Ok, here is the tutorial.
1st photo + 2nd photo: The very basic color I usually use for skin: yellow ish first coat (you might want to use ‘ochre’ in certain watercolor set), then crimson accent (i tend to use the reddish color tending towards pink). They will create a nice orange for skin tone.
Mix the colors with different ratio. Let some part more pinkish and others more yellowish. We will still understand that it’s the same skin color when we look at it, but a nice and ‘colorful’. That’s the trick. If you want to color something purple, you’d want to use red and blue instead of the ready made purple. Unless it’s your intention, you don’t want your colors to be monochromatic.
Don’t panic if you make it darker than intended at this point. Chances are that it’ll look ok when the surrounding has been colored.
Leave the skin be and come back to shade it later after having done a bit of other parts. That will give you ideas of what color to use.
3rd photo: I use the same yellow for the hair. And for it to look more brown than blond, I mix purple in.
For shading, the easiest way is to mix another color in to make it darker. I’d avoid black at all cost though. Use a color that will be in the picture. For example, I will use purple and ochre for the bow, so I mix that same purple in the hair and later use it to shade the skin.
This is just stylistic choice but I prefer to make the base color ‘pooly’, so that it will have a ‘watercolor’ feel. To do that you have to keep the density of your color uneven. After filling the color when it’s still a bit wet, drop water or diluted color here and there to create the texture and fringes. Then when it’s already dried, use thick and dark color to do the shading, as neat as you can. There’s a video for that step here.
Also, if you ever want to take a color out, wash over it with clean water then use tissue to suck it out. do it quick and small part a time. but try not to do that too much though.
