shout out to project hail mary for being a platonic romantic movie. like. Like. every other scene with eva or rocky harks deeply on romantic tropes. rocky and grace pressing their faces together through the xenonite. grace going to find eva on the deck of the ship, being the only one who looked for her. the dance between the blip-a and the hail mary when they first connect tunnels. eva telling grace she believes in him like a prayer. rocky being bossy and impassioned and grace being exasperated but also adoring it. the entire karaoke scene, the cuts to graces smile while she sings. rocky screaming at grace to Get The Fuck Inside during the taumeoba mission. and its a lovestory abt platonic love. at no point does the movie imply either of these relationships should be or are romantic. but they are love stories. Lowers my body into the marsh.

We need more stories like this, about love and human connection that are not necessarily romantic/sexual (which of course are always linked, but that is another story). Yeees, Eva and Grace. Grace and Carl!!

No wonder the aroace community is embracing the movie so much (including myself) and headcanoning Grace as aroace. But that's not the question. He could be whatever. We need more stories that present platonic love as important and intense as romantic love, and show that one can be perfectly happy and fulfilled without romance. Because that's just... true. And important to be told. For everyone.

And Ryan Gosling acting is just perfection. His faces ugh.

I just watched Project Hail Mary for the second time and it’s the “we watch each other sleep” and the “you just need to find someone to be brave for” and Grace writing “who would you die for” on his whiteboard and “Two of Us” playing while Grace is going to Rocky’s aid and his face when they reunite, when he realizes he has succeeded and they are going to be alright. It’s Grace not ending up on Earth after finding out he didn’t choose to save his people and instead ending up with the one he willingly sacrificed himself for. It’s it’s it’s- 😭​
