i know what this sounds like but over the past few years for the first time in my life i have been hating what i look like and i don’t know how to deal with it. remember when i used to post selfies and enjoy being attractive? i miss that! and i do not like this business of not liking what i look like. a lot of it is about my hair? stupidly? i have made a lot of bad mistakes with my hair this calendar year and i just tried to ‘fix’ it by ‘resetting’ it down to very closely clipped and do you know what. i hate what i look like. it is also about clothes; i have outgrown both materially and spiritually most of what i used to wear and identify with the most and have not had the means either material or spiritual to grow a replacement wardrobe. i have no current sense of personal style that is not black or grey sweats and occasionally a pair of jeans. i have almost nothing to wear that i like the look of myself in aside from, again, like, hoodies. and they are absolutely depression hoodies. anyway i just spent like twenty minutes trying to take a selfie i liked enough to share and it didn’t work out. i want to feel better about the way that i look. it used to be so reliable. even when i felt the most like shit it was like hey at least i look great. and i really did! and it’s not like i have any like dysmorphia about what i look like now, i don’t find any fault with my body or my face. my tits drive me fucking crazy but that’s like, specific and also in large part about physical discomfort. you know. other than that i don’t have things i fixate on that i wish were different about my body. i can sometimes imagine ways of styling my body as it is that feel congenial to me. it’s dissociative really. i don’t have a sense of personal style because i am not a person. there is no self here to style. i do not recognize myself so i hate what i look like. it’s frightening to confront my lack of self so i hate what i look like. that’s what it is. do i think a hairstyle that didn’t look like the hairstyle of an insane woman who never goes outside and cuts her own hair would fix this? is a haircut a replacement for a self? no, but it would help. it would help. so we will let this grow until there is something to work with and then we will figure out a way to go to the barber. we will figure it out. and i am trying to let myself buy clothes that spark joy. i have so far managed two items. with a little effort maybe i’ll manage two more. so i’m working on it. i’m working on it.

feeling extremely unhinged about things it is not appropriate to feel this kind or degree of feeling about but as we all know being able to identify feelings as disproportionate or disordered or diswhateverelse does not in fact come with the ability to reorient their objects or turn down their volume so here we are simply feeling unhinged
