I think a lot of the discourse around Fours arc stems from people ignoring post split, while it it’s bad, it did lay the groundwork for him in Tpot, in BfB 30 he realized that people will like him even if he doesn’t force them to, which is why he’s so much more mellow after that, he knows people will be his friend even if they don’t fear him

I also believe he was trying to protect Pencil in Tpot 19, he saw what happened with One, and it’s shown in Tpot 20 that he subconsciously feels guilty about sealing One in the moon, he didn’t want that to happen to anyone else, that’s why he was telling Pencil she shouldn’t have that much power, obviously Four isn’t a good person but I think he can change
