ARTS 3379 ART EVENT
For my art event, I went to the Jackson Pollack: Blind Spots exhibit at the DMA in March. Unfortunately, I wasn’t allowed to take pictures inside the exhibit, but my friend and I snapped a picture inside the DMA (and yes, I know the picture is blurry).
I’m not really familiar with Pollock’s work, even though I heard his name multiple times before going to this exhibit. The artwork was extremely abstract and all the pieces were done in black and white. Even though there was no color involved, the pieces still had a strong emotional impact. All of the pieces reminded me of the ink blot test that psychiatrists used to preform on patients. I probably spent 10 minutes per piece to see how many “shapes” I could make out. The exhibit itself wasn’t very big, but my friend and I took the better part of an hour to look at all the art.
The one downside of the exhibit was that it was packed. This exhibit had been going on since January but there were still tons of people going in and out of the exhibit.
The takeaway that I received after going to this exhibit is that everyone had their own interpretation of Pollock’s work. As someone who knew little to nothing about Pollock before this exhibit, I didn’t get any real insight to who he was as an artist or a person. Regardless, I really enjoyed the exhibit and look forward to getting to know more of Pollock’s work.
