Sometimes you just wanna draw a pirate father-son duo just being amazing sometimes, Ya know?

(I shall thank Jojo's linked universe comic in this chilies tonight, for the absolute blessing that is known as Wind’s outfit design-)

yeah linebeck is interesting because in cutscenes he’s pretty animated and out there and his ego, cowardice, and greed are really set to an 11 (because those are plot-heavy scenes where those traits are brought out with the threat of demons, the promise of treasure, and people around him questioning his status as a sailor/adventurer). but any dialogue outside of those cutscenes, he’s grounded, supportive and hella respectful to link (contrary to his stereotype, he doesn’t call him ‘kid’ or anything like that. he calls him by his name and treats him like an adult. any time there’s a sea monster/boat battle mechanic he’s pretty brave and works well as a team with link if the in-battle dialogue is anything to go by.) any time he’s rude or snarky, it’s ciela who initiates it. linebeck’ll be like “uh link you got this covered” and ciela will be like “YOU COWARD” and linebeck will THEN get rude and defensive. 

i get defensive over linebeck. his character is horribly misread and misinterpreted imo. it even feels like the game itself is too hard on him, more than he actually deserves. thought i guess its because in a game about adventure and courage, the most unlikable character is gonna be the guy with a good head on his shoulders who is understandably scared of unfathomable evil and terrifying monsters when he has no combat skills and just wants to ride his freaking boat in peace. 

(honestly when he’s first introduced he was asking about the ghost ship and went into a cursed temple all alone, having done his research and having a strategy to getting through, but just got stuck in a trap, so him being a 100% coward is something im not buying. as soon as astrid says how the quest for the ghost ship will be difficult and full of darkness/evil, he was visibly terrified but he still pursued the ghost ship because of link [and possible treasure] needing to rescue his friend. so he may be a coward but he faces his fear when necessary. it just so happens that link is overly competent and extremely brave that linebeck has no need to face his fear most of the time.)
