Okay, even Will could admit that asking her point blank if she was a werewolf had been a mistake. Maybe there was some truth after all, he thought, to needing to be more careful with what he said and actually thinking before he spoke. Will was famous for speaking and reacting without thinking, his reckless and impulsive nature often the root source of his and the Pack’s problems. It always seemed to be Will who threw the first punch in a fight, who pushed somebody’s buttons too hard.
He really would need to learn impulse control someday.
Will shook his head with regret, wishing he had taken another approach to asking Nadia about the suspicions he had about her. “Wait,” He pleaded with her as she backed out of the kitchen, knocking her chair over on the way out. He knew he should let her walk away, he didn’t know her after all. She didn’t owe him any answers, not really. He also knew that if she left, if she stormed out of here then she’d be leaving the sanctuary of the house. He wouldn’t be able to keep her safe out there, not for long, not like he could inside these walls. He rushed after her, pleading with her some more to wait for a just a second and to give him a chance to explain. She whirled on him them, hissing a warning. Will came to a sudden halt, holding his hands up as if to surrender. He wanted to show her he wasn’t going to harm he, he wanted her to know she was safe with him.
“I’m just like you.” He said, slowly lowering his hands and taking a step backwards as a sign of good favour. Maybe if he listened to her, gave her what she wanted then she wouldn’t run.
The threat hung in the air but he stopped and Nadia only balanced her weight carefully. It showed in all her movements that she knew how to fight, if only he knew how that came about. Her heartbeat was steady and her breathing controlled. It took a few moments for her to realise that his hands were up, a universal sign of surrender.
Nadia froze as he said that he was just like her. It was possible, she knew it was. Packs were littered all over the world, in every nook and cranny. But they didn’t appreciate the fact that lone wolves would wander into their territory. Nadia has forgotten those rules in her rush to find a new life for herself, forgot that she was alone and therefore there would be no one to check that she should be there. She should have checked up, she knew better than that. In her mind, she could almost hear her father’s voice scolding her, snarling that it was disrespectful. Nadia’s fists wouldn’t unclench just yet, blood beginning to stain her fingertips with the force that she was exerting. Her eyes transformed into the animalistic molten gold but she was keeping the full transformation at bay for now.
“Prove it.” Her voice was layered with the tone of a beta, the idea that she still was jerking her from her worry for a moment. Nadia blinked, her brow furrowing as she filed that away. Her brother hadn’t cut her off yet? That didn’t make sense, she had felt so alone for so long. She was sure he had given up on her forever. Shaking her head, she moved her eyes back to Will. “I shouldn’t have to ask how if you’re a wolf. You know what you can do.”
