fun with new boyfriend!sugawara
It had been your first date as an official couple, and with how tense the two of you seemed someone passing by would’ve thought the two of you were still in your crushing stage. But that was far from the case, even then, it wasn’t like this was your first date with Sugawara ever.
“Are you not enjoying yourself?”
He asked, voice a bit worried. You both had been walking around town talking to the locals and doing some window shopping, you had been having fun just watching Sugawara, you had never stopped to think that he might think that you weren’t having fun.
“What? No, I’ve been enjoying our date so far!”
You said quickly, placing your hands out in front of you as if that would signify your point.
“Really, but you’ve seemed rather tense lately, just relax.”
You glanced over at Sugawara, giving him a light glare.
“As if! You’ve been more tense than me!”
You argued, earning a soft chuckle from him. Seriously, who knew going on a date with your new boyfriend could be so hard? You both had been on many dates before the two of you ever placed a label on your relationship. But once Sugawara finally asked you out officially things changed. To the point that everyone around you had noticed.
“Have I?”
He asked, pointing at himself as if you could be talking about anyone else in this moment before reaching back to scratch the back of his neck shyly. You only sighed softly, shaking your head as you walked ahead, there was a new curry place you had asked to go to, and since Sugawara didn’t have any qualms with coming he had agreed.
“You said your parents used to take you here quite often, right?”
He asked, making you smile as you realized he had actually remembered this time around.
“Oh, uh, yeah. They have good chicken katsu curry here. Chicken katsu is supposed to make you lucky so we’d go get it before important tests or events.”
You looked behind you, seeing how Sugawara smiled at you.
“Is that why you asked to come here? We are having a big game with Shiratorizawa tomorrow.”
Sugawara sighed, feeling genuinely appreciative that you had remebered even if you had already said you wouldn’t be able to make it to his game.
“You know I’m not apart of the starting line up, right? There’s a chance that eating a meal ahead of time for good luck won’t do anything.”
You paused at that, giving a soft huff of annoyance. You always hated when he put himself down like that.
“So you can use your good luck and let it rub off on the other players, or maybe that good luck will translate into getting put into the game.”
You stated matter of factly, it didn’t matter to you whether Karasuno won or lost you just wanted him to have fun.
“You gotta play super hard tomorrow if you get subbed in, okay?”
You teased, watching as Sugawara paused seeing your teasing face. He gave a small sigh before agreeing. It was strange, how even just the smallest of words meant so much to him.
He answered, choosing to confide in you. It felt new, even if it wasn’t but you always felt that Sugawara would much rather confide in Daichi or even Asahi more than he would ever in you. But maybe it was different, since they were guys too, or maybe it was because your relationship was so fresh. But still, it made you happy that he would feel comfortable enough to tell you something like this just this once.
“What if I get too distracted by seeing you on the sidelines?”
He asked, watching as your face became blank as you caught onto what you were saying.
“You’re such a bully!”
You huffed, giving him the best glare you could. But your face immedialy softened once you saw how he laughed.
“And here I thought you were about to tell me something so heartfelt, but no! You had to go say that.”
You shrugged, trying to shake off the anger that wasn’t even there. You were just joking with him, for the most part at least.
“I thought you were supposed to be the mature one y’know.”
You grumled, not quite paying atttention as Sugawara closed the gap between you two, making you steady your hands against his chest as you quickly glanced around to make sure there weren’t anyone walking by.
“Can I not just joke around with my girlfriend, just this once?”
Sugawara teased, tilting his head closer to yours, knowing it would catch you off guard.
“Maybe just for today, tomorrow I expect you to be back to the Sugawara everyone knows, ‘kay?”
You relented, you liked when he relaxed like this, truly. It wasn’t even that him acting like that bothered you that much.
“We’ll see.”
You rolled your eyes, hesitating for a moment before leaning up to press a kiss to his cheek.
