Lady in a red dress, New York City, 1950s.
Matching shoes and purse, 1950s.
Disappointment.
Ahhh, I just need to vent this out. I won the best bracelet of all time on ebay last week (an atomic dream) and was so looking forward to getting it. Then today, I open the parcel excitedly and out drops a completely different bracelet altogether. So gutted. This seller is supposed to be a professional vintage jewellery dealer (fancy crap business card and all) It honestly doesn't take much to double check you're sending the right thing. And I know there's no chance in hell I'll ever see that bracelet. The person that got it instead of the one I got will be so overjoyed at how amazing it is that they won't care about the shit thing I got. This takes my unlucky-ness to a nice new level. And no, I'm not being dramatic, I am genuinely unlucky ALL the time and I have no idea why. I am having so much stress going on at the moment that a little thing like a bracelet could have made my week a whole lot better. I don't think I can get a refund and to be honest it's the bracelet that mattered. I know that in a few days I will probably find it back on ebay :(
DREAMLIFE
Dream things!
Let's face it, she was the accessory/matchy matchy queen! koshermuff :)
Carmen Miranda on the cover of brazilian magazine O Cruzeiro, 1940s.
I'm just on a real Carmen kick today. I think about her quite often - her life, her hidden sadness. But she always strived to appear as happy as possible. Seeing/hearing her always puts me in a happier state, and I LOVE her!
Teenage Bad Girl, 1956
Yeeeeeeeah!!!
Summer is here… And here comes the swimsuits!
I've always loved this picture. The flamingo one gets me every time.
Beautiful Rita!
I do love rita, so much!
Love these kinds of photos
Of manners/common decency and their demise..
I really don't know if it is just me these days, but I worry a lot about what is going to happen when the older generation pass on. They are the last kind of people who still appreciate manners/respect and when they are all gone I honestly really get scared about what it will be like.
The other day I was coming out of a charity shop, and an old man with a cane was at the door to leave before me. He saw me behind him, and then went to great effort to step aside, come around to my side (can and all) so he could hold the door open for me. I smiled at him nicely and said 'thankyou really very much' The saddest thing is he looked shocked that I had thanked him. I am very much capable of opening doors etc. myself of course, but I still appreciate it greatly if a kind person (male or female) holds it open for me.
To ruin my temporary feeling that some goodness in the world still existed, I went to the petrol station afterwards - there is the heaviest door to that place, I am so small it takes quite a lot of effort to open it. If I have opened it and someone else is coming in/out I hold it for them. I went to go in behind this giant guy and he promptly let it just slam nearly in my face. Ass.
Am I the only one who is really, really panicked about 'the state of the world today'? It keeps me up at night.
Record Love!
