Find comfort that Allah swt hears what the tongue can't express and what the heart can't fully articulate, for verily in the remembrance of Allah will hearts find rest.

*Neglecting the five daily prayers*

(Ṣalāh) is a very serious matter in Islam. The Qur’an and authentic Hadith clearly warn about its consequences. At the same time, Allah’s door of tawbah (repentance) is always open. 🤲

1. A Serious Warning in the Qur’an

Allah warns about people who neglect their prayers:

فَوَيْلٌ لِّلْمُصَلِّينَ

الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَن صَلَاتِهِمْ سَاهُونَ

“So woe to those who pray,

but are heedless of their prayer.”

— Qur’an (Surah Al-Ma‘un 107:4-5)

Scholars explain that this refers to those who delay, neglect, or are careless about their prayers.

2. Being Counted Among the People of Hell (If One Abandons It)

Allah describes a conversation of the people of Hell:

مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ

قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ

“What caused you to enter Hell?”

They will say: “We were not among those who prayed.”

— Qur’an (Surah Al-Muddaththir 74:42-43)

This shows that abandoning prayer is one of the major reasons for punishment.

3. The First Deed That Will Be Judged

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The first matter that the slave will be brought to account for on the Day of Judgment is the prayer. If it is sound, the rest of his deeds will be sound.”

— Reported in Sunan al‑Tirmidhi

This means Ṣalāh is the foundation of a Muslim’s deeds.

4. Abandoning Prayer Is Close to Disbelief

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Between a man and disbelief and shirk is abandoning the prayer.”

— Sahih Muslim

Another hadith says:

“The covenant between us and them is the prayer; whoever abandons it has committed disbelief.”

— Sunan Ibn Majah

Because of this, many scholars said leaving prayer intentionally is one of the gravest sins.

5. Loss of Barakah and Peace

Even in this world, neglecting prayer can lead to:

Hardness of the heart 💔

Lack of barakah in life

Anxiety and emptiness

Weak connection with Allah

Allah says:

“Indeed, prayer prevents immorality and wrongdoing.”

— Qur’an (Surah Al-Ankabut 29:45)

When prayer is abandoned, this protection is lost.

6. But Allah’s Mercy Is Always Open 🌙

No matter how long someone has neglected prayer, Allah loves when His servant returns to Him.

Allah says:

“O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah.”

— Qur’an (Surah Az-Zumar 39:53)

If a person sincerely repents and starts praying again, Allah forgives.

Ṣalāh is not a burden; it is a gift and connection with Allah five times a day. It brings peace to the heart and success in this life and the Hereafter.
