Holy shit⦠Iām running the London Marathon next year!

I am knackered!
Our flat fell through literally 2 days before we were due to move as apparently the landlord didnāt have certificates and sign off on construction heād carried out on the flat, or something like that anyway.
So we had to scramble and find somewhere else to rent and have actually got something way better for around the same price. Rather than a flat weāve got a house which is split over 3 levels with our own garden. The area isnāt as nice as the flat but itās fine and weāve got a massive country park right behind us that our bedroom looks out onto.
Itās all happened fast so weāre frantically scrambling round getting things sorted while working which is also manic.
Exciting though. First time Iāll have lived in a house rather than a flat since I was like 18 years old living at home!
Hello everyone š
Iāve been rather radio silent on here the last month or so. I guess I havenāt had a lot to say or get out of my head, but itās been a busy few weeks!
I got back from two weeks in the US today, following Scotland round for the World Cup. Football wasnāt great but what an experience. We ticked off Boston, New York, Miami, and took a trip down the Florida Keys to Key West.
Loved every minute. The hospitality shown to the tens of thousands of Scots that made the trip over was amazing, particularly in Boston where we fell in love with the city and people, and them us.
Miami was SO hot but I loved Fort Lauderdale. I am burnt to hell right now though.
New York was a super short visit but was a lotā¦I got scammed of $80 within 5 mins of me stepping off the coach by a guy raising money for a kids ācharityā. When I agreed to donate I got surrounded and rushed by about 6 other guys all trying to get my phone and tap my contactless. Then got called racist when I told them noā¦it wasnāt a great startā¦but it picked up and we had a good time in the one day we spent there.
Key West was lovely, had such a nice laid back feel and I had the best Key Lime Pie Iāve ever tasted!
Aside from the World Cup weāre also moving! We viewed a few places in May and put an offer down on a nice 3 bed apartment with a private garden that was accepted. Just waiting on the tenancy agreement and then we move likely July!
Work has been a nightmare so nothing new there then. But I am thinking itās time to maybe see what else is out there. Seeing lots of companies in my field paying Ā£20k-Ā£30k a year more than what I earn right now for the same job. Weāve got a wedding to pay for, increasingly likely IVF to pay forā¦.I think I need to take the money and move.
Iām sure thereās other things but I wonāt bore you.
Hope youāre all doing good! ā¤ļø
Not remotely built for sun.
Fucking ouch.
The happiest boy š¶
Watched the final episode of Outlander tonight, the end of an era!
I was in my final year of uni when the first season came out. I loved that there was a show that was set in Scotland that actually did Scotland justice.
The tourism Outlander has brought to Scotland has been enormous! It became such a cultural phenomenon and I loved seeing the filming locations that were so familiar.
Thereās a big Scottish void now.
Following on from my nephew being beaten up on the school bus a couple weeks ago, the boy who did it was charged with assault and suspended from school.
Turns out itās still been happening every day for the last couple of weeks by this boys friends where today they pinned him down on the bus and took his trousers and underwear off.
Utterly fucking disgusting! Iām raging. Absolutely raging!
My sister called the police today who said theyād come to the house to take a statement and never showed up.
Theyāre making his life an absolute misery and it has to stop.
Itās the council elections on Thursday and I have zero clue who to vote for. I believe the right to vote is an important right and one everyone should use. Itās a freedom that people in other parts of the world die for.
But I have zero trust or faith in any of them now. Itās all just noise to me now. All I know is I donāt want Reform, Restore or the Tories. But I also have no desire for any of the others.
Itās also the Scottish Parliament elections on Thursday. Itās a given I think that the SNP will win fairly conclusively, but the fact Reform are well on course to being the official opposition in Scotland is pretty scary.
Iāve got no motivation for politics anymore.
My nephew got beaten up on the way home from school today by a bunch of kids which was filmed and posted online.
This is the second time this has happened in the last year or two. Apparently this time they lured him to the back of the school bus where they punched and kicked him.
Kids are so fucking cruel. Especially to other kids who have things like Autism like my nephew does.
Iāve seen the video, my blood is boiling.
Signed up for next years London Marathon because Iām stupid like that.
I understand your reaction about this friend of your brothers. But people grieve in different ways and this is how sheās dealing with it. I wouldnāt sweat it - canāt really control what she does anyway amirite?
I take your point, anon. She cared for him, is grieving, and thatās all okay. I wouldnāt take that away from her.
But things like posthumously entering him into the London Marathon without having spoken to his family first impacts our grief. No one gets to own grief, but there are boundaries.
If sheād told us prior that she wanted to do this weād probably have said okay. Itās blindsiding us with it though when this week is already a sensitive one as it was his birthday a couple of days ago.
When my brother was alive he had a pen pal we found out who lives in Bournemouth called Becci. We found out after finding a letter in his flat from her. My sister managed to track her down on Facebook and told her at the time about his passing.
I never really understood their relationship if Iām honest. Sheās married with kids, not that would mean they couldnāt be friends of course, I count many people Iāve met on here as friends, but when he died she started finding people in our family and adding them on social media. People who have zero clue who she is. She sends me messages now and again saying how she misses him and saying things about heād have loved this and that etc. Like for example she bought herself the football strip for the team me and my brother support because he supported them.
She clearly cared for him, and thatās okay. Who am I to say she couldnāt. But, I donāt know her, and I just find it a bit peculiar sometimes. Like how much she tries to attach herself to my family and our grief. She asked for my sister and her kids birthdays not long ago and I was likeā¦why?
Anyway, itās the London Marathon tomorrow. And sheās taken it upon herself to have someone whoās running for mental health awareness, wear my brothers name along with hundreds of others on their kit. She sent it to me and my sister today and has it all over her instagram and weāre both quite unhappy about it.
Like, itās a lovely thing to have done. But I feel like that is something she should have spoken with us about prior. Iām actually going to the marathon tomorrow to support a friend, and my brothers name being out there involved in it was not something I was expecting and I feel very weird about it.
Iāve wondered if Iām just being silly but it doesnāt sit right with me. Symbolically itās a big thing and something we should have been consulted about.
Itās also unsettling to be just scrolling social media and then be hit with my brothers name and picture out of nowhere being shared unexpectedly.
We went to see Project Hail Mary tonight. For the first 45 mins I couldnāt see what the hype was at all.
By the end of it I had cried three times! Loved it!
The night ended on a sour note however. We popped into McDonaldās to grab some shit food on the way home. There was a gay couple getting homophobic abuse by a bunch of lads. I couldnāt sit by and listen to it so stepped in as the staff were doing nothing. We got into some verbals which isnāt my thing but the stupid little cunts pardon my french needed brought down a peg.
By the time they decided to kick them out another group of guys got involved and man handled them out of the building not before I copped a few insults my way lol
Eventful start to the weekend.
Weāre moving into a new office at work and theyāre trying to get people to be more office based going forward.
So theyāve announced anyone who completes 30 days in office between May and July will get a Ā£1500 bonus in August.
I already do 3 days a week out of choice so Iām basically getting free money to do what Iām already doing.
Result!
We got absolutely splattered at football tonight.
One of the guys was screaming, barking orders as if he was the captain of a premier league team.
Mate, itās a 5 a side kick about after workā¦calm down lol
I have football in just under an hour and I donāt think my legs and back have recovered from last weeks game.
Iām not built for movement anymore.
On a forever bulk
