BETH HAD just sat through the Christmas concert, and had for the most part enjoyed it. She appreciated that her first glimpse of many of the people she’d hopefully come to know was of them onstage. After all, you could learn a lot about people through observing them in front of the public. But there were a few aspects of this show that had concerned her. Perhaps it was because she came from a fairly sheltered and conservative lifestyle, but referring to Father Christmas (whom they here in Auradon called Santa Claus) as “Santa Baby” seemed very strange, and a little disconcerting. And the fact that it came form none other than the Princess Aurora herself, one of the few royals Beth actually recognized, made it even more shocking. But Beth didn’t want to jump to any judgmental conclusions. After all, the young Londoner wasn’t all too familiar with Auradon culture. So she sat at a table, humming the song to herself and doodling on a napkin. It ended being two sketches; one of an old man in a baby’s crib, and another of baby in a rocking chair with a beard and pipe. “Are Father Christmas and Santa Baby meant to be the same person?” she wondered aloud, to no one in particular. To her surprise though, someone heard.
christmas was one of wendy’s favorite holiday seasons as it was a time full of joy and giving. not to mention , a chance to completely spoil her children. does she go overboard? absolutely , yes. will she ever stop? no , never. though her christmas shopping was put on pause to enjoy the christmas concert that auradon puts on. the performances were as wonderful as always to her. afterwards , she begins walking through the christmas fayre in an attempt to sneakily get a peek at galen and his date. it wasn’t her main objective but if she happen to stumble upon them… as she walks by a table with a young girl sat at it , her ears overhear the question. perhaps she was just thinking out loud but wendy , nosy as always , couldn’t help but interject. ‘ father christmas and santa clause are more like distant cousins really. auradon has adapted and added their own traditions and re-named him santa clause. they do both still bring christmas cheer. ‘ she smiles at the other. ‘ i was a bit confused at first too , but don’t worry you’ll figure it all out in time. ‘ it’s a bit jarring to come over to a new land with new customs. she assumes by the question that the young girl has either just arrived or has only been here for only a short time. ‘ as for santa baby , well , that is more a flirtatious name for santa clause written just for the melody you heard. i hope that helped. ‘
Beth smiled in return, grateful to find that she wasn’t the only one getting used to fitting in. And, although she loved everyone here and they were all very welcoming, the familiarity of the other’s accent brought a sense of ease. It wasn’t Cockney, but it was English, and that in itself was comforting.
“Oh, I see!” The idea of traditions had always intrigued her, “Would you be able ta tell me some more about dese traditions? If you’ve da time, dat is, o’ course, I wouldn’t wanna interrupt whatever yer doin’ there.” The flirtatious bit was still troubling her though. The Father Christmas she grew up with was elderly, and not meant to be seduced. “So, I assume dat yer Santa Clause is younger then, right? ‘Cause Father Christmas is far too old ta be inna relationship wit’ da likes o’ Princess Aurora!” She couldn’t help but giggle at the thought, far more comfortable with this fellow Englishman than she’d been with anyone else here.

the christmas concert was as much as as lily expected it to be. everyone did a wonderful job with the songs and dances, and she’s sure those songs will be stuck in her head until new years. she’s sipping her hot chocolate, trying to decide what to do at the fair next when she hears a voice behind her. she turns, a smile on her face while she thinks about it.
‘wait, who’s father christmas? is he meant to be santa claus?’ coming to auradon, there’s a host of new traditions to learn. an old fat man coming down the chimney to leave presents? wait until her mother heard that one! ‘and santa baby is the same as santa claus, i think. aren’t they trying to seduce him in the song?’
Beth cocks her head, considering this, “I’d say so, yeah. I mean, loads o’ people say ‘e’s the same, but I always imagined him thinner,” she shrugged, “But yeah, presents an’ stockin’s an’ da like, you bet! I don’t much like the idea of seducin’ ‘im though. It could jus’ be me, but don’t that seem a little...odd to you?”
b something
BETH looked at the young man, offering a knowing smile, “Y’know, I was just thinkin’ da very same thing to meself. Well, sort of, not really. Anywho, I was thinkin’ about how da ‘ole world keeps moving on by, an’ people barely stop an’ get to ‘ave a good look at it!” As if to emphasize her own point, she paused and glanced around in wonder, “On dat note, this place is just bloody beautiful, like somethin’ outta’ a fairy story!”
galen blinks, not prepared to hear such a philosophical spiel, but he supposes he did just do the same. he should probably not talk aloud, but people in auradon generally tend to feel comfortable with talking to strangers, so sometimes he can’t help it. once he’s gotten over somebody actually replying, galen flashes her a small smile; he’s thankful to have somebody to talk to, actually. ‘ are you new here? ’ he asks initially, and then narrows his eyes. ‘ wait, i’ve seen you around before, haven’t i? b… b something. ’
Beth is flattered and a little embarrassed that he recognizes her, as she does not recognize him. Looking at him closer, though, she realizes she may.
“Yeah, B something, that’s it!” She grins, “My name’s Beth. And...” she cocks her head, scrunching her eyebrows together, “Oh bloody ‘ell, It’s in ‘ere somewhere!” She taps her head despairingly, “I do apologize, I’m really no good wit’ names, y’see.”

“tea time already?” Beth inquires with a good-natured smile, “A bit early fer me, but suit yerself!” She chuckled a bit, hoping to ease the obviously grumpy young woman, and, truth be told, herself, “I don’t mean ta bother ya, but I was wonderin’ if ya knew where ta find…” she squinted at a now very crumpled schedule, “The East Wing of da Juniper Hall, N 1 dash 231. It’s all dese bloomin’ letters, see, they don’t make any sense!” She sighed and lowered the paper, “At dis point, I would settle fer just a direction, I can barely tell which way is down an’ which is up!”
‘ oh this is something stronger than tea. tea just really wouldn’t do the job. ‘ besides , mal’s not a tea person herself anyway. despite her present headache she tries to smile at the lost girl. it was her fault mal had too much to drink last night anyway. ‘ that sounds like a mouth full , but also familiar. i might have tagged a wall there once? ‘ she hums to herself as she tries to remember , then shakes her head. ‘ i have some time so i can help you find it. juniper hall should be in this direction. ‘ mal starts walking towards the buildings she believes holds juniper hall. the university was far more confusing than auradon prep had ever been. ‘ i don’t think we’ve met? i’m mal. ‘
“oh, would ya?” Beth smiled again, grateful that this girl had the heart to even show her the way, though she hadn’t the faintest idea what tagged meant, “that’s be jus’ wonderful!” She stood up as well, sticking out a hand, “Pleased to meethca Mal, I’m Beth!” She followed the other girl eagerly, “An’ thank ye ever so kindly fer doin’ this! Like I said, if it’s too much trouble ye don’t ‘ave ta come along,” she added hastily, “Though I’d be mighty glad if ye did!”

she needed her coffee before enduring any sort of human interaction , which is why she finds herself at a cafe near the university. her hands barely wrap around the warm cup before she sees someone approaching out of the corner of her eye. no , not yet! a finger is held out to them indicating them to pause. she tips the cup against her lips and takes a long sip. ‘ ok , i’ve had the opportunity to consume at least a drop of caffeine. you can speak now. ‘

‘ do you ever feel like your life is kind of, like, one confusing blur that isn’t like, super bad to live in, but you have no idea what you’re doing at any given time? ’ he’s pretty sure that there’s going to be a rumour going around that he and harry hook are fucking, university is kind of a boring mess, and he’s pretty sure he’s mad at tamlin but he can’t tell just how much. he’s stood in the middle of this christmas parade wishing he wasn’t sober, his cold hands in the pockets of his coat as he blinks at all the christmas lights in the fairground around him. ‘ everything’s going a little… fast. ’ he needs life to slow down, and he hasn’t even smoked today…

ELIZABETH DAWES is the daughter of Bert from Mary Poppins. Beth grew up with her father on the streets of London, picking up the odd job here and there to make ends meet. They live by the skin of their teeth, but very happily. The Cockney teenager is willful, resourceful, and optimistic, though she does tend to get embarrassed about her low social status, and her pride keeps her from being totally vulnerable with others. Beth is currently attending Auradon University after she joined Auradon Prep for the senior year, successfully managing to graduate and learn to read. Now she is taking a hodgepodge of classes, trying to find where she fits in this still fairly new world. Thus far, it seems like art is her thing, but she’s not ready to give up on anything else quite yet!
Elizabeth’s face claim is JOEY KING and she is an ORIGINAL CHARACTER.
introducing...BETH (and Chloe!)
Hi all! I’m Chloe, and I’m in the Mountain time zone (though I’m normally up at strange hours so don’t rely on that!) I’m really excited to be a part of this group, and I can’t wait to start writing with all of you! Below is my (first) character, Beth Dawes. I’ve done some writing with her before, but one of the things that drew me to this group was the idea of fleshing out characters, something that I really hope to do with Bethie. Hope to interact with all of you soon. <3
