Despite Harry’s protests, and the fact he had the bravery to refute the Hat’s opinion, Harry was sorted into Slytherin at the shock of almost all in attendance – the Boy Who Lived? A Slytherin? It was a deep shock for Minerva McGonagall, who had hoped he would join her house, of concern to Dumbledore who knew his history and state of being, and of great chagrin to Draco Malfoy and Severus Snape.         Though a legacy of dark wizardry and ambition was placed on his shoulders, Harry would go on to defy all expectations of the Slytherin house – he was cunning without targeting others, he was clever yet without the ambition to put it to use, and he was courageous and open-minded among a sea of primarily elitist cohorts.         Yet even in spite of this, it caused problems for him, particularly during the course of his second year and the revelation of his ability to speak Parseltongue, and his frequent clashes with Snape proved detrimental to his ability to function properly as a student of Slytherin house, often prompting Hermione Granger to go over his head and inform Professor McGonagall of these issues.
