How had Rapunzel ended up on a pirate ship? Well, that was a question for another time. The more important question was how she was going to get herself out of this situation she had found herself in - and her first idea was to try to make conversation. Maybe the captain was... friendlier than he looked?

The girl giggles nervously, clutching her frying plan close to her chest. Plan B, because this clearly wasn't going well so far...

yes I made a quintet in iambic pentameter for this and yes it was worth it. break down below for anyone curious :)

To chase the light of the emerging dawn,

you can always be sure the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. in other words, the sun as a guiding star - for the people Rapunzel helped guide to a brighter path.

Be scorched as it was with Daedalus's son,

Daedalus's son being Icarus. we all know the story. the sun as a source of pain - for those Rapunzel failed to do right by.

Or bathed in gold, from which new life will spawn,

nothing would exist as it is without the sun. the sun as the bringer of life - for those Rapunzel saved in their most dire hour.

The sunkissed daughter's gilded hands spare none.

the impact Rapunzel has on the people she crosses paths with is undeniable. as for whether that impact is good or bad, well, who can say?

She had considered not intervening - the stranger seemingly capable enough dispatching of his adversary - but just when it seemed like it was over, his enemy had gotten up and charged when his back was turned. What else was she supposed to do?

A loud clang! announces her presence, sending the target back to the ground.

❝ Wow! That was a close one. ❞ The girl's voice would call from the ledge she had been watching from, before the girl herself would begin to lower herself down to the ground using long, golden hair as a makeshift rope. ❝ That was amazing! You must be really strong. ❞ She smiles, pausing to pick up the frying pan she had thrown before taking a closer look at the other. ❝ You're not hurt, are you? ❞

Sometimes I think about Rapunzel finally getting out of her tower and away from her 'overprotective' mother figure only for her new bedroom to be at the top of the tallest tower in the palace and for her real overprotective father to set strict curfews and forbid her from leaving the kingdom and even lock her in her room that one time 'for her own safety'.... 💀
