments need to satisfy six elements of SGLG, to wit: 1) good financial housekeeping, 2) disaster preparedness, 3) social protection, 4) business friendliness and competitiveness, 5) environmental protection, and 6) peace and order.
Having been awarded the Seal of Good Local Governance, it is then safe to assume that the Provincial Government of Occidental Mindoro has satisfied the six elements as required by the award.
Located at the lobby of the Capitol Building, the seals for both 2015 and 2016 attached and can be seen at the left side wall of the exit door.
We look forward then for the Provincial Government to receive the same recognition for the year 2017. And this early, we already congratulate the administration of Gov. Gene Mendiola, Vice Gov. Peter Alfaro, the members of Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Cong. Nene Sato and all employees of the Capitol.
Meanwhile, here’s a series of infographics that can give us a clearer understanding of requirements under each element that an LGU should satisfy to qualify as a recipient of said award:

The last five of Municipality of Lubang’s sixteen (16) barangays have just been declared “Drug Free Barangays” by its Municipal Police Station, making the whole of Lubang a drug free municipality in the Province of Occidental Mindoro.
In a Facebook post by Lubang Mps, August 24, a simple ceremony was held to officially acknowledge and give the recognition to five barangays -Bagong Sikat, Cabra, Tilik, Tagbac and Vigo – as Drug Free Barangays. The ceremony was led by PINSP Garry L. Gatchalian, Officer-In-Charge of Lubang Municipal Police Station.
The said post states:
DECLARATION OF DRUG CLEARED BARANGAY LUBANG MUNICIPAL POLICE STATION On August 24, 2017, personnel of this station led by PINSP GARRY L GATCHALIAN, Officer-In-Charge together with Barangay Officials, LGU Officials and Employees headed by Hon. Roberto M. Sanchez, Municipal Mayor, spearheaded the declaration of DRUG CLEARED BARANGAY namely: Barangay Bagong Sikat, Cabra, Tilik, Tagbac and Vigo of this municipality. These barangays complete the list and make the whole municipality drug cleared. The said activity is part of the continuing efforts towards the declaration of a drug cleared municipality.
As per Lubang Mps’s post, other barangays were beforehand declared as “drug-free” leading to this event.
While such is a monumental feat for the Municipality of Lubang, there are still others who remain skeptical of said recognition.
