Happy Birthday

I'm thankful to spend so much time with you, though I wish it could be under better circumstances. You’ll understand when you’re older, but I’d be lying if I said I did not dread the day where your father (or maybe even I) would need to explain things to you. But I guess that’s a bridge we’ll cross when we get to it.

Whether it’s watching Big Hero 6 on the couch or taking you out with Auntie - just know that I’ll always be right here. You’re way too smart for your age, but that’s part of what makes you such a gift to be around. It’s kinda funny; I’m glad you’re here...but feel sad that you’re growing up so fast. If you ever need me, I’m never too far for you or any of your cousins.

Be Me for Me

I have to be a lot of things to a lot of people. Whether it be friend, son, brother, cousin, uncle, leader, confidant, coworker, boyfriend, rock, repairman, punching bag, diary, or whatever else - I try to be the best version of that person I can possibly be.

I'm eternally grateful to have such an intricate web of people that I get to share life's experiences with. I have it better than most, a fact I'm well aware of. There is no greater honor than being entrusted with the titles that people give me. With that said...

Please do not take advantage of your relationship with anyone. Don't drag them through the mud because of situations they had no part in. Don't "test" people by telling them to do something, when you really want the opposite. Don't provoke someone, then look at them sideways when it works. Loving and supporting someone isn't situational; you're there for them at all times, not just when the weather is fair. The past year has been a roller coaster: physically, mentally, and emotionally. To be perfectly honest, I'm not off the ride and I don't know when I will be.

Maybe it's my fault for not saying, "no," as often as I should. I guess you have to remember that just because you're willing to do something for someone, doesn't mean you should expect the same courtesy. I guess I need to get better at being me for myself.

When people read your manga, what do you hope they’ll take away from it?

Kishimoto: In real life, it’s hard for people to understand each other because of things like differences in culture or upbringing. As you grow up, you start to see that sometimes things in life don’t go right. But I created Naruto to tell the younger generation that although there’s hardship in life, you can get along. Other than that, I would rather let the audience themselves find out what they can get from Naruto.
