For the people who don’t know: the drink is a Michelada, a mexican beer cocktail featuring beer, ice, lime juice, salt, and an assortment of sauces. In this case it is called kittychela because of the hello kitty bottle with chamoy or tamarind sauce at the top with some gummies as decoration. 🤌

Julian Waking Up

When Julian wakes up, it's slow. He's sleeping so good these days, and depending on the morning it could be his partner in bed with him, possibly their kids, almost certainly their dog. He doesn't want to wake anyone up, he just wants to bask in it for a bit. This is normalcy. This is love. It's real, and it's his.

When he finally disentangles himself and goes to freshen up, it starts as a hum. Quiet, so as not to wake anyone. But he can't help himself, and gradually it builds. When his partner greets him downstairs with breakfast and black coffee, they're singing what he was singing and he sheepishly realizes he must have gotten quite loud.

Everyone eats together. Julian wants to hear what they've got planned for the day, what they dreamed about. He wants to kiss everyone good morning and have a mini pirate battle over pancakes.

Before work, he goes for a walk with the dog. He wants to see if he remembers all the old escape routes, the bolt holes, the hidden entrances. He tells himself it's to keep his mind sharp, but really, he wants to delight in how the city is coming alive again. He wants to greet his neighbors, check on his friends, see the sun coming up over HOME.

Before work, one last look around, hugs and kisses before everyone leaves.

He is finally, truly happy.
