Theo James for Bello Magazine (2013).
“I’m sorry, but we don’t serve minors here,” Jourdan said a little louder than she usually would have. Actually, she normally wouldn’t have turned the kid away if it hadn’t been for her supervisor keenly and not so subtly watching over her during her shift. It wasn’t that Jourdan really cherished working at the institution she was currently in, but it wasn’t like she got first choice in choosing where to bartend; she needed the job. Using her eyes, the blonde tried to signal the man’s presence, but the kid clearly wasn’t picking up on her hints as he kept persisting, even sliding a few measly dollars over the bar. Unable to accept his offer and resisting from screaming in his incompetent face, Jourdan sighed in relief when she saw someone else near the bar. “Okay look, kid, I can’t help you. Besides, I have other customers to attend to.” The bartender went over a little too eagerly toward the person, resting her thin arms on the wood counter. “Please tell me that I can get you something. Anything that’ll occupy me long enough so that the sullen-looking kid over there leaves me alone.”
Alex watched intently as the scene before him unfolded. Damn, kids in Vegas don’t try anymore, he thought to himself.Alex scanned the bar, searching for his usual bartender. He was a man of routine and very few served to his liking despite the simplicity of his order. Looking past the blonde whom stood before him, he continued to search. To no avail was she in sight. Returning his gaze to the beau before him, he expressed, “Yeah. A gin tonic please.” Sizing the blonde’s frame, he stated, “The champ didn’t even try. No fake i.d. huh?” Alex furrowed a brow motioning in the boys direction. “I swear we were smarter in my day” a sigh sauntered from his lips and into the air. Despite the statement making him feel a bit old, Alex downed the remainder of his martini.
lucyxparker:
“Do you always repeat everything people tell you?” she wondered as a smile started tugging at the corners of her lips. “Maybe you could come in and I’ll teach you some ballet as a date,” she joked. “I am, but if you’d rather have me just meet you somewhere that’s fine too.” Lucy tugged at her top that was now clinging to her skin. “It’s nice to meet you.”
“Only if i’m interested or if it’s what I want to hear” Alex winked, tousling his golden hair. “Mm, I don’t dance. A little salsa, but even that’s a stretch.” He stated firmly, softly licking his lips with a grin. “Sounds like a plan. This hotel has an awesome restaurant in its lobby. The Caesar?” Alex quipped. “Nice meeting you too. Hopefully this isn’t the last...” He briefly paused, “ y’know, if you don’t plan on standing me up. 7 ok?”
scarlett-singh:
“Mm,” she hummed softly, her brow furrowing in thought. “How silly of me, yes. To want to rest my eyes on a meaninful piece of art and find escape.” A bitter laugh followed before she looked at the man. “Well, I do recall one exhibition in particular, I think it was called: Rubbers: The Life, History and Struggle of the Condom.“
Alex listened intently before responding, “I get it. I’m actually fairly interested in renaissance art. I have a minor collection hanging around in my living room” he chided before returning the brunette’s gaze. “Really? Never seen it. I’m sure my parents would adore it, they have a bit of a personal tie to it, at least I would say. Considering i’m here.” Sarcasm dripped in the statement as he tousled his golden hair.
rcttenbones:
🥀 –– ❝ ya know. i don’t think i have !! ❞ the brunette tilted her head in thought, still perched on the males back. she wasn’t getting of until they reached the door to the room, choosing to use alex because of her laziness. but really, cecilia just enjoyed it.
❝ whats wrong with your place anyhow ?? how come your stayin’ in this shaby lookin’ place… ❞
“Woah” Alex stifled a chuckle as the elevator chirped, indicating it was his floor. “Have you never been to the Aria hotel?” He furrowed brow even though it was clear she couldn’t see. “My house is having some... renovations completed. Just started moving in, I wanted to get away from the strip” He murmured, swallowing hard. A few doors passed before he was at his room. Unlocking the door with a plain white card, he held the door open for the brunette. Marble floors lined the room and everything had a precise location. Neat and orderly, he announced, “Don’t break anything.” releasing her legs.
xovandermeer:
zoe rolled her eyes with a smile and leaned against the bar, “please, james bond themed? the martini’s been around for much longer than that.” she quipped, taking her drink when the bartender slid it over. she raised an eyebrow in surprise when he asked his question. “since middle school.” she shrugged and shot him a cheeky smile. “safe to say i was a little shocked by the city. but it was more of a good shocked than bad.” she shrugged and picked up her cocktail pick, twirling it around in her glass. “what about you?”
“What? I can’t admire a cinematic master piece and bask in my ignorance, assuming the drink originated from it?”He quipped, intently focused on her lips as she spoke. Furrowing a brow, “Is this how you burst all of you students fantasies?” Dramatically mocking her, he rolled his eyes, “Although I doubt their focused on the lesson” he shrugged a shoulder, lightly nudging the brunette. Alex preferred asking all the questions, rarely was he ever honest about his past. “ I moved here a while ago. Not for any particular reason. Just as anyone comes to the city, looking for fun.”
lucyxparker:
“My ‘whatever’ is teaching private ballet lesson,“ she said, her tone reflecting all the frustration she felt. Lucy raised her eyebrows at his new offer. She hesitated for a moment. Was going out with a stranger really a good idea? Then again, how else was she going to make friends or meet new people. “Okay. That sounds nice. I’ve got to go back to my apartment after this though. I don’t exactly want to go too many places looking like this,” she chuckled. “I should probably introduce myself before I go anywhere with you. I’m Lucy.”
“Apartment, private lesson, yeah I understand.” A devilish grin forming on his lips. He clearly chalked up his own version of the conversation as she spoke. Sizing her small frame, he doubted anyone would be focused on the minor coffee stain. “So does this mean you’re inviting me back to your place? Not even a date first?” He quipped, retrieving his phone and adding her to his schedule. “Well, i’m Alex Lima. Alex or Lima is fine.”
“Wait a minute…” the brunette murmured to herself, a slight surprise causing her to come to a halt in front of the bar with an extremely tacky name. Confusion written all over her face, her gaze lifted and a finger as well, pointing to the neon sign. When she addressed a person near-by, her voice was pensive, she couldn’t help it. “There… Used to be a quaint little art gallery here, didn’t there?”
“This is Vegas baby. Here today, gone tomorrow.” Alex expressed, holding a beer to his lips before taking a sip. “You expect an art gallery to survive in the city of sin? Unless they’re selling sex, it won’t last.” A sly grin garnished his lips as he stared intently at the lights.
gringomorgan:
“I don’t know,” Ollie said, shaking his head rapidly. “I don’t think they were from any rival gangs, man. I think they were just tourist or asshole civilians,” Oliver didn’t know who the guys were. All he knew was that they attacked him and he had killed one of them to save his ass. “I was in the store when they came in with guns,” Ollie started telling him what happened. “Before I knew it, one was … was dead.” His shaky hands held onto the ones clasped to his collar. He squeezed Alex’s hands harshly before letting go. “Look,” Ollie said ripping his collar away from Alex’s grasp, “the cops are probably at the scene now. I need to get inside somewhere so I won’t get caught.”
Alex took a moment to digest the man’s recall of events. “Okay, you’re right. My room at the Aria is a block away.” Alex muttered, motioning towards an alley. He wasn’t accustomed to seeing Oliver flustered. It only caused him to follow suit as he processed what had happened. Clearly rattled, Alex fished around his pockets, searching for his room key. The alley stretched for a few blocks, the perfect concealment as the sidewalk lights dimmed in and out. “Did you have any weapons? Did you touch anything? Do you still have you wallet? Anything that could lead them to you?” He rattled off his thoughts, thinking of any connections he had at the department should Oliver left a trace.
lucyxparker:
Lucy couldn’t believe the man had stopped to apologize. “Yeah, yeah.” Being from New York, she was used to being knocked into and pushed around. Typically, she was the one pushing others out of her way. “Thanks, but I don’t have time to get another. I’ve got a class to teach in ten minutes, and looks like I’ve already got to teach in coffee stained clothes.” Her face was getting hot purely from the embarrassment. The pedestrians passing by were starting to stare. “This really is the cherry on top of a fantastic morning.”
A small chuckle escaped his lips, “I know those mornings all too well.” He chimed with a small nod. Alex placed the bill back into his wallet. Recently, his entire day was a series of unfortunate events. From a car accident to a bar fight, luck wasn’t in his favor. “I know it doesn’t matter much coming from a stranger but my offer will still stand. How about I make your evening better? After your... whatever, i’ll take you out?” His offer was genuine, despite the betrayal of his grin. Vegas was small town and he’d rather be acquittances than building enemies.
rcttenbones:
🥀 –– ❝ why yes. yes it is llama. is it doing things for you ?? ❞ cecilia giggled, wiggling her eyebrows in a playful yet suggestive manner. a small gasp of surprise left her lips at the sound of screeching tires. along with alex, she too threw cusses at the driver, even adding a middle finger. people were reckless. but then again, so was she.
❝ precious cargo ?! who knew you thought so highly of me llama !! ❞ cecilia added fake tears to be more dramatic.
“Not often so appreciate it while you can.” Alex utilized his usual entrance into the Aria through a back stairwell. Briefly smiling at the sound of her voice, he entered an elevator. “Have you been over before?” he raised an eyebrow questioningly. Alex was temporarily rooming at the Aria while a few fixes were being made at home. He usually doesn’t mix business and his personal life, his home life was extremely private, but he sort of considered Cecilia a friend.
rcttenbones:
🥀 –– cecilia scoffed right back at him while she was still hanging onto alex. she adored piggy back rides, and if it made her seem childish she was perfectly okay with that. loving to tease him and annoy him just as much, cecilia grabbed his face, turning it so she could plant a big wet one on his cheek. ❝ if i didn’t know any better llama, i’d say you’re pretty jealous of them. besides. you can be my new favorite. as for burning down you’re home. it’s not gonna happen, unless of course you’re into fire play. ❞ cecilia snorted, laughing at her own joke.
“Is this foreplay?” He cooed, an illusive grin occupying his lips as he stopped at a crosswalk. “I’ll need to experiment with it, i’ll add it to my list of kinks. And I know the perfect person.” A car barely stopped as he began crossing. “Hey! I have precious cargo with me.” He adjusted Cecilia on his back before continuing to walk.
lucyxparker:
Lucy was running late as usual. She was shoving the rest of her clothes in the duffel bag draped over her shoulder. “Get out of my way,” she mumbled as she pushed past people on the strip. She held her mug full off coffee over her head to avoid spilling it on anyone. She didn’t need any angry Las Vegans this early. Somehow, she managed to find a break in the crowd. “Move it!” she snapped at anyone who happened to get in her way. She could see the door to the studio just a few feet ahead. She stopped for a moment to zip her bag. As soon as she glanced down, someone slipped past her and bumped her shoulder. Her drink slipped from her hands and clattered on the sidewalk. “Fuck me,” she said a little too loudly. “This is the last thing I need this morning.”
Alex slipped on his shades. The Vegas sun was already beaming down on the strip, all too early for his liking. “Listen, I just need this done by Saturday.. I don’t care how you get it done.” He spoke directly into the phone, anger lacing the statement. Brushing past patrons on the strip, he didn’t care if he collided with a few shoulders until he heard something hit the floor. Looking back abruptly, he watched as a brown liquid covered the sidewalk. Rolling his eyes, Alex should have kept walking but was against his better instinct. “I’ll call you back” He muttered into the phone. “Listen i’m sorry. I can pay for your next one,” He quickly pulled out his wallet revealing a ten dollar bill.
rcttenbones:
🥀 –– a small gasp and a horrifying look fell on her face before she a pout replaced it. she growled at alex before jumping on his back, wrapping her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist. her grip on him tightening slightly. ❝ NOOO LLAMA !! you can’t just leave me alone. what if i end up alone –– i thought we were best friends !! come on i’ll cook you something just don’t leave me !! ❞ cecilia cried out. again, being dramatic.
Scoffing immediately at the sound, ‘best friends..’ “I’m sure one of your daddies will be looking out for you.” He continued walking towards the hotel. “What are you scheming? So you can burn down my home?” Squinting his eyes at her.
