I wish people would understand that not everything is for everyone to get. you will be left out of some conversations, a lot of art will not apply to you, you will not like things that people you like enjoy, and just because you cannot add to the topic of discussion or relate does not mean that it is not valued or worthwhile. the internet has coddled people to such a concerning extent that everyone feels like they need to vocally disagree with something just because they don’t get it. Knowing something, and genuinely getting it are not the same. NOT EVERYTHING IS FOR YOUUUUU

i looooove characters who are sacrificial lamb coded. characters who have never lived for themselves. characters born to be a tool, a weapon, a sacrifice, all of the above. a character raised by the heroes to save the world, at any expense, even their own health, even their own life. a character raised by the villains to end the world, at any expense, even their own health, even their own life. characters who are denied personhood so they can be used as tools instead. characters who never even had a chance to be people because they were shaped into something else from the moment they were born. characters who were born to die.

The villification of Elektra needs to stop…all arguments I’ve seen are so bad faith and disingenuous- people painting her out as this emotionless toxic lady that keeps forcing Matt to abandon his normal life, which makes me wonder if the people touting this narrative finished watching the show, or stopped after 2 episodes after Elektra arrived. Because by the end of Daredevil S2, she literally dissuades Matt from abandoning his life in Hell’s Kitchen when he said he was ready to leave it all for her? Matt talks about how he’s never really went past his few blocks in Hell’s Kitchen, and Elektra reiterates that it’s because he loves New York and Hell’s Kitchen too much to actually abandon it for her.

The “Elektra is toxic” narrative is so weird because it literally just disregards her character arc, but also is so blatantly in bad faith especially when it comes from those who frame Karen as the opposite ‘good’ side of the spectrum, when she was equally as “toxic” to Matt when you think about it (Foggy too). If we’re gauging “toxicity” by measure of how much they’re forcing Matt to be who he isn’t, then how are people not mentioning Karen and Foggy refusing to accept that Daredevil is part of who Matt is? They immediately resorted to treating him as if he was an addict, instead of at least trying to hear out his motivations for vigilantism. And I know Matt has lied and kept secrets but at that point he deserves the grace to be heard out at least once, especially when Karen herself were keeping secrets. Let’s try to be fair here, at least.

I feel like it’s so understated that Karen and Foggy not accepting Matt being compelled to be Daredevil is as disheartening to Matt as Elektra wanting Matt to abandon his day life is, yet all I ever see from this fandom is the chastisement of Elektra- the discourse in this fandom is so one-sided, but I know that Elektra isn’t a popular character among Netflix DD fans (unfortunately) so that’s probably why it’s the case. But we literally witness how much Matt is disheartened by the lack of Karen and Foggy’s acceptance when we see how much he finds solace in Jessica’s understanding of him and his story during Defenders. And when Matt declares to her and Luke about how he’s glad they found each other (and even wanting that hug from Luke, lol).

TL;DR: If people keep addressing how 'toxic’ Elektra is for not accepting both of Matt’s identity then people need to keep the same energy for Karen and Foggy 🤷

Sorry for the long rant, I’m just tired of seeing the word tOxiC in the Elektra/MattElektra tags

Elektra goes from:

believing she and Matt are the exact same, a warrior power couple going to conquer the world (college)

to realizing the life she leads is not at all for him and respecting that (leaving him alone for 10 years, being HAPPY she failed)

to finding out he’s Daredevil/doing vigilantism after all and thinking AGAIN they are the same (her return)

to realizing the Lawyer Stuff isn’t just a convenient cover for his true calling like the “Fancy Person” cover is for her as a Chaste operative (Matt making it clear his friends and career are important to him - which again, she respects)

to being willing to walk away from the life she’s known when he gives her a moment of understanding and opportunity

to then joining him on what they perceive as a suicide mission because it is the right thing to do to save the hostages even if it costs them their lives, and is a big blow to the Hand in the process. And because she can’t let him go in there alone.

She knows him well, but she doesn’t know everything when she comes back. She assumes things incorrectly many times, but at the end of the day Elektra doesn’t want Matt to give up what’s important to him. People say Elektra only wants Daredevil and it’s so annoying because she fell hard in love with a cheesy college kid with a fighting spirit, way before any of that.

She loves his heart, his perspective inspires her and challenges her, and if she finds his lawyer stuff inconvenient or pointless at times, that’s not the same as urging him to abandon it.

Matt Murdock: Hey, I’ve never been further north than 116th Street, so…

Elektra Natchios: Because you love this city.

Matt Murdock: And I’d give my life for it, but… there’s one thing in this world that makes me feel more alive. And that’s you.
