Did you happen to watch Masters of the Universe? As someone who missed the He-Man mania, I wasn't expecting anything other than dumb action and camp but it really surprised me with actually being good and unapologetically earnest at times. Plus the gentle jabs at HR were absolutely hilarious if you've ever had to work in that department. I'm also curious because you mentioned Nicholas Galitzine before and with this movie it seems like he's expanding his brand?
YES! A great summer popcorn movie; colorful, fun, over-the-top-nostalgia, and true to it's genre-blending zaniness. What made the original cartoon so great was it had every genre: medieval fantasy and sci-fi ships and lasers while characters ride dinosaurs. It was silly when it needed to be and serious when it needed to be, an absolute love letter to Master of the Universe fan and every 80ās cartoon cliche you can think of. It definitely wasn't dumb down, but I did feel dumb for taking too long to catch the pronoun reference joke, which was brilliant. And I like how we're not supposed to notice pre-He/Man Adam's buff bod *wink*.
Nicolas Galitzine was great as prince-stuck-on-earth Adam and then He-Man discovering his power and when to use it. Understandably it took time for him to adjust to Eternia after 15 years on earth and the "woke" indoctrination, which was surprisingly one of the movie's funniest scenes that even befuddled Skeletor. Speaking of which, one of the biggest surprise was how good Jared Leto was as Skeletor. Dude, I did not see Skeletor-the-gym-bro coming and now the possibilities are endless.
Nonetheless, Adam's earth's HR training means he knows his way around teamwork and offering his enemy options beyond their black&view motives. Naturally that doesn't always work, okay it mostly doesn't work, but Adam's offer of redemption is genuine and it's up to others' to accept the grace offered by Adam or not.
Nicolas earned his geek cred with original MotU fans and new fans. While the movie is a box office failure, I believe it will be a timeless cult hit, largely thanks to Nicholas' performance. His Adam/He-man has genuine earnest sincerity, innocence, and strength. He deftly handles the self-effacing humor and the raw emotion he must master in order to become a leader. The casting of Nicholas was a masterclass of casting the right person for the job. As silly and unapologetically over-the-top the movie was, it is also the movie that convinced me that Nicolas is leading man material.
Final score: 8.5 out of 10. One point deducted for spending ten minutes too long on earth, and half point deducted for not enough Battle Cat scenes.

I'm on my phone and I'm facetiming Tom (Welling) just to see if he answers. I'm in the front seat, in the passenger seat. And I'm like, "What's up, bud?" And he's on a trip. His wife is driving.
"What do you care, you donāt even like scary movies." "Well, yeah Dean, our life is a scary movie."
