I took this portrait of my mom last summer. For years she resisted and asked "Why?" when I asked take her picture. Moments like this are why. She saw this photograph and said "Wow." She has begun to see herself through my eyes. Last Summer // 2014
Since I was a small child I insisted on making art - forever - while most people told me I was going to fuck up my life because of it. Growing up in the sticks pushed me towards cameras. I instinctually strived to create alternate realities to elevate my situation and ultimately escape it. The funny thing is a camera brought me back when nothing else could. Trust your gut (even if you're "just" a kid). Eventually it will make sense. Last Summer // 2014
