“I wouldn’t say we were friends, per se.” They weren’t enemies either. It was mostly a case of their paths just never really crossing. It happened. He conveniently omitted the detail that she and him shared a kiss very early on in their careers, much to the shock of a young Cyclops and Professor X. It was only once and led to nothing, but it had happened. “Of all the X-Men I know, I’d say I knew her better than I do much of the rest.”
❝ Oh— Oh. ❞ Huh. So she knew Spider-Man. ( ... Well, *she* didn’t know Spider-Man—though how cool would that have been?—but the Jean Grey she might have grown up to be once upon a lifetime did. ) Then again, this was her world and the people she knew in it, not Jeannie’s. The X-Man thought that she would get used to being in a world where everyone KNEW her and DIDN’T, but it still proved to be bizarre sensation for the redheaded teenager. She mulled it over thoughtfully.
❝ Gee, I could have known Spider-Man. I guess it really is a SMALL world... ❞ Though it was always getting BIGGER.

❝ Loaded question, much? ❞
Jubilee immediately winced in response to her own words. Little Jean hadn’t been around when it happened. She didn’t know the extent of the damage Death had done both to the school or to its host.
She suspected none of them did.
❝ LSorry. Emotions aren’t really working for me right now. Cept anger. That seems to work jus’ fine. ❞
Rubbing a hand down her face, Jubilee slumped down in her seat. She was not making any friends lately. Either pissing them off, or pushing them away… or worse.
She was toxic company.
❝ No, I get it. And I’m not reading your mind, by the way—I just... I get what you MEAN— ❞
She was in New York when it happened, but memories of the Phoenix and encounters with forces quite like it in space were enough to shake the girl to her core, to remind her that even if she wasn’t tied to this present timeline any longer,
it never meant she would ever be SAFE.
( And it didn’t guarantee she wouldn’t die young. )
❝ We don’t have to talk about it. I don’t even think we’re close enough to do that. I just wanted to see you. ❞
Things like this was why Jean couldn’t run away anymore. Even if it meant giving up being normal or dating or LIVING,
she would always be an X-MAN.

“Yeah, uh… I wasn’t going to mention that.” He knew that when it came to mutant kind, tame travel was just part of everyday life. Cyclops can have a meathead kid who’s older and grayer than he his. After a man like Cable, you don’t really question it. You just take it for what it is and move on. Therefore, it really wasn’t a stretch to wrap his head around the fact that Jean Grey could find herself displaced in time. “I know her well enough. Kinda. Mostly when I was near your age.”
The redhead nodded understandably but sulked, a little embarrassed. Coming to conclusions like that, it kind of made her sound a little like a— ( ... like the ‘ b-word ’ ), but Jean couldn’t really help it. Time and time again, heroes and villains alike would confuse the time-displaced X-Man for her older, ‘ Great Jean Grey ’ self brought back from the DEAD ( again ) or DE-AGED ( apparently that can happen ), though the age and inexperience in combat ( and pop culture ) should have really raised some red flags. She looked up, surprised.
❝ You did? Were we—were you and her FRIENDS? ❞
apologies for not being on jean! i lost a bunch of the new icons i made recently, so i’m going to have to make them again, but i definitely still have a lot so i will be working on replies!
it’s interesting that jean has been playing confidant to bobby lately, i sort of want it to go both ways and to just have them as rly good friends

Jean was surprised to see herself standing in the hall ofthe School. Not herself, obviously, but a younger version of the person she had been. “Did the Professor send youhere?” she asked.
❝ I... ❞ Jean Grey. This was really Jean Grey. The person she should have been, might have been once upon a time, oh, but she keeps her thoughts together. The other her could probably read them anyway. ❝ No. Henry did. ❞

❝ —Yeah, I’m her, but I’m NOT her. It’s complicated— ❞
She would rather avoid giving the spiel about how she wasn’t the adult Jean and how she got here in the present in the first place, but it seems like time- traveling X-Men are simply the norm nowadays.
Or always. But like she said, it’s complicated.
⊗ ( STARTER FOR @fangedfirecracker. )
❝ Hey, uh, Jubilee... How are you feeling...? ❞
Jean already knew, but the weight of the guilt creeping upon her implored her to ask. It was selfish. She never should have left. It was too presumptuous to think things at the school would stay
UNEVENTFUL.
( As if anything was with the X-Men ever was... )
But the girl could not help but think if she had stayed, she could have prevented this somehow. Isn’t that why she stayed here in the first place—to fix the future—even if it all ended up being based on Henry’s lie, that was still her reason,
and what did she do? LEAVE.
... She doubted her older self would do that.
