So a few people have asked me how I make typography style gifs so I thought I would make a bit of a tutorial
Disclaimer: I taught myself how to use photoshop so I don’t really know the names of anything
1. So first you want to open photoshop (I use CS5) and open a new document. Most of the gifs I make are 500 x 200 px so that’s how big the document is going to be.
2. Next you’re going to want to put some colour on the blank document using the little bucket tool and for this type of gif you’re also going to want to add some words using the type tool. It should look something like this (But with whatever colours and words that you want):
3. Now for this tutorial we’re just going to make the letters of a particular word appear in sequence. To do this we need to use the type tool to highlight all of the letters except for the first one and change their colour to the same as the background, making them invisible. Like this:
4. Save that as a .png or .jpg making sure to label it as 1. Now highlight the second letter using the type tool and change the colour of it back to that of the first letter. Save this as 2 and continue for every other letter, making sure to save them all in the same location. You should get a whole bunch of files like these:
5. You can now close that first document. After that I open all the saved documents back in photoshop and drag them all into one layer. There is apparently an easier way of doing this using File->Scripts->Load Files Into Stack, but that doesn't work on my computer for some reason. Once all the layers are in the same file it should look like this:
6. Now select all of your layers (either using right click->Select all layers or by shift clicking), and in the animation panel (make sure that’s open btw window->animation) click the little menu thing and select Make Frames From Layers. Like such:
7. Now you need to go into the little menu thing again and Select All Layers and adjust the timing so you like it. For this gif I have chosen 0.2 sec.
8. Now all you have to do is File -> Save For Web And Devices and hit save and your done
As I said at the start I pretty much taught myself how to do this so there may be easier ways but this is the way I do it. If you have any questions or you’re confused feel free to send me a message and I should be able to help :)

Thanks :) I don’t really know how many more I’ll make because it’s quite hard to find some of the information for other characters particularly things like wand type

It’s not annoying at all, I use photoshop and I’ll probably be putting up a tutorial towards the end of the week.
