As Valentines Day approaches, the topic of love is strewn everywhere. God has really been laying the true definition of love on my heart a lot lately. The main point He's been revealing to me is that love is NOT selfish. It is not meant to be a self satisfying desire. True, Godly, & pure love comes out of selflessness and the desire to protect the one God has given to you. Like a mother protects her infant, like a father who provides for his family no matter the cost to himself, so should our love be reflected in our marriages and even before that in our relationships. God's love is not harmful, and it is not degrading. It is fulfilling and revitalizing. It awakens our desire to love each other and it provides all the needs that we as a culture think that we are missing. The reality is that our culture is in love with fantasy and it leaves out the acknowledgement of that fact that we need REAL love. So when it comes to Valentines Day, let us not focus on self satisfaction, but instead whether we be single, or married, or in a relationship, focus our love to others. Be proactive in the love that God has given you. Don't become stagnant because of the worlds standards of love. We serve a mighty and powerful God who gave everything for us and only asks for love in return. "For God so LOVED the WORLD the He GAVE His ONLY begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not PERISH but have ETERNAL life." John 3:16
