Cool cat hanging out at the watering hole
Star and Neeka both turn 20 soon! Neeka is the alpha dog of the house and bosses the two little dogs around, but whenever Star gets hungry, Neeka has no problem letting her eat out of her dog bowl.
Star is feeling a little under the weather again. 😔 She had no appetite for her Thanksgiving dinner last night and has lost use of her back legs twice today. Still hoping for the best for her.
Star decides to stick to water instead.
Just enjoying some morning coffee!

Though she has been doing much better, this recent illness has taken a toll on her. She no longer speaks (or screams, rather), which she used to do all the time when I would bring her food or water. She doesn't wait for me at the door when I come home, but she still waits for me at the top of the stairs. They are little adjustments that I am more than happy to get used to. I'm just thankful I still have my lil Star. ⭐
This is a picture from a few weeks before the illness. It is my goal to plumpen her up again!
Our hope is that the vet can find some way to help our Star ⭐ She is showing signs of nerve damage, so we suspect that her growth is pressing on her spine and pinching a nerve. If this problem can be solved, we're sure she will live many more years as the happy little cat she always is.
Today and yesterday have been good days for little Star. Her appetite has increased and she is back to sitting with us in the kitchen instead of hiding away in her room. She started grooming herself again, which she hadnt been doing since she was first sick on Thursday.
Saturday night, she started having spasms in which her tail would twist to the side and her legs would fail. She would end up walking in circles until I helped her lay down. It was very scary, but the episode only lasted a minute or so, and after a while, she got up and walked normally again.
The same thing happened four times on Sunday, and our family was beginning to think that it could really be the end. We were going to make a vet appointment for Monday, but she had no more scary episodes, so we decided to wait and see how she was doing.
Now that Starlet is eating and hanging out with us again, I couldn't be happier. It has been 48 hours since her last spasm, and I can tell how much better she feels by the way she moves around the house more. She gets very excited when I bring out her food, and she hops up onto her little table whenever she wants me to bring her water.
Star's face when we tell her we're going to the vet today.
We're a proper English family; we tuck in our paws.
Star is still a little weak and not eating the amount she used to, but she is still eating small amounts and getting lots of water so we are hopeful!
Star gave us a big scare last night. I didn't see her for hours until I found her hiding in a corner behind a toilet in one of our bathrooms. I tried to pull her out but she wouldn't budge, and every time I had her partially out of the corner, she would turn around and scoot back in. I noticed that patches of her fur were wet and matted, and she was having trouble vocalizing. We laid down some blankets for her and kept a water bowl near by, and stayed with her all night.
Knowing Star has been sick for a few years, we knew the day would come when the growth on her stomach would start affecting her day to day life. But this came on so suddenly. She was being her normal self just hours earlier, demanding water and rubbing her face on my ankles. We weren't expecting such a sharp decline in her health.
Around midnight, she came out from her corner to take a few laps of water, and around 1, she laid down on my stomach and purred while I pet her. We brought her back upstairs to the bedroom she normally sleeps in, and while she did get up to meowl a few times during the night, it was mostly uneventful past that.
This morning she woke up with me as usual and has been acting her normal self, and though I refilled her water bowl and gave her her favourite kind of wet food (chicken and tuna in dinner gravy), she only took a few bites of food and hasn't had any water. We are hoping this is just a fluke and not the end of her time. She has been a fighter and a survivor since day one.
Happy halloween!
Happy national cat day!
