I talk a lot about what I get out of raw sadism, but I do also just really, really love playing with masochists, even beyond how they let me enjoy a strange hobby. And, no shame to other masochists but there's a particular type of masochist that really activates something in me beyond just sadism.
So, I've met a few masochists of this type now that are normally such fighters, and I think that's part of it. The type to argue and push back at every point. To try to take ground and win positional advantage even before the scene starts. Not exactly brats per se, it's usually a compulsory thing. An instinct that hasn't been tamed. Usually the point of the pain is to push past it.
Some of them struggle to even express their interests in kink. They'll nervously walk into my room later in the day after the activities end to show me something I wrote and try to let the implications be enough. While others will tell me that they need to be fought and lose to be dommed. They'll state it as a challenge, or as a cost. This thing that has to happen first. Pain is 'sometimes enough' they say.
But, what really interests me with this category is how they respond to pain.
Are you familiar with the fawn response? Fight/flight/freeze/fawn. Fawn responses are characterized by cowering, by attempts to placate, by sudden shifts to submission, by throwing yourself onto the pyre before the aggressor can.
I think this type of masochistic response is best understood as a kind of fawn response. It's like a switch flips in them. They'll go from aggressive to begging and moaning in a heartbeat. From fighting back to eyes and mouth open staring eyes wide at you. Blank smiles and asking for more. Thoughts flushed from mind, just focused on riding the high of the pain. It's almost magical to watch.
Then, anywhere from a few seconds to a minute later, they'll be back to fighting, back to resisting. My impulse is always to find a rhythm. See how to best keep them in the state, or how best to have fun pushing and pulling them into and out of it. Usually it has to be pain from me. Sometimes pain in a specific place. Sometimes a specific type of pain. But once I get the first hit in it's unlikely I'm going to stop anytime soon.
And, I love that kind of scene. A kind of s/m that's almost entirely focused on the altered headspace of it. Subspace is a dear friend of any kinkster, but its position can vary a decent bit. And as a hypnokink haver, of course I enjoy very dearly and am very familiar with what can be done with subspace.
