I was kidnapping Shogo before it was cool.
Hush - [DRABBLE, plot start]
Pari wandered the halls, all quiet for the momentbeing. It must have been pretty late by now and no one was in the hallways. With a spell to hide herself from passers by and another to cloak herself from any telepaths noticing her (if they were looking for her it was another story but just randomly noticing her should have been off the table), she walked about.
There had been magical scrying here, searching for her, and after what she had done it was no hard game to guess who was looking for her. Pari had easily deflected the scry, not allowing them to know where she was, but proceeded to use the trail of magic to trace it back to where it had come from.
It seemed somewhat perfect at first. Pari had located Forest in the medical wing nearby immediately, but... there were people everywhere. A large blue furred doctor. Several other patients, including Shatterstar, were around and people were in and out to visit.
There was no way she could hold the spells to hide herself and take out the boy and get out with her life. Besides, killing him wasn't enough. She wanted to own him. To introduce him to a life of pain and torture so as to exceed any anyone else had ever experienced. So she proceeded to bide her time, exploring the school.
The girl had discovered several things while motoring around. She was learning who Forest considered friend and foe. A little about his role here in the school. She had learned that his most beloved staff member in the school was someone called Jubilee.
It didn't take long to find her place of residence and the toys and the diaper bag tipped her off pretty quickly that there was an infant. A very tricky thought entered her mind as she snooped around the nursery. This baby seemed to be a favorite of the entire school if the talk and pictures were to be believed.
She leaned over his crib. He was a fat little thing, snuggled up under a blanket, eyes closed, little chubby hands balled into loose fists as he slept.
Pari carefully packed a diaper bag, then found a pen and piece of paper, scrawling out something quickly, and took the blanket around him, painstakingly picking him up in a way that disturbed him as little as possible. He murmured and gave a whine but did not cry and she smirked.
"Shhhh, it's okay," she said in a convincingly affectionate voice. "Momma Pari has you now. Don't you cry."
And he didn't because in the end a baby was an innocent, infinitely trusting creature and he pushed into her warmth. He would miss his mother later. He would be distressed later, but for now he completely trusted this stranger and the sheer lack of protective instinct fascinated Pari.
The last thing she did was drop a note in the crib, glancing at Shogo. "... Maybe after this is over I will raise you as a little minion, what do you think?" she cooed before disappearing altogether.
//time to engage in nefariousness
If there were ever a more unwelcome sight to Shatterstar, it would have been Mojo. Even Spiral had her redeeming qualities, but this—
He took two swift lunges towards Pari, slicing at her with his swords, brutally slicing down-to-up on her body. Of course, it being a dream, the sword slid through without any actual damage like he was slicing through mist. Snarling, he cursed out in a guttural, Cadre fashion. Several remarks about her dishonorable carcass wouldn’t be fit to be stood on by a Spineless One.
"What message?" Shatterstar spat out, murder written on his face.
"For your squirrel friend?" she said, laying back and looked like she was swimming through the void, "He undid the spell you know. I mentioned to him how it worked and he made a very good assumption and broke you from my control. He also got away before we were done playing and now there are people alive who know my face. I can't accept that."
She stood like normal and faced him down with a very bad kind of grin. "So you tell him that I'm coming back for him. I'll wait as long as it takes and I'll find him and I will take him and I will finish what I started and I will make sure he knows what it feels to be a limbless torso before I let him die. And no one, not even you, can save him. It won't be right away but I will find him."
She chuckled. "So don't take your eyes off him, sheepdog, lest he disappear from the flock."
Everything was pitch black, until a shimmer of red light drifted in from the corner of Shatterstar's vision. Something wafted through the air, sparkling like diamonds, before pausing in his direct line of sight.
It looked almost like a fox for a split second before Pari's form came into view, her wicked smile most attractive, causing a disturbing disconnect with who and what she was.
"Well, hi," she said, "And before you wonder why you aren't hurt or try to rip me to pieces, this is a dream. I still have a bit of a magical connection to you and I wanted to deliver a message."
You Belong To Me - [healingtheassassins] [adreamyoudidntlike] [squirrelthief]
I’ve got him. Josh tried to push feelings of strength into Quentin. I’m going to get him out of the way and work on her. Can you hold her for at least five minutes? He didn’t want to push Quentin. He hoped he could get her down that fast. God he hadn’t realised how rusty he was. He needed to get back in the Danger Room for actual training. “He’s not a dolly and I won’t heal people for you. That wasn’t our deal.”
"Yeah buddy. It’s me." Josh kept his back to her, if Quentin couldn’t hold her then she had a very large target that blood would show up well on. She’d appreciate that. He wrapped his arm around Forest’s shoulders and picked him up. "I know." He whispered, giving his voice confidence he didn’t feel. "We’re dealing with her okay?"
He crossed the room as fast as he could and placed him on the table. “Stay here okay.” He spied the rope and grabbed it. “Of course I didn’t come alone. I’m not an idiot. X-men trust their team. No one’s alone. That’s what this belt buckle means.” Pretty words even if he didn’t believe them. He dashed forwards and tied the rope around one wrist, the one without the knife.
As he turned to grab her other hand he felt himself slide. Shit! The blood! As he went down he heard a sickening crack as his head hit the table. That’s… That’s going to take time to heal.
Time they didn’t have.
Five minutes; five whole minutes. If he could manage to shut her down, he might be able to do this. He’d have to go further, turn the train back in on itself, back into the station so to speak. Josh’s thoughts served as ammunition, as muscle. Quentin felt himself growing stronger by the second.
If I can keep Wolverine trapped in telepathic stasis for three days straight, he told himself, this should be a cinch. He tried to make himself believe it to the point where it almost seemed plausible. He pushed harder and harder against Pari’s violent impulses, trying to exude what feelings of love and loyalty he could muster. He thought about Forest’s smile and how if they didn’t act fast, it might fade forever. He remembered the smell of peppermint shampoo that exuded from Idie’s hair, the scratches left on the test tubes by Broo’s sharp claws, the songs that he and Jubilee had danced to, and everything else he’s miss if they didn’t make it out alive.
The visions became more frightening, everything she wanted to do to him and to the others growing more and more pronounced. She was clearly fighting back. This wouldn’t be enough. As he shoved her thoughts closer and closer to their source, he realized that even love wouldn’t be enough. He had to rely on another weapon she didn’t have.
He thought about Charles Xavier’s emotionless stare through even the most traumatic of events; reading about the conference on sentinels in the newspaper; not having a choice as to whether or not he went to Logan’s school; knowing that he was a failure in nearly everyone’s eyes but especially his own; realizing that the woman he was fighting could go through all of that and barely bat an eyelash. Not only was she unable to love, she was unable to hate; and hate was something Quentin had far too much of.
There it was, cloistered in dust and smoke, the core of her mind. It was acrid, acidic and burning as though it was on fire. Luckily, Quentin was used to flame. The violent impulses pushed harder and harder toward Quentin, resisting the urge to be reversed. She wasn’t going to hurt herself. She just wasn’t; and that was alright. He didn’t need her to be hurt. All he needed was for her to not hurt his friends.
The train shattered, caught between the barriers of her mind and the force of Quentin’s telepathic energy, but Quentin didn’t have time for relief. He needed something to replace the thought or else another would come with equal force, if not more. Logan had told him never try to induce another violent construct, to use that particular ability to heal or pleasure, but Quentin didn’t have much of a choice.
The year: 3025. The location: The ruins of what once was London. You’re one of the few survivors. You’ll have to resort to cannibalism and pure berserker combat to make sure you’re not on the menu. All you have at your disposal is a machete and your wits. Apocalypse Survival Construct 2.0: Engage.
He only had to maintain it until Forest and Josh were safe. If she didn’t figure it out, he could body-jump and maintain it from there. He wasn’t even worried about the prospect of her killing his astral form. By then he’d be far away…besides, he’d already died once today. He could handle it again.
Open up, Josh, I’m coming back in.
Forest pulled his knees up and began to sob, feeling lost, confused, hopeless. He didn’t seem to understand what was happening. The past week had felt like one long nightmare, one he had assumed he’d never escape and now…
He looked up only just in time to see Josh slip and fall. He met eyes with Pari and he knew what was next. Josh had become too much of a liability to keep. she had her knife in hand and this wasn’t going to be about torture or pain, it was going to be about pure, cold murder.
And somewhere in the tangled web of trauma and agony, he recalled something. Something important.
Her amulet.
He slid down off the table, shaking from head to toe, but quickly he forced himself to stop thinking and start running.
She lifted the knife over her head to drive into Josh but suddenly he hit her and the two of them rolled.
There was a cut on her right cheek. Deep. It had stopped bleeding but she had not wiped away what was there and while it was mostly congealed, he was able to reach up, smearing some across his fingertips and smear it across the amulet around her neck.
The blood bubbled and seemed to be absorbed into the purple gem and somewhere, not where they were now but far away, Shatterstar felt Pari’s control over him drain out until it was gone.
The child had roped one wrist and it had brought her out of her stupor, causing her to tug back, though it hardly seemed necessary. She smiled wickedly as he slipped in the blood and she reveled in the cracking sound it made.
The knife Pari had held was dropped in the confusion and she reclaimed it, kneeling next to the stunned Josh. She gave him what almost passed for a sympathetic look, then raised the knife over her head to run him through.
Then, Forest hit her. For some reason she'd assumed him useless in this fight. Maybe because she had broken him...? Or maybe not.
They rolled and he was on top of her and she started to reach to strangle him but something in her head stopped her.
That was all the time Forest needed to take the blood from her face and touch the amulet.
Pari shrieked and sat up.
"MY TOY!" she screeched, "MY PRECIOUS TOY WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!"
Forest tried to run away, towards Josh, but she grabbed him with her magic powers and threw him into the wall, which exploded inward with a spray of dust and debris. He doubled over and pressed himself against the rubble as she came towards him.
But then, that feeling in his brain came back and she fell to her knees, clutching her head. "GET OUT!" she screamed, "GET OUT OF MY HEAD!"
The sensations were strange and full body. They effected her chest and her stomach and made her feel inflated and light, then heavy and ill. She could barely stand it.
Then, all at once, she thought she was somewhere she wasn't. Someone she wasn't. But she knew this to be false and still the illusion persisted.
Feeling vulnerable and as a last ditch effort, she magically teleported herself far away, to deal with the effects of such magic without the threat of enemy harm.

"You know I like strong women who know what they want. You? You’re just a pushy little bitch." He watched the energy form around them and smirked when she mentioned Forest. "Stupid too I see."
When they arrived Josh lunged in her direction, bypassing her to get to Forest while she was startled. He made sure to keep his back to her, make himself a target, while he was healing the younger boy.
"Hey buddy." He murmured placing his hands to Forest’s face, "The cavalry’s arrived." His hand glowed gold as he healed his friend, flesh knitting back together seamlessly without a scar, bones re-aligning and growing stronger, and his strength returning to him.
Quentin? You got enough strength to transfer to her when she attacks me?
If Quentin had eyes in this form, they would have popped open at the mention of his name. Through Josh’s eyes, he could see Forest, weak but very much alive. The sight gave him strength. He could do this. Something had opened up inside of him and despite his incorporate form, he felt stronger than ever.
Pari’s mind spread out before him, deep and dark like a vast tunnel through a mountain prone to rock slides. But he had light. He was light, and he had a reason to be strong. This was what the Phoenix was looking for when it came to him at the age of sixteen. He could do this. He could do this.
You’re going down, lady.
He entered the tunnel, trying to take up as much space as possible. Further and further, closer to the center of her consciousness. He knew he wasn’t safe here. A house of horrors couldn’t compare to the sadism that filled this woman’s mind. She pushed back against him, sharp as knives yet full of bliss. How could happiness be so dangerous?
Visions of all the lives and bodies she’d ruined stood before him. It was disgusting, grotesque, even for him. It’s not real, it’s just in her mind, he thought, gliding past the visions, further and further…
There was a train coming. Another violent impulse just waiting to be carried out. It was headed right for him and, by extension, for Josh. He couldn’t wait until he got deeper into her mind. He had do to something. Now. He stretched himself as thin and large as he could, his consciousness taking up the entire opening of the tunnel and holding fast. The train would have to go through him now, and he wasn’t about to let it out.
STOP he cried out with everything he was, pushing the train back as far as he could, refusing to let it exit the tunnel.
Forest felt Josh’s arm slip around and immediately tried to curl into a ball. However, the deep, soothing voice let him know it was not Pari who touched him. He looked at him, weak but alive, broken but mendable.
"J-Josh," was all he managed before clinging to him, sobbing. The pain he’d been submerged in for days now was slowly ebbing and though he did not feel strong, the strength to move was slowly returned to him.
He opened his eyes and looked over Josh’s shoulder and let out a strangled cry, attempting to move backwards. He had assumed if Josh was here, Pari was not and mortal terror filled him at just the sight of her.
His hand fluttered out and he tried to pull Josh back with him, eyes never leaving hers.
"Aww, thank you so much..." she said as she picked up a bloodied butcher's knife, running her finger along the edge lightly. "You fixed my dolly."
She placed the tip of the knife on the makeshift slab, dragging it across the surface menacingly, walking towards them. "It'll be fun making you heal my toys so I can keep playing with them," she smiled.
The knife fell off the edge of the table and she continued to walk towards them.
As Quentin flew through her mind, the scenes therein were not dissimilar to if someone had taken a meat locker, thawed everything in it out, put explosives inside eat wet carcass and let them explode everywhere.
There was no warmth or love or even hate here. There was only adrenaline and vices and evil.
Pari used the distraction of Forest tugging on Josh to start to charge them but something happened. She paused and stumbled, placing a hand to her head.
"What is this?" she growled. "What have you done?"
She tried to lurch forward to strike out at either boy with the knife but she felt blocked... unable to think.
"... You didn't come alone did you?" she said, her innocent facade breaking as he eyes bulged and her face split into a grin.
You Belong To Me - [healingtheassassins] [adreamyoudidntlike] [squirrelthief]
Quentin had forgotten the agony of disintegration. His blood was freezing, turning into tiny blades of ice that shredded his veins up through the skin. Cold air pulsed through him, glacial, his skin, then muscle, then bone cracking like the top layer of a frozen pond, his consciousness splashing out of him in droplets than waves as his body crumbled.
Josh…Joshua…it hurts. Make it stop! His every molecule was screaming, crying out like a child, devolving into nothing.
“I am here my friend. My mind is open to you.”
So much wind. He tried to resist it as pulled himself toward Josh’s consciousness, inviting, warm, pulling him against the cyclone. Still, it was broken too, almost as broken as he was, cracks in the walls so to speak, but at least he was inside. He was safe. They both were. For now.
It was dark, too dark to see anything, as Josh was actively hiding his thoughts from the enemy. Light. Quentin could generate light…but he was too weak. It took all of what little energy he had to let Josh know he was inside.
Can you feel me, Joshua? Kind of drafty in here, huh? It was a weak attempt at a joke. It got harder and harder to communicate, like he was learning to form words all over again. Not unpleasant though. Nice, actually. Winds are warm, like breezes. I was so cold…I just… I’m… tired… so tired…so hungry…
He felt himself losing consciousness. He needed to restore his energy if he was going to be of any use to Forest or Josh. He needed to…to…I have to…I have to sleep now, Joshua. Can’t stay awake here without feeding off your psychic energy. Don’t want to hurt you. Don’t want to lose you…wake me up when the time’s right. Call out for me in your mind and I’ll do what needs to be done…but for now, sleep…goodnight Joshua…and everything was gone.
Shhhh. Shhhhh. Josh tried to send warm comforting thoughts, like blankets and fireplaces and cups of hot chocolate with cinnamon and just a dash of brandy like how Rahne used to make it. ‘You cannae tell Dani I’m giving you this’ in her thick accent.
I’ve got you. I can feel you. You’re safe now. He suppressed a sad smile, now was not the time. Drafty… fragile things tend to crack when you put too much pressure on them. And I’m not… I’ve never been strong. We can talk about it later if you really want to. But for now… Sleep Quentin. I’ll call you when I need you.
Josh heard the whisper in his ear and reacted instinctively, turning and slashing her cheek in a way that made him really glad that none of the students had tried to sneak up on him like that. “Well you should be little girl.” His face was calm and uncaring, like she was barely a fly in his vision. He took a few steps back, his fingers trailing along a gravestone reverently. “Because you’re way out of your league.”
She recoiled, hissing like a snake, hand touching the wound, pulling away. "Hmmm, I can't remember the last time someone else made me bleed," she purred, advancing on him, "And here I thought you were ready to sacrifice yourself for the rodent. Now you're fighting like a cornered mousey."
Both of her hands were glowing a shimmery red color as energy swam around them. Standing there, facing him without fear (was she capable of fear? She may not have been.) she looked like another student at the school. Young and cute and powerful.
She lifted up her perfectly manicured yellow nails and aimed both palms at Josh. "Ready? I think squirrel boy is lonely..."
The red energy encompassed them both and seemed to dissolve the graveyard around them until they were in some kind of basement.
The walls were yellowed but sturdy, faded wallpaper showing an undetermined but old age. The floor was concrete and splattered with blood. There was a plywood table, makeshift, absolutely stained with the stuff, leather straps bolted onto it. There was metal piping with old wire bonds still hanging from it.
Forest lay in the middle of the room, not moving, his back to them. His arm sat awkwardly behind him and he looked like a discarded corpse. Only the faintest rise and fall of his chest betrayed that illusion.
You Belong To Me - [healingtheassassins] [adreamyoudidntlike] [squirrelthief]
He could smell her even before he sensed her signature. Blood. She smelled like blood. Her hatred overwhelmed him within minutes and he found his knees going weak. It wasn’t anger. Just hatred. Anger he could understand, but this blind hatred legitimately frightened him. It was nothing more than hatred for the sake of it, not because she had any reason. Like the humans. Like the perpetrators of Capitalism…only she didn’t even pretend that it was for the common good.
.As he turned around, surprise joined his apprehension. She couldn’t have been much younger than him. What could have possibly made her this way. He couldn’t help but feel curious, but he didn’t have much time. He’d have to act know. The kick wouldn’t be enough. She could well have killed him in earnest before it started to take effect. He needed to escape without arousing suspicion and he had to do it fast.
"Don’t try to stop me," he said, taking a deep breath, "I’ve made my choice."
With that, Quentin leaped from the balcony, pressing the inhaler to his lips and letting the kick into his lungs as he fell.
To me! Josh watched the girl appear from his spot in the graveyard. She seemed so tiny. but then again, so did Laura. To me my X-man. I always wanted to say that. He laughed a little mentally.
He watched Quentin dive off and start to break apart. I am here my friend. My mind is open to you.
He took out his phone and typed in a text.
[text] Now I know it was a fluke little girl.
[text] Too scared to come down and get beaten?
Pari was surprised but gave a small laugh as Quentin dived. "I guess the little shit was serious..." she muttered, walking to the balcony, relishing his expression as he fell and disappeared.
The wind picked up and her hair whipped around and in the moonlight she looked like what she was... a terrible monster, whose depths could never be reached for how cold and truly evil she was.
The text was sent but she didn't look at it, instead her eyes zero'd in on Josh himself, standing in the graveyard near a plot with fresh flowers.
Josh blinked and she was gone, her warm breath on his ear. "Do I look scared to you?" she whispered and without looking he could almost see the slight curl of her lips into a wicked smile.
You Belong To Me - [healingtheassassins] [adreamyoudidntlike] [squirrelthief]
Quentin raised an eyebrow and smirked, nice to know that my gallant sacrifice is little more than porn for a sadist…but at least this way, Forest won’t have to watch me “die.” …I mean, if he even cares about that sort of thing. Secretly, Quentin almost hoped he did.
Anyways, it’s a good plan. There’s an unfamiliar telepathic signature nearing the area but not at close enough range for me to get an accurate read. Anything I should look for to make sure it’s her?
You and me both, my friend. No matter what she does to me you have to remember. It doesn’t hurt. My body stopped feeling pain years ago. It doesn’t matter if she has my intestines wrapped ‘round her shoulders like a boa or my eyeball between her teeth. You must remain calm. And stop her. Ignore what she does to me.
You’re looking for hatred. Anger. I don’t think she’ll show herself to you. You’re looking for it to hover over you. But she’s coming to you. Don’t ham this up. She’ll smell a trap. Like the teachers tell you in grade school. KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid.
Pari appeared just a room away from Quentin, smirking. She thought the school might be hard to get into but it wasn't, at all. She pressed her hands on the door Quentin was behind and it went transparent just for her. She tilted her head at the boy inside.
Maybe she should sneak up behind him and brutally murder him. I bet, even though he was going to kill himself, he'd find himself staring up at her in mortal terror as she hacked his life away piece by piece.
If she was more in touch with true emotions or had them at all, she'd have noticed his posture wasn't suicidal but contemplative. She didn't possess that ability, however and transmuted through the doorway, invisible as she circled the room.
You Belong To Me - [healingtheassassins] [adreamyoudidntlike] [squirrelthief]
When Pari had snatched Forest before without leaving her lair because she had Shatterstar as her senses. This time was more risky. She would have to go in person to where Josh was to bring him back.
Some self righteous healer was not going to insult her raw power, she would see to it. And to top it off, she got a strange psychic transmission from the squirrel boy's emo, melodramatic boyfriend. That might be something worth seeing.
She considered an invisibility spell but she was already feeling invisible in her achievements. Plus she wanted them to see that the big bad killer they were so worked up by was actually a cute, beautiful girl.
"Don't go anywhere," she told the lump on the floor that was the squirrel person, barely breathing -- and certainly not moving -- on the floor. "Momma will be right back."
Pari cast a spell and zapped herself to where she'd pinpointed Quentin to be, prepping for a suicide viewing.
Scott is the best of the Summers brothers, pass it on.
Alex is a neoliberal Uncle Tom and Gabriel is a little emo kid total rival for the Phoenix Force.
Cyclops was right, and even if he wasn’t, he’s still better than Alex and Gabriel.
