Have you been into that bar down the road? It is wall to wall blonde bimbos knocking back alcopops and fluttering their drug store fake eyelashes at the, like, three eligible men in this town. Iâll take crazy cat lady sober over that level of trash any day. At least youâre smart enough to avoid the peroxide bottle blonde and go with something that could even pass as natural, and you seem to have at least some sense of style. Cat hair cardigan excepted.

Cafe Cats - Harlow - 8/10
Okay lady what is with the zillion cats? If your plan is to be single and pathetic your whole life, youâre doing perfect.
âHey, uh, do you by any chance have a light I could borrow? I need a cigarette for my fucking mental sanity right nowâŠâ The girl admitted, letting out a laugh as she tried to spark up a conversation with the other person.â
âIâll give you a light if you give me a cigarette,â Lilith replied to the stranger. She held up her empty packet. âJust finished my last one.â Holding out the light she leaned in until the tip of the girlâs cigarette was glowing. Looking up she gave a smile. âWhat has put your mental sanity in such jeopardy?â
A new city, a new start? Yeah right.
She really shouldnât be surprised that she was here, in a new city, in a new school, starting all over again. Savannah was never going to last, it would have been stupid to think otherwise. She hadnât really expected it to end in fire, but she wasnât surprised that Natural Disaster Lilith had once again destroyed everything.Â
So this place was called Blackburn. Her parents had said something about a friend of a friend getting her a place in the Academy....and that was about all theyâd said. Perhaps this time theyâd finally given up on her. So it was a stranger that drove her in her parents car to the school, and it was a stranger that greeted her and showed her to her room, and it was a stranger that bid her goodnight and shut the door, sealing her in her prison.Â
Alone again. Naturally.Â
âThe mistake youâre making here is thinking Iâve dealt with it. I havenât. I cry myself to sleep every night,â Athena admitted brazenly, taking in a deep breath. Baring her soul felt almost freeing. âI donât anyone to ever feel the way I do, so I do what I can to make people feel happy. That helps⊠a lot. Plus thereâs Lola. I donât know where Iâd be without her,â she continued with a soft tone, eyes brimming with tears. It figured she had to be empathetic and feel so strongly â she saw it as a strength and weakness. âYou have to tear down these walls and let people in. Just existing is a gift and going at it a lone is a waste. Believe it or not, Lilith,â she tilted her head. âI want you to be happy. You deserve more.â
The sensation that came over Lilith as she listened raptly to Athenaâs words was completely foreign. It terrified her. Sheâd locked her eyes on where Athenaâs hand sat on her knee because she knew that if she met the other girlâs eyes she would cry for real. She couldnât let that happen because once she let the dam holding back her feelings crack, there was no going back.
She had no idea to do what Athena was saying. It might as well have been another language for all the sense it made to her. She wasnât like Athena - she didnât know how to be indiscriminately kind and open and good. She wasnât any of those things. If Athena was light then she was dark. The fact that she was killing herself over her own guilt for the same crime that had landed Athena in that chair only proved it.
Abruptly she rose to her feet, dislodging Athenaâs hand. She couldnât accept anything like kindness from the blonde. God, she was a disgusting person for even being able to look her in the eye. Without even looking in her direction she found a tshirt from the pile of crumpled clothes on the floor and pulled it on, turning her back to Athena.
âI wonât fuck some dude in your bed again,â she said blankly. âI wonât come home drunk. I wonât come home high. Youâll barely even see me, I promise.â
