the new layout is Extremely Inaccessible, and I feel like Accessibility is something that Flight Rising just genuinely does not seem to understand and consider from a Visual standpoint.

which, its a dragon petsite, but more than that fr is? a business? it’s 7 years old, and no longer at the point where it’s just someones small little pet project of a site. And I feel like that really needs to factor in somewhere when you’re talking about the idea of Accessibility, and how much more they should be considering it.

They need to be asking these questions. They need to be looking at it with a different lens when building these things. It’s genuinely frustrating to me the degree to which this seems to get missed. And if they are considering these things and having a major discussion about it? Then they should really reevaluate what checks they have in place, because it does not come through at all.

I don’t really want to sit here and take a while explaining it, but for the people asking: Accessibility is a lot more than just “features”! Having content that is Accessible includes the way you lay out your text, the layout of your boxes and blocks, the colors you use, the font sizes you use, all sorts of things. Being able to look at that layout and have an clear understanding of it is…. not a Given for a lot of people. Visual accessibility is a huge thing that often gets overlooked or deliberately ignored in favor of having something that fits into a certain vision, especially as we advance into greater capabilities of graphic design. (Not to mention, being accessible also means following a number of guidelines and specifications for text and visual layout, which, flight rising is generally fairly good at following; but you also have to consider compatibility with things like screen readers and such, which no one ever seems to do.)

Its been literal years since I used FR but every time I think about going back, the team has made their site less accessible and still throws fits about using extensions to God forbid make their site usable to someone with disabilities. Almost all the problems they've had for years are still there, still unsolved, with the ONLY one I can remember being fixed being keyboard controls for the coli.

Which sucks, you know? I put a lot of work into my lair, I LOVED my dragons, and God there's so much art I commissioned that just sits there unused. It's a shame.
