dess is such an interesting character and that is another factor of how good toby is at writing… he makes a character we haven’t seen ONCE and have only heard about past slight rumors and stories… she is Kind Of a vessel in a way, where the fandom can honestly do whatever they want with her right now. thats the beauty of the episodic format!! if everything was released all in one go, we’d probably know a Lot More about dess and ergo, she’d be, like, a Lot Less interesting!!
and i love seeing interpretations where she’s this rebel girl who is actually a softie and a huge inspiration in kris’ life, those are great!! but i also feel like she was probably just as equally flawed as everyone else in deltarune!! im probably going to make a comic about this but i feel like she was probably mentally unbalanced… and in my headcanon, she was envious towards kris’ exclusion. she’s the kind of person who WANTS a reason for her mental illness, but there isn’t a reason!!
sure, her mom’s a bit strict… but she’s rich, she goes to a nice school, is in a nice town, has good friends, a near-perfect family, and a life that wouldn’t really lead to despair. and that’s exactly why she wants to be different, to be otherworldly like kris is: so she has a reason. so there’s meaning behind the screwy shit in her brain!! she needs the exclusion, the pain, the excuse for why she explodes at random times and pushes people away and hurts the people she loves.
dess is so interesting :-,) i love seeing the interpretations on my comic, especially how people are relating their own experiences with kris… ughhhh love it. especially because people are seeing that i didnt want dess to be seen as necessarily good in that comic
just rambling at this point but i just love dess as a character <3
