Subtle Peachshipping hints in Dark Side of Dimensions
While it never says that Yugi and Téa are in a relationship in the movie, there are hints that indicate they are. And it starts right at the beginning.
When Grandpa asks about why the two of them haven’t been walking to school together lately, Yugi blushes nervously and gets defensive. He tells his grandfather that only little kids do that (you were doing it at least six months ago), and where does he go?
To meet up with Téa and walk to school together! And she gives him a playful shoulder bump. I don’t know too many people who are just friends who do that. But the fact that Yugi and Téa meet up at a different spot could be because Yugi doesn’t want his grandpa to embarrass him in front of her or tease them.
And whenever the gang hangs out, Yugi and Téa always sit by each other.
At school.
At the mall.
Even at restaurants. And at two of these moments, they sit very close to one another, and kind of isolate themselves form the group. Like a couple.
And now, onto the duels!
While Joey and Tristan are talking about Yugi taking on Diva and Kaiba…
Téa’s reading a text from Yugi. According to it, she sent it around 2:00 pm, and the current time is about 4:30 pm when she looks at her phone. She either just got the text, or is rereading it out of concern. And as usual, Yugi is only focusing on helping his friend rather than his own wellbeing. Selfless idiot.
Now after Yugi has taken several blasts from Diva, Téa looks away and holds her hands over her heart. She has turned away from intense duels before, but never with that jester. Like it’s causing her actual pain to see Yugi get hurt like that. A classic girlfriend stance.
Then Dark Diva appears and uses the combined power of the Millennium Ring and Quantum Cube to dissolve the world into darkness. Téa immediately screams Yugi’s name, and he looks to her.
Of course he’s going to worry about her, and the rest of his friends. But he reacts as she calls out to him, taking his attention away from the villain.
Thankfully, we get a happy ending, and the gang graduates! Then it takes us to Téa leaving for America.
Her eyes become more gentle and loving as she turns to Yugi. She didn’t look at the others like that. She has known him since childhood. But it’s an endearing stare.
Yugi looks a bit sad at first himself. To see the girl he’s had a crush on for years, that some point during the six month gap finally begin a relationship with, leave. That’s not easy, especially since he had to say goodbye to another person he loved not too long ago.
But, he’s still happy she gets to follow her dream. Yugi’s the kind of guy who would support someone and not focus on being sad about it. Plus, I believe Atem’s brief return made him more comfortable with Téa studying abroad. That loved ones can come back.
Then we get a sweet moment of focusing on their hive-five. Though I headcanon as Téa starts to leave, she turns around and gives Yugi a kiss.
And there you have it! My Peachshipping defense. I could have gone into more detail about the roof scene, but this is already a long post. I covered all that I wanted to. No mean comments please. This is a fan analysis.
