naegi is up, i guess. haha.
1.) Describe your character’s relationship with their mother or their father, or both. Was it good? Bad? Were they spoiled rotten, ignored? Do they still get along now, or no?
Naegi's relationship with his family has always been really postive and close. While he definitely wasn't spoiled, he and his sister were probably coddled a bit more than other children and while it hasn't totally hindered Naegi's development as a person it's made him a lot more oblivious about things and ignorant about the harsher aspects of life.
Naegi was really close with his Mom and kind of a "Mama's boy" without the normally creepy conotations that come with that label. Mama Naegi was the voice of reason in the family and Naegi would often go to her for an understanding but practical take on the situation. He used to do his homework in the kitchen because being around her made him feel grounded and safe.
Naegi's relationship with his Dad was slightly more strained but still loving. When he was a kid he positively adored his Dad and his goofy antics, but when he hit his teens his Dad's endlessly postive and very bubbly speeches became embarrassing and kinda grating. But, in private he still enjoyed his company and deep down has always admired his Dad.
His relationship with both was really good and even after when coming to terms with the fact that they both passed away, he remembers them fondly and looking back on them is bittersweet rather than painful.
2.) What are your characters most prominent physical features?
He's very average in appearance but his wild bed-head and perpetual cow-lick are eye-catching in a sort of mundane way. It's more his clothes that are "cool".
3.) Name one scar your character has, and tell us where it came from. If they don’t have any, is there a reason?
He got nicked and bruised a couple of times as a kid but he never did anything dangerous as a child or active enough as a teen to leave permanent scars.
4.) How vain is your character? Do they find themselves attractive?
(laughs like a salad) Not at all. He's painfully aware of how average he looks and highlights it himself pretty often. His self-esteem isn't the greatest, but he's definitely not miserable because of the way he looks. It's kinda just...what it is.
5.) What’s your character’s ranking on the Kinsey Scale?
I'd say a 1/2? He reads pretty heterosexual to me, but I don't think he'd be the type of person to deny or avoid love or crushes happening with people of the same gender. Or really even get worked up about it.
6.) Describe your character’s happiest memory.
When he was about eight years old there was a power outage at school and it was raining really hard, so classes were cancelled and they had to wait around for their parents to come pick them up. Naegi's friends dragged him out into a football game that got them completely drenched but it was fun and humid and he got covered in dirt. His Mom yelled at him when she came to pick him up because he had grass stains all over his school shirt and dirt in his hair, but when he got home she still made him hot chocolate and gently rubbed the dirt out with a towel while he and his sister played checkers.
He's had more exicting things happen to him, but it's the one moment he goes back to whenever he needs a breather or a reminder to keep on living. It's that kind of simple happiness he likes best.
7.) Is there one event or happening your character would like to erase from their past? Why?
Wetting the bed. Hahahaha.
8.) Day of Favorites! What’s your character’s favorite ice cream flavor? Color? Song? Flower?
Ice Cream: Vanilla (laughs)
Colour (fuck you I'm using the British spelling God save the Queen): Green
Song: He likes really popular songs and really common stuff, but for some reason I also see him being into really old school bands. Like B'Z? Also, I imagine him listening to soft pop from America.... like Metamorphsis by Hilary Duff. There we go. That's my headcanon.
9.) Who does your character trust?
Literally everyone and anyone. He's incredibly trusting to a fault and always believes in giving people the benefit of the doubt even when most other people would have turn tail and fled. Unless people give him a reason not to be he's completely open with them.
10.) Can you define a turning point in your character’s life? Multiples are acceptable.
Nothing really shook him or changed him all that much aside from coming to Hope's Peak. Being there and with his class helped him get over a lot of his self-worth issues and it was the first time in a long while he had people he could consider "best friends".
11.) Is there an animal you equate with your character?
Rabbits. They're pretty meek and they'll have a heart attack if you drop them, but they're also capable of being incredibly relentless fighters when push comes to shove. You have no experianced true amazement until you've seen a pack of rabbits chase off a cat.
12.) How is your character with technology? Super savvy, or way behind the times? Letters or email?
Fucking terrible with anything outside of using a cellphone or computer. He wouldn't be able to fix something if you gave him a manual and had someone from geek squad holding his hand the entire time. This is why he doesn't watch porn online. What the hell would he do if he got a virus?
13.) What does your character’s bed look like when he/she wakes up? Are the covers off on one side of the bed, are they all curled around a pillow, sprawled everywhere? In what position might they sleep?
Bedhead everywhere and sometimes he drools. He doesn't move a whole lot but he does roll around a bit. He doesn't quite curl up but he definitely doesn't sleep straight either. If there is a body pillow there is a a very high chance it will be cuddled with in his sleep.
14.) How does your character react to temperature changes such as extreme heat and cold?
Heat: He's likes warmer weather but he does not do well in the heat at all. He's prone to heat strokes and had a few close calls when he was younger.
Cold: He's not too fond of it when it's freezing and rain isn't his favourite, but he loves snow. Who doesn't love snow?
15.) Is your character an early morning bird or a night owl?
He gets up at a fairly average time but goes to bed pretty early for a highschooler. He only thinks it's okay to stay up on the weekends and it's usually to play a game.
16.) Are there any blood relatives that your character is particularly close with, besides the immediate ones? Cousins, Uncles, Grandfathers, Aunts, et cetera. Are there any others that your character practically considers a blood relative?
His parents don't have any siblings, but his Grandpa on his Dad's side was like a slightly more mellow version of his Dad and always had a lot of really fun stories to tell. He ran a konbini until and Naegi liked to hang around in the shop and wave at reuglar customers. When his Grandpa passed away the building was bought out by a big company. Whenever he biked past the building where he had worked it would upset Naegi a little to see it had changed into a chain store with the sign "under new management" on the front.
17.) What’s your character’s desk/workspace look like? Are they neat or messy?
He's pretty neat for the most part. Sometimes he forgets to put papers away or there is dust on a book left a few months too long but he's not digusting.
18.) Is your character a good cook? What’s their favorite recipe, whether they’re good or not? (Microwave mac-and-cheese applies.)
A decent cook, haha. His Mom did most of the cooking, but he knows how to do simple stuff like cook rice, fry eggs and make toast, ect. Anything much more complicated than that and he needs to follow a book to the letter otherwise it'll end up messed up.
He really likes omurice, which he can cook. He just...doesn't like talking about it because people laugh at him for being fond of what is essentially "children's comfort food".
19.) What’s your character’s preferred means of travel?
He's not obsessed with them, but the novelty of riding a ferry is still pretty fresh for him and just being on boats in general is really nice. For everyday travel, he's prefectly happy with the shinkansen.
20.) Does your character have any irrational fears?
Was terrified of the dark as a child. It still kinda scares him and sometimes it's hard to sleep if it's completely pitch black, but he's mostly over it.
21.) What would your character’s cutie mark be?
22.) If your character could time travel, where would they go?
Back to school to try harder to befriend Enoshima and get her help. Or to the beginning of the trials so no one would have to die.
If he could only stay there for a short while he'd go back and visit his family and say proper farewells.
23.) Is your character superstitious?
Not really. He believes in ghosts, but hasn't seen any or believe that anyone who tells him has really seen them. He's pretty reluctant to beleive in anything supernatural. His parents are non-practicing buddist and he's been to shrines but he doesn't really believe in a diety.
24.) What might your character’s ideal romantic partner be?
Kirigiri Kyouko. Haha, no. He's really not big on being the manly stereotype expected of him so he prefers someone who'll be more dominant personality-wise and make choices for them. But, at the same time he'd want someone who adored him as much as he adored them. I headcanon him as being very sappy and head-over-heels for his crushes.
25.) Describe your character’s hands. Are they small, long, calloused, smooth, stubby?
Pffft, he's got small chubby little kid hands. His Mom used to buy a lot of his stuff from the kid's section because everything was just a little bit too bit for him.
26.) Second day of favorites! Favorite comfort food, favorite vice, favorite outfit, favorite hot drink, favorite time of year, and favorite holiday.
Favourite comfort food: Omurice...
Favourite Vice: ...Television, probably. Pffft.
Favourite outfit: Jeans and his ~*trendy hoodie*~ , of course.
Favourite hot drink: Hot chocolate. (He is a child...)
Favourite time of the Year: Spring
Favorite Holiday: New Years!
27.) Pick two songs that describe your character at two different points of their life, and explain why you chose them.
Pre-despair: Neon India - Polish Girl
Not lyrically about him quite, though it would be interpreted about that way about his relationship with Mukuro or Kirigiri. Or possibly about the subconcious memories about his friends. The song always has evoked a pleasant calmness in me with a small underlying hint of personality. -and that is more what I found close to him.
Post-despair: Close Watch - Agnes Obel
"I still hear your voice at night
When I turn out the light
But there's nothing much I can do"
It's a song that can be interrpreted as a romantic relationship or a close friend coming to an end and making it incredibly difficult for the speaker to get through life without them. But, I like to apply it to Naegi losing his friends. He's very hopeful and he's a trustworthy person, but I can't imagine him getting out completely emotionally unscathed. ...I mean, just look at the game mechanics. You can complete every free time event and every free time event in canon. Canonically, Naegi attempted to befriend every would-be murderer and victim.
28.) If your character’s life was a genre, what would it be?
Slice of Life or a children's show.
29.) How does your character smell? Do they wear perfume or cologne?
Doesn't wear perfume or cologne. I'm guessing he'd smell like laundry and bread? I alwyas iamgined he'd be really fond of those meat buns.
30.) And finally: Write a letter to your character, from yourself.
I think I understand you a lot more than some other people because deep down we just wanna believe everyone is capable of love and being kind. But, people aren't exactly perfect and sometimes it takes a lot out of you to do that. Keep your chin up! You make me wanna be a better person.
