This event is open to everyone, both members and non-members. For guidelines, we’re suggesting that you aim for around 200 words of prose or 12 lines of poetry, but that’s just a suggestion!

The projects that I end up doing, that I want to be involved with in any way, have always been projects that will be impactful, for the most part, to my people — to black people. To see black people in ways which you have not seen them before. So Black Panther was on my radar, and in my dreams.

I hope he knew the impact he had on the lives of countless people around the world. I hope he knew how much he was loved and how many people admired his talent. How many people - little boys, little girls, men, women - looked up to him.

I can’t fight the tears that come stubbornly, I can’t actually believe that that is true but I know I’m finding comfort in knowing that Chadwick Boseman will literally live forever through the legacy he leaves behind, and that he’s already a legend and a symbol of hope and a symbol of power for forever.

Rest In Peace. Rest in Power, King.

first week: the neighbor’s rooster forgets to greet his master the master forgets to feed him

second week: my cheekbones lose  an inch of their pride as my stomach bloats  its way to defiance

third week: a stranger meets another stranger, starts a conversation strangers become friends ultimately

fourth week: i lose track of a friend a friend loses track of me two friends go back to being strangers

october-december a lone tisa tree in the backyard gradually loses its fruits to gravity their sweet yellowness feels  like an egg yolk that no one wants  to eat anymore  -the periodicity of their existence
