Wait, did he hear her right? She was making him pick? Wow. This was so much freedom. So much power. All jokes aside, though, this was a pretty big deal for him! He almost never got to pick when it came to going on adventures. He always just… accompanied the professor on requests he got in the mail. 

"We should go to the London Eye, then! It’s a big Ferris Wheel of sorts. Most of the people who live here say they get sick of it eventually, but it hasn’t gotten old for me yet!"

"Sounds great! I'm excited to go anywhere with you, Luke." The younger girl nervously looked down, her feet shuffling from side to side. "Just show the way!"

"Y-Yeah, I, uh…" Wow, she was making it really hard for him to be professional right now, jeez, stop saying such sappy things, Lynne! You guys are two, adult, super professional detectives. You need to stop acting like two awkward teenagers who aren’t quite sure how to ask the other out to prom.

"I missed you too!" Congratulations, Luke. You finally said it. "Exchanging letters are one thing, but it’s not quite the same as meeting face to face, is it? But this really is… Wow. I mean, look at you! You’re a detective! And I am too, of course, but uh. Well, you know what I mean."

"Yeah... You look really good." She grinned, leaning against the wall really, very casually. Keep your cool Lynne... You are a professional, not some kind of lovestruck kid, get a grip.

"Ah... So the case." The woman stepped over to his desk, glancing down at the papers on it. "We can catch up later. Over a cup of coffee? But for now, tell me about what we are working with."

Once they walked a bit away from the house she tuned to him and grinned. "Let's go where ever you want to." She gleamed at him, squeezing his hands a bit before letting go. "Anywhere with you sounds amazing." The girl blushed a bit once she realized what she said and gave out an anxious giggle. She was never like this around people. But he wasn't just anyone was he. "Lets go!"

Yeah, wow, it was… It was really her! This was unbelievable. As the shock of the moment began to wore off, one of the young man’s usual, bright smiles fixed itself to his face, just as it did when he was younger. He didn’t think about what he did next. He just ran at her and hugged her really tightly for a few seconds before remembering that, oh. Yeah. They were supposed to be working on a case together?

"S-Sorry, I uh." He paused for a moment to clear his throat after pulling away from her. Let’s try not to be as giddy as we were when we were a little kid, eh? "Ahem. It’s nice to see you, detective."

She could only hug the man back for a second before he moved away. Lynne's cheeks lit up slightly and a nervous giggle spilled out. "I-It's fine Luke... I really missed you." And the woman really did. It was amazing to see both of them fully fledged detectives and everything. "You don't have to call me detective, nerd." She shot him a goofy wink.

"I can't believe we are both here working on a case together. Isn't this what we always dreamed of?" Honestly, what she always dreamed of was being around him when they were older... and here he was.

It wasn’t often that Luke got offered a case in America, but whenever he was, he offered it without a moment’s hesitation. A chance to visit with his parents was always a warm welcome. Besides, he’d made quite a few friends while he’d lived there, as well! 

There was one person he was never expecting to see here, though. Well, not without a warning, at least! Really, what were the chances of Luke running into his penpal while working a case?

"L-Lynne!" Brilliant way to greet an old friend. Stunningly incredible. Fantastic. "I-I mean, well. Hello, I suppose. It’s been… forever! It’s been ages.” Twenty three years old and still he cannot stop running his mouth.

When her supervisor had told her she was being assigned to work with a detective from London, she was a little excited. Though she usually didn't like working with others (they held her down most of the time) she was always open to meeting new faces. She happily walked into the other's office ready to give her welcoming speech. That was until she saw who it was.

"Luke?!" This was quite possibly her first and biggest crush when she was younger. He had been her pen pal for years until they lost touch. He looked so much more grown up... he got even more attractive since she last saw him. "Wow.. y-yeah it has been a long time! It's really great to see you again.." A smile was coming onto her face as it became more real that he was here.

Oh wow, she was pretty nice! And here he was expecting the worst again. Why did he do that, anyway? For an optimist he could be pretty pessimistic at times, jeez. He really needed to stop that. Either way, he offered the woman a small smile as he shook her hand, saying a quick “Hello, nice to meet you!” And- Wait, what was that? What had Lynne’s mother just said to her?

It was whispered, but did he hear that right? Cute? Him? Um, no, if anything he was handsome. Not cute. Being cute was a little kid thing and Luke was THIRTEEN AND A HALF. He couldn’t complain about that, though, no, of course not, because you know what that would be? That would be rude, and being rude is like the complete opposite of being gentlemanly. Being a gentleman is hard. It’s hard and nobody understands.

"Ahem. Well, er- anyway…" Luke stop being such a baby. "I promise we’ll try not to be too long! And I’ll get Lynne back safely, of course…" STOP ACTING LIKE HER BOYFRIEND LUKE YOU DUMMY.

Luke couldn’t help but feel a rush of pride when the girl’s cheeks reddened a bit. That meant she was happy, right? He hoped it did, because all he wanted was to make this girl happy. What was wrong with him, he wasn’t usually all gushy like this.

His pride and excitement took a wrong turn and headed down the road of nervous as heckie when they got to the apartment, though. He was going to meet her mother, right? Uh uh uhhhh wow he hoped she liked him….

The girl ran up to hug her mother before proudly handing her the strawberries. "My new friend Luke helped me!" She exclaimed, pulling him up next to her. The mother raised an eyebrow at the hand holding before smiling sweetly at the boy. "Well it is a pleasure to meet you Luke. I'm Rachel, Lynne's mother." She held her hand out for him to shake before bending down to whisper into Lynne's ear. "He is cute, huh?"

The girl's cheeks burst into crimson flames as she jumped back. "M-mom! Stop it!" She yelled before turning back to Luke shyly. "I was wondering if we could go out and play..."

"No problem! Like my mentor always says, it’s a gentleman’s duty to help any lady in need." Haha, wow, this was really really great. Lynne kind of reminded him of Arianna from back in Misthallery… He wondered why? It definitely wasn’t because he has crushes on both of them if that's what you're thinking. Jeez, how silly would that be? It was probably just because they were both redheads.

"Anyway…" He took a moment to rearrange his hat with his spare hand. Hugging Lynne earlier had knocked it a little out of place, whoops. "Lead the way!"

"A lady, huh?" Her cheeks flushed slightly as she grabbed his hand again, pulling him out the door. "Once we get these to my mama, we can go on the bestest adventures ever!" She let the plastic bag slip onto her wrist as she tugged him across the street. Her house wasn't very far from here and she wanted to show her parents that she had made a new friend!

"Come on!" She giggled, leading him down a small alleyway to a building. She knocked a few times on the door before it cracked open. "Mama!"

"See, I knew we could do it." Yes! Victory, success, mission accomplished, so on and so forth. Well, this was certainly a successful evening, wasn’t it? He’d made a new friend and helped her find a store, too! And didn’t she say they cold explore a bit after she got those berries to her mom? This day was shaping up to be super duper great. Maybe even the best day ever. Well. This week, at least.

Unfortunately, before he could hug the girl back, she was off to the cash register to buy the strawberries. Oh well. Maybe he’d get another hug later if he was lucky. For now let’s just follow your cute new friend over to the cash register and try not to act too dazed.

The girl placed the money her mom gave her on the counter, her head barley reaching over the top. She grinned, taking the receipt and the bag with her berries in it. She walked over to the boy and smiled. "Thanks a lot Luke, couldn't have done it without you!" She took his hand again and lead him out.

"Let's drop these off at my house. Then we can go on more adventures!" Then maybe she could have an excuse to hold his hand more. Maybe even give him another hug! She had taken a liking to her cute british friend and his accent.
