I had just finished the great Gatsby and I- it's such an amazing book ok. So I'm gonna ramble about it now. It pulled me in from the first second and this is gonna go on for some time if I write it normally, so in case you haven't read it yet and don't wanna be spoiled, skip the next part
The very first part. Or as I like to call it, the Gayness of Gatsby
We move on to people being relatable af, aka Gatsby nearly falling down the stairs when cause he was looking at Daisy the whole time, that lady at the piano being dramatic and falling asleep and Jordan being p-paralysed with happiness.
And then there's this part where it's never truly implied what Nick did that night now is it? We only know that one moment he was in the elevator with the guy, and the next...
Yeah.
And then there's this that has the same energy as you hang up first! No, you hang first. No you! You know, as one does when leaving his friend's marvellous garden party.
And the way that Nick describes Gatsby's smile and just Gatsby in general, I can't ok. Because it's just so amazing and so very not straight and I love it. And I will never get over his smile and the time they decided to go for a date, which, as it seems, is always connected to water. First the boat thing and then swimming if I remember correctly.
And oh, to walk around a house, opening big windows and smoke cigarettes out into the darkness, it's the American dream isn't it? Not to even mention the compliment that Nick had given Gatsby and how happy he was when he heard it and not to mention the fact that he missed his train, multiple times, just to stay with Gatsby for some more time.
Now comes the more serious part of stuff
So. Now that that's done and I got it out of my system, can I just- the part when they're driving back from the town and you're slowly realizing what's going on. First Myrtle seeing Tom and Daisy in the yellow car and you're like oh oh, trouble! And then when Tom suggests switching the cars you think nothing of it, really.
And then Myrtle gets killed and you're like oh my god! But still don't think a lot about it, because really, how could that be connected, right? And then a yellow car gets mentioned. And then Tom and Nick and Jordan get closer to the accident site and you just slowly start going oh no. Oh no. Oh no no no no no. And then realize that Myrtle thought it was Tom in the car and not Gatsby and your mind just gets scrambled, don't it?
And the shooting part and how scarily but peacefully in a way that scene is written really got me, cause 'with little ripples that were the shadows of waves, the laden mattress moved irregularly down the pool.'
It's just written with such cold brilliance, or at least to me, and it's amazing and terrifying at once. Because you're not entirely sure at that moment of what had really happened to Wilson and Gatsby. And then you are and it's just oh.
But the saddest part of it all, was when Nick had called so many people and had tried so hard and no one came. Except for owl-eyes, which I find kinda nice.
Anyhow. This book. It is amazing and so brilliantly written, 9/10. 9 because it's sometimes hard to understand the language cause it's written in old English kinda, which is normal. But yeah. It doesn't beat around, it mostly gets straight to the point, and I loved it for that so much.
Oh, and I'm a big fan of Gatsby calling Nick old sport, just cause.
i’m sorry for rambling on for so long, but i really did love it a lot. If you wanna talk about it please send an ask for a dm or anything, cause believe me, i’ll gladly talk about it.
and one final thing. in my opinion, Nick is gay for Jay
