@weaver-zâ oh 100% agree with you here. there are so many posts like âYA has excitement and adventure while adult literature is just about men cheating on their wivesâ which like 1) the exact same post has been made over and over again we do not need another one of these and 2) is just blatantly untrue.Â
i also wonder how much of this is about things being incorrectly labelled as YA when theyâre not? i know a lot of female adult sf/f authors have faced this (v.e schwab, naomi novik, alix e. harrow, and erin morgenstern are the first who come to mind), where their fantasy books written for adults with adult characters get incorrectly classified as YA books Because Woman. a lot of adult stories that do have things like excitement and adventure either get ignored or misclassified, and i wonder how much of that contributes to this weird notion that there are no exciting or interesting books for/about adults.Â
also i totally agree with your second response and i think thatâs extra insulting to adult fiction writers who donât fit the mold of being like, cis straight white dudes. being told âyour whole genre is just shitty men cheating on their wivesâ flattens so many diverse stories and experiences in such an insulting way
