Introduction Post

Hii!!! I'm Ivy, also known as Li Mei's #1 fan. I originally came from tiktok, where I started posting mk edits roughly a year ago as of this post. Finally mustered the courage to branch out a little. (𖦹﹏𖦹;)

Disclaimer, I don't really know the ins and outs of posting on tumblr. I'm mostly just imitating what I've seen other creators do.

Anyways, below are four sections: About Me (Personal), About Me (Mortal Kombat Related), Boundaries, and Tags!

About Me (Personal)

During my time on tiktok I realized nobody really knows anything about me, so I figured I should share a little bit about myself. Here goes!

As stated before, my name is Ivy. I don't think tumblr has a pronoun function like tiktok does, so I'll state it here: I don't care what pronouns are used for me, refer to me however you like.

I'm currently 17 and studying for my GED as I've been homeschooled.

Outside of MK, I have a few other interests, which include:

・Pusheen

・Cats (the animal, not the movie)

・Elnea Kingdom

Expect these three to be combined with MK from time to time, I love combining my interests. •͈ᴗ•͈

I wasn't sure where to go from here so take some fun facts about me!

My favorite color is purple (which comes as an extreme shock, I'm sure.)

While cats are my favorite animal, manatees and seals are a very close second and third.

I like collecting! I have a small storage box for crystals and gems, I have an overflowing net of plushies hanging from a window, too many miscellaneous figurines to count, an entire jewelry cabinet, and various doohickeys.

I'll listen to basically any music ever as long as it has a funky beat and isn't hateful.

I LOVE Halloween. And Autumn in general. It's my favorite season.

I like baking as a hobby, but I don't get to do it much.(๑•́︿•̀๑) I also like coloring books. Just started a 100-page Pusheen one as of writing this.

I have an orange cat with three legs and a short, crooked tail. I love him so much it feels like I'm going to explode sometimes...even when he bolts out the front door the second it's open. All I do is love him why does he do that.

I have a very firm "It's ALWAYS that deep." and "As long as it's not hurting anybody, who cares?" mentality.

About Me (Mortal Kombat Related)

Unfortunately, I'm a newgen fan. Even worse, what got me into mk in the first place was johnshi edits showing up on my fyp around the time MK1 came out.

But I've gotten way more into the lore since. While I mainly talk about MK1, I'm open to talking about the other games as well. I actually really like the third generation games too! Deception specifically holds a special place in my heart. MKX is great, too.

I know this will probably make me sound like even more of a fake fan, but I don't play the games. Fighting/combat-based games just aren't for me, personally. I'm content to sit back and watch someone else do it. And even if I did like it, I don't have the money to buy said games.

Outside of the games, I'm sad to say I haven't seen any other type of media like movies or shows as of writing this. I'd like to, but I don't know where to start...(´•̥ω•̥｀)

While Li Mei is my favorite character, I love plenty of others as well. In fact, I don't hate a single MK character. They're all too interesting to me.

Though the main groups I pay attention to are from Outworld, or just not from Earthrealm, generally speaking.

Sinmei and Tanleena are my OTPs, but I can't say I dislike any ship as long as its not problematic. I'm a multishipper through and through!

Boundaries

I originally wrote an entire long list for the DNI section, but looking over it, I saw most of it boiled down to being hateful of something harmless. Whether its something small like alternative styles, or something more extreme like POC, I don't want that on here. I try to be accepting as possible, and I expect the people I surround myself with to do the same.

Though, there were a few that didn't fit this category, which I'll list below:

I wonder what Kai’s animality would’ve been in MK1, but I personally think it would've been a fox just based on vibes for some reason, since Kung Lao obviously took the tiger for his animality.

I'm actually working on a post of what animalities some of the MK1 kameos would have, had they gotten them, so this ask is really nice to get! Even if Kai isn't actually included in the game...

Anyways, maybe I'm just biased towards the cute lil guys, but I like to think his animality should be an okapi, the cute fellas shown below. (I tried to put the photo directly below this paragraph but tumblr refuses to cooperate for some reason...it's at the bottom of the post if you wanna take a look before you continue reading.)

They're the only known still-living relative of the giraffe (although they're endangered :() and their only habitat is the Congo Basin, located in Central Africa, I believe.

Do not be fooled, I did not pick the okapi just because of its white stripes! (Though it definitely was a big factor.) I think their behavior is also a bit similar to Kai's.

They prefer to live life in solitude, and are not very aggressive, avoiding conflict as much as possible. They're known to be very gentle and shy animals, but also incredibly intelligent and sensitive to their surroundings.

For a long time they were known as the unicorn of Africa, as it was so rare to spot one they were thought a legend. Even in modern day they're hard to study in the wild, being very elusive.

Their symbolism (which I'm VERY big on when it comes to animalities) varies greatly, but its spiritual symbolism fits Kai the best, I think. Speaking of which, the okapi represents inner peace, awareness, and the ability to navigate unseen paths.

See where I'm coming from? Kai screams okapi to me, and I hope you can see why ૮ ˶ˆ ﻌ ˆ˶ ა as for how he'd actually kill his opponent in his animality...I fear I didn't think that far ꒰ᐢ´ඉᯅඉᐢ꒱ let's try to use our imagination for that part.

Oh, but please take everything I just said with a grain of salt. I did do research, but I am no expert on these cuties. Your best and first source should be professionals, definitely not me (՞ •̥㉦•̥՞)

Also, about what I said about the kameo animalities post at the beginning, please do NOT expect that anytime soon. I am a very slow worker, though I'm sure you already knew that (´-ι_-｀) but it will come out eventually! When exactly, I have no idea, though...

Don't worry, it totally makes sense. I have a few ships of my own I don't really like but enjoy the dynamic of. Nightwolf x Kano has now also become one of them (ಡωಡ)

Alright, toxic ship idea, Nightwolf x Kano, walk with me for a sec

So in Nightwolf’s ending, we get his backstory and it reveals him at his lowest point and Kano takes advantage of that, promising Nightwolf lots of money for giving him his tribe’s artifacts and basically trying to recruit him into the black dragon, but at the last second Nightwolf changes his mind and betrays Kano. That’s how it starts and even in their intros with one another, Nightwolf acknowledges Kano with malice, and in return Kano matches his energy a little bit, patronising him unsurprisingly and seeming kind of upset that Nightwolf isn’t in the black dragon with him while kind of defending Nightwolf’s actions in one intro.

Kano’s Intro examples: ‘You were a mess when I found ya’ ‘I could’ve made you bloody rich’ ‘It’s no crime making bank’ ‘Oh, I always get what I want.’

Which sounds like a lot of unresolved tension…on Kano’s side at least and I also think this ship works better with Revenant!Nightwolf x Kano

No need to apologize!! I may take a while to answer sometimes but trust I'm never ignoring or getting tired of you ( ⸍ɞ̴̶̷ ·̫ ɞ̴̶̷⸌ 🫶) I'm just incapable of getting things done in a reasonable time frame. Anyways, onto what we're actually here for!

I took a LONG time thinking about this one. This is one of the pairings I had a much harder time getting a grasp of, but I think I got there in the end.

Usually I can't see Nightwolf liking Kano in any shape or form whatsoever. I feel the only way I could see him liking the other is if Kano played the long game. Acting like his friend, being charitable, becoming "close" before he pulled his little stunt. Even if Nightwolf was at his lowest at the time, it's hard for me to see him agreeing to something like that easily.

So yeah, Kano lures him into a false sense of security like the manipulator he is. Of course, we're still sticking to canon, so despite this, Nightwolf turns his back on him.

In my mind, Nightwolf, even after long since abandoning Kano, still kinda misses him, and hates himself for it. Kano was there for him when no one else was, even if it was all just an act. That period of time he spent with him would be like a bittersweet nostalgia to him, I think.

Which leads me to the dynamic I've been thinking of; Kano is somehow aware of how Nightwolf feels about their past and takes advantage of it. Acts all friendly with him like he used to. Nightwolf would see through this very easily of course, but that doesn't stop the ache in his chest whenever Kano does so. It brings him back, and sometimes he wishes they could be like that again. He'd never allow himself that, though. Not with Kano. Never with Kano.

Definitely very doomed and angsty. Lots of "what ifs" and "what could've beens" happening with these two, mostly on Nightwolf's side though. Kano, the bastard he is, just wants a valuable asset back. He doesn't mind if something more intimate gets involved along the way. He's always found Nightwolf attractive. That's just a bonus to him.

Now, if we're talking about Revenant!Nightwolf...

We're also straying a bit from canon here. I like to think the Revenants are still the same people they used to be at their core, it's just all their worst traits have been dialed up to 11. Nightwolf, even as a Revenant, still just wants the best for the Matoka. Only now, he's willing to use the worst of methods he originally refused to use to get what he wants. If Kano gets involved along the way somehow, then so be it. (The past they share definitely doesn't help in his decision-making.)

Horrifically evil and toxic together. Kano only encourages and supports Nightwolf's behaviors, which gets his appreciation in return, which makes Nightwolf stay, but they still have differing goals and perspectives at the end of the day, so it's a very bumpy road. Lots of fighting, likely both verbal and physical, involved. It's an endless toxic cycle for these two. Yet they never stay away for long.

Okay wow that was a lot of yapping (lll⚆ᗜ⚆) sorry if this isn't what you had in mind, it's just like I said at the beginning. I can't see Nightwolf holding any sort of affection for Kano in complete canon. We gotta twist things up a little bit to get there.

Not as proud of this one as I was Johnny's. I didn't know how to make the shadow fading in transparent, so it's stuck with that white background in the early frames (¬_¬") It isn't horrible though, which is enough for me.

Anyways, next up is Baraka. I've been procrastinating on working on him, let's hope it's not as troublesome as I'm anticipating (๑•﹏•)⋆* ⁑⋆*

Don't worry, it was very intentional (*ˊᗜˋ*) and I'm very happy someone caught it! When I was first trying to come up with a username, I really wanted it to be some sort of pun. I also wanted it to include Li Mei in some way since I love her.

I was drinking strawberry lemonade while thinking about it, and somehow my brain made the connection that omg, li mei, lemon...they kinda sorta sound similar...

Which is how it was born. Didn't include the strawberry part as I like the regular version too.

Btw making this post made me realize I haven't drank any lemonade in a while, so I went to get some from the fridge, and then got sad cuz I don't have any rn ՞߹ - ߹՞ so yes the "lover" part applies to both Li Mei and the refreshing beverage

I’m kinda obsessed with Kai rn and I just want to talk about him and his striped body paint.

So, in a redesigned version of Kai in the newer games, they could transform his stripes into vitiligo markings, or a more interesting design would be more intricate glowing tattoos that follow the patterns of his stripes, like Fujin and Liu Kang had in MK11, as some kind of right of passage amongst the monks, or as a successor to becoming a protector of Earthrealm.

Sorry for rambling but these were my thoughts on how they could redesign Kai in MK1 and make it a little bit interesting😅

The glowing tattoo thing seems to be for Gods only, as the only characters ever shown with it (as far as I'm aware) are Fujin, Raiden, and Liu Kang. Although, he can just have regular, non-glowing tattoos with white ink. Including the whole right of passage thing from your ask, it could make a nice backstory for his markings. Especially if it's not for monks just starting out but for like, advanced positions if that makes sense. Maybe only "masters" (as he's referred to in Ashrah's intro dialogues) have the body paint?

Now I'm fr imagining it and I'm despairing over the fact I can't telepathically transport the image in my head onto the screen. I think he already really suited the simple stripe-like markings, but turn them into more detailed tattoos?

But maybe that's just because I'm a sucker for tattoos. Whatever, he'd still look good with them, bias or not 𐔌՞⁔ෆ ̫ ෆ⁔՞𐦯

Yo, sooo… I think I discovered a rare pair ship… Ashrah x Kai

For some reason it makes sense in my head😭

I needed a moment to think about them when I first saw this ask and now that I have....I can see it!

Kai, in the original timeline at least, wanders the realms in search of enlightenment, while Ashrah does the same, but for purification/redemption. In a sense, they're both on a journey for the meaning of life, with Kai searching for his, and Ashrah having found hers and now working towards it.

Maybe on their seperate journeys they somehow cross paths and get to know each other, and it just progresses from there. I see these two as a ship on the fluffier side (outside of Ashrah's past with the Netherrealm, then it's more-so hurt/comfort), what with their goals and perspectives and all. Probably a good old fashioned strangers to friends to lovers, which I'm always up for.

If we're talking about the newest timeline where Kai is a teacher at the Wu Shi, they still have a good dynamic. With how much he gets mentioned in her intro dialogues, it sounds like he has a good, if not close, relationship with Ashrah. It's the mentor/mentee trope, which usually I don't care for, but these two could make it very cute. Kai welcomes Ashrah to the Wu Shi, and Earthrealm, with open arms, teaching her not only fighting techniques and the Shaolin monks ways of life, but about Earthrealm in general. Assuming he still originates from America like in his past appearance, he wouldn't have a more closed off view of the world like other monks who've spent their entire lives with the Shaolin, and could share plenty of stories with Ashrah.

And Ashrah could maybe do the same! They won't be nearly as lighthearted, but she could teach him about the ways of the Netherrealm, what life was like there. Kai strikes me as a very curious but sympathetic guy. He'll want to hear all about what she has to say, but he won't hesitate to comfort her when it comes to harder times.

Through sharing stories like these they could bond outside of their teaching sessions, and become good friends. Just like their past appearance, they've got the strangers to friends to lovers trope, and they make it extremely cute!

I feel they understand each other even on a deeper level. Granted, I'm just making this up, but in my eyes, MK1 Kai had the same journey of searching for enlightenment across the realms like his past iteration did, he just did so when he was younger. Now he's older and wiser. Maybe he never even found the answer, but he's content with his life among the monks now.

And when he's with Ashrah, he feels he's closer than ever before to seeing what he thought he'd never be able to. She really opens his eyes to new perspectives, and he loves that.

As for Ashrah, she feels like she finally has a place she can call home when she's with Kai. Don't get her wrong, the entire Wu Shi is her home now, but she only feels truly understood when with him. He knows what its like to go on what feels like a neverending journey, searching for something he may never even be able to reach. He's someone she can relate to, even if only a little. Which I doubt she'd ever expect to find.

Idk. Maybe I'm just rambling and this makes no sense. I'm not the best with words, and I feel it very much shows towards the end there, but I wanted to get my thoughts out (๑•﹏•)⋆* ⁑⋆* I hope this is coherent. And thanks for the ask, anon! I love thinking about something I'd never considered before, even if its just a ship.

Another edit has arrived...

I wanted different transitions for both the clips and text but everyday capcut decides to make another previously free feature a premium one and everyday my rage with this hellhole of an app grows. I seriously need to check out videostar like one comment mentioned.

I really wanted to include my queens Li Mei and Sindel in here but I listened to the full song and wanted the characters to match the story each singer has, and unfortunately, there was always someone else that fit them better than my two faves ՞߹ - ߹՞ oh well. There's always the next edit.

It's a shame the first MKT animation meme I'm posting is an incomplete one, but I was getting really stressed towards the end and didn't want to burn myself out. Something is better than nothing, after all. So here it is.

Before I started stressing I was having a lot of fun working on this and learning new skills along the way, which I think actually shows the further into the video you go. Maybe one day when I'm better at this I can remake this vid in full. Until then, I'm pretty satisfied with what's here.
