I think it’s funny how the manhwa characters are different from the novel. I mean, for example, novel Claude is waaaay less stoic.
And in the manhwa, Lucas is 100% smug, but in the novel he is
SUPER

After being assigned as Athanasia’s friend, he read a book about how to make friends and frienship. When Athy was mad to him because he sent her to the Alpheus estate for the first time, he told her something like “I really thought you wanted to go! Don’t be mad, I put a lot of protection spells on you so wouldn’t get hurt. I promise that I won’t do it again. In my book it’s said that when you swear something to a friend, you must do it with all your heart, so you have my word. *shows her the images on his book*”

After their dances sessions (because YES Lucas was Athy’s dance partner until she was 14), he helped her untie her shoes and massaged her feet. If that ain’t the purest thing in the world...
Also, in the novel, there is a whole ceremony for Athanasia’s debut: she has to pass an exam to prove that she is a worthy heir and that she deserves the royal name, and there is a “religious” ceremony with a priest(?) and a wizard of the Black Tower (Lucas representated the Black Tower and swore allegiance to Athanasia as a princess). He looked very proud of her during the whole thing.
When Lucas tells her that he must go away for a few months to find the World Tree, Athanasia cries telling him that she’s his friend, and he also cries, telling her that he is also her friend and that he swears to come back.
