Alec DeWinter Presents: The Menagerie
The following poster would have begun to appear around the Reach following the latest open session. Attached was a small flyer with additional information.
“The Western Commons’ Menagerie hosts a variety of animals, some endangered and others abandoned by uncaring masters. Recent renovations have allowed it to host smaller animals and pets of all types, however, the struggle is not over for these furry friends. Alec DeWinter invites you to come and meet them on this special night and learn about what you can do to help the efforts of the shelter or even adopt one of them. Please join us on the 54th of Colossus 1330 AE and remember what the Western Commons has to offer.”

Bonus:
Fear
The loud crack of lightning that filled the dark sky caused the sylvari’s pale lilac eyes to shoot open. Vi watched as the sky illuminated for a brief moment, before fading once more onto blackness. She could feel the gritty grains of sand rub against her petal-like skin as she pushed herself to a seated position. Vi’s chin fell from the weight of her head, her long vines rustling as they fell around her face like a curtain. It was in that moment that the sylvari realized… where was she? Vi’s chin slowly turned, as her eyes grazed the dark landscape out in front of her, trying to spot any familiar landmarks. Nothing stood out. Shades of black and grays were laid out before her, only lit up for a moment when the lightning bounced its way across the sky. Only revealing a blur of colors, not long enough to allow the sylvari’s eyes to focus. Slowly, the woman inhaled, and held the breath she had just taken. She moved to push herself to her feet, but was immediately halted by a calm, baritone voice in a familiar cadence called out to her. “Issej?”
After a moment, his frantic voice called back to her once more, the calls of her name becoming increasingly more panicked as she pushed herself fully to her feet. Why was she not glowing? Why was he not glowing? His calls sounded as though he were right beside her, but with every flash of lightning, the Lightbringer spun around quickly, trying to spot her mate, head darting left and right. Finally, she felt it. Vi’s entire body began to warm rapidly, quickly becoming a painful heat… not unlike a burning. The woman fell to the ground, whimpering in pain. This was the end…
Both Vi and Issej’s eyes shot open simultaneously, both letting out matching gasps, only to reveal that they were in their home just outside The Grove. The vacuum of emptiness quickly dissipating as Vi listened to the creek trickling outside, running against the rocks and creating the soothing noise that she loved so much. Vi’s eyes slowly drifted to Issej, to find him already looking back at her. “...Were you inside my head?” “Of course not.” It was a lie. But Vi was afraid to admit that she had accidentally gone into Issej’s head while he was sleeping. The Lightbringer realized that her mate likely knew it was a lie, as the creases between his brows grew deeper. Vi turned onto her right side, taking a deep breath and closing her eyes, then feeling the Warden as he moved to wrap his arm around her. “Are you afraid you are going to die in the desert?”
“Of course not. I got this.” She knew he was lying, but what should she say? Vi had made the decision to stay behind. To stay and continue work in the Orchard. To focus on researching artifacts that the Company had returned with. She knew that it was not her place to fight in a war… but even if Vi decided to change her mind, she knew that it would not bring her mate any comfort.

I’ve posted this before, but it was relevant to tonight’s long, emotional conversation.
So, earlier @jillustrates brought this to my attention as the perfect example of Vi’s expressions and mannerisms, and I couldn’t agree more! And bonus, it’s the name of her blog.))
Remember, every relationship has its problems, but what makes it perfect is when you wouldn’t want to be anywhere else, even when times are tough.
